Songman, interesting swap! What rims did you use... offset, etc. I would like to consider 16's or 17's? I was always impressed with C5 Corvette rims also. Any comments??

Songman, I'm glad you tried it for the rest of us, but I have to agree I think they are too big for a stock GT. I like my wheels to have a little bit of meat on them, and those tires are a little too low in profile for my taste.
In general I would expect that if the rolling diameter is the same that the larger wheel/tire combo should fit with no problem. Your test seems to confirm that.

Actually.. the convertible Mitsubishi is Curley's... He's the one that's spoiled! I just have 7 Fieros, a Corvette, a Ranger pickup, an International pickup, and a Chrysler convertible.... Well, not counting the cars I have back in GA anyway... haha
I'm not sure about the wheel size. I know they are 30 series tires... Curley will show up and have details.
The 19 inch setup is within an inch overall height of my stock 15s. They are a lot wider and as you can tell from the rear shot, most of that is to the inside. I still had tons of room between the wheel/tire and the spring.
I'll call Curley and have him post the tire/wheel specs.

Dale- Very nice! Oh, and the Eclipse Spyder is nice too.....I should get another DSM.
Curly's ride is definately PHAT with the 20/19 combo, and I'm sure a 19/18 would like real nice on a GT as well! I'll probably go 19's all around for my ride this spring.

Dale, I've got to agree with some of the others that said the 19" is too big on a stock GT...a 17-18" would be better. But you have to admit...the chrome wheel really makes your black paint POP! I'll bet I know what you're asking Santa to bring for Christmas...

We all talk about coilovers and such, but personally, I didn't know if you could put wheels that big on stock suspension or not...
So me and ole Curly gave it a try! Don't know about other years but on 88s there is TONS of clearance!
Yeah, I was pretty suprised that 18x9.5's with 265.35.18's fit with stock lowered suspension. They rub on the long trailing arm under hard cornering. They do NOT fit pre-88's, the tire is up against the spring perch before you can even bolt them on.
Happy Thanksgiving all--- Jeremy B.

17/18 with 215/45 front and 245/40 rear is the way to go at least on 88's...
Pre 88's dont look half bad either 17/18 215/45 front, 245/40 rear Great minds think alike. But im going to switch to a 45 in the rear to fill the gap a little.

They look really good on your car Songman. You may have too ask Santa for some bling, bling before the 25th.
I'm glad you demonstrated that 19's will fit on stock suspension. Which btw is good because I have some S.P. springs. The rims would look better and provide (greater)protection if they were 255/35/19's. Although the pic(s) showed that it will fit in the back however, the tire/wheel is intended for the front.
The rear(s) are 20x11 with 3" lip. Tires are 305/25/20. Next time I'm in Bakersfield will see if a 20x11 will fit Songman's Fiero?
P.S. Rubberband tires are just for show and shouldn't be used for daily usage, unless your a bad Gluteous maxs, he,he.
does anyone know the biggest and best w wheel/tire combo for stock 88 suspension for front and back. car is daily driver. so i guess the rubberband wouldn't be good? info is thanked cuz i think some huge rims look awesome

17's on all 4's, 18's on all 4's, or combination of 17/18's,and now proven 18/19's. For 17's on all 4's the tires that I still have are 215/45 and 235/45 on 7.5" rims.....a good combination for a daily driver and for an over-all good look (look at sig) 17's = ruff ride due to the side wall smaller as with the case for 18's using 40 series tires.

Quote: Whats the max width that can fit on pre-88 suspension cars with coil overs? I will probly end up going 17/18, i just needa know width for my 87gt
James Z
My car is a 87GT and the max w/coil-overs are 9 1/2" but on a 19 or 20 inch rim, but you're pushing it with skinny tire though.

Those 19s looks way more better than the stock ones! Not clunky at all. Now with these big rims you need to keep track of the rims/tire weight. If much heavier than stock it will throw your performance down the drain.

It looks like we both have come a long ways since that Dodge Daytona T-Top.
