Fieros factory equipped with wings used stronger springs to offset the weight of the decklid with wing installed.
Not true, all decklid springs ARE adjustable, its just a PITA to do, if you look inder there there are a few differant sets of holes that the bars can be located in to adjust the tension

1986 was the year that Center High Mounted Stop Lights became mandatory in the US. It seems that all the people who say they have an 85 with one are in Canada, so I wouldn't doubt it went into effect a year earlier there.
Also because of the new suspension on the 88s, the rear vents mount differently and the mounts are not interchageable.
The 84s and some 85s have black trunk carpet. The rest are gray.
Furious, good thread, I went to give you a "+" but you already had one from me.

You're both right.
There were three different hardnesses of decklid torsion bars - one for a bare decklid, one with the luggage rack and one with the wing. The difference can be found in the color of paint used on the end of the bar - blue, white or red (I forget which is which).
However, all of the brackets have multiple holes to further adjust the spring tension.

OK, here's a real minor one. 84 and 85 Fieros (except Indy and GT) had the black and gold front emblem. 86-88 (except GT)used the silver and black. Also, the backer plate on the 84-85 emblem is metal, the plate on the 86-88 is plastic.

Some 86 se models came with the 4cyl and th125 with the dual exhaust, They also had the areo package and ...I believe the 4cyl SE's came with the luggage rack but the 6cyl SE's came with either no spoiler (bare decklid) Or a GT spoiler.
And yes the 86 areo notchbacks came with black ground effects.

I just came across a black 86 SE 4 cylinder in a junkyard this week. Aero package, dual exhaust, automatic, and luggage rack. Unusual, (to me anyway), to see a 4 banger in an aero package car.

Canadian Fiero Sales (or why it's hard to find them here)
For the trivia fans out there, based on total Canadian sales figures, our data books show the rarest options to be:
1984 Fiero Sport model 2PM37 - 9 with AM radio code UL6 1985 GT - 105 with Tan Leather interior code 643 1986 GT - 5 with rear carrier code V58 1987 GT - 12 with Light Saddle Leather interior code 622 1988 GT - 20 in color Bright Yellow code 53.
Total Fiero sales in Canada for all models were approximately 11,000 units in 1984, 7,000 units in 1985, 6,000 units in 1986, 3,000 units in 1987 and a total of 730 units in 1988.
Canada imported 160 Fieros with Y82 indy fiero option in 1984.
In 1988 we imported GT 423, 139 formula models. For GT models I believe the code for gold wheels was 60P and 19P for black, the numbers for those are 96 and 327 respectively,
Color numbers for 88 gt's: 27 in color 16, 100 in 40, 93 in 41, 36 in 77, 147 in 81. And number sold in Canada: GT 423, FORMULA 139, BASIC 4CYL 168.
No t-tops coming to Canada in 1988.
Here's the contact who sent me this information: If you want me to check something on your package call me (George) toll free in Canada at 1-888-467-6853. Vehicle history packages only run $45 Canadian not $75, they include MVMA specs for your model year.

Apparently, the 84 Fiero has internal "clips" where the rest of the model years have "Cloth Hangers" on the ceiling behind the seats.
Don't ask me why I know that !!!
Also, I don't know when it changed, but there are differences in the HEater/Cooling pipes under the rockers. Some have a Y pipe that share the inlets while others have two separate pipes.
Another interesting fact, that has little to do with the Year of production or model as much as it has to do with the worker doing the installation... On the back of the HVAC control, pin "K" if memory serves, it a GREEN wire that controls the electric radiator fan while interfacing it with the Heater controls... In some cars there are ONE and other cars there are TWO. The reality is that there are ALWAYS two, but the installer linked them in either at the HVAC controller (so you see the two wires) or spiced them together further down line (why you see only one). These little "differences" are SOOOO interesting.
Did someone mention the changes in Brakes and Bearings on the 88s?
The lumbar seat was only an option on the 1988 GT (couldn't get it on the Formula or Coupe). Since there were only 6849 GT's the Lumbar is pretty rare. I remember reading somewhere that only about 800 were ever installed. I don't have the exact number handy but my guess is 805. Somebody got a source?
