I, personally, have some rather specific tastes when it comes to the Fiero. I have an 4spd '86 GT which I see as a summer only, go out cruisin' type of car. I would also like to get a 4 cyl, wedge-nosed, auto, notchie for daily, year round driving. A car can be like a suit of clothes. You dress for the occaision. Now, if you have the means and wish to combine the experience I recommend a Formula for that casual, yet sexy/performance enhanced look.

My first Fiero was an 87 SE. I loved it a lot but didn't even know fastbacks existed. Then a friend showed me a fastback in town and I was jealous! So yeah, I like fastbacks better. Also, I always had more problems with the SE's blindspots than with the GT.

i like both designs and one of each is cool!...the notchie has its own unique, stand out character styling but the fastbacks have a more modern, refined look to them, almost a european flavour..
and the mods that can be done to both are just wicked!

I like notchies. The Fastbacks look smaller, and from the side and back look like a firebird that has had its corners slightly rounded. Notchbacks look like a Fiero.

Hadn''t really thought about it that way, maybe, just maybe, "I'm too sexy for my Formula", I think NOT. I still prefer the 88 Forumla to any other Fiero, at least it makes me feels, well you know.
Nothing wrong with GT's, it's kind of like dating, do you want the slim sexy model or the wide version, I prefer the slim ones.

I love BOTH... however i have a preferance to the fastback because of the tail lights and the clear sail windows. HOWEVER i do have a very high DROOL RATE for the CHOPPED notchies!! I have had 3 Fiero's all 85's ironically! One is a fastback! I will never sell her, love the fastback the most id say. SPECIALLY chopped though! So i guess after all this babble I am a fastback guy!

how about fastback on one side and notchie on the other? that way you would have both and wouldnt have to decide. plust it would kinda show the evolution of the car 84-88.
As MinnGreenGT pointed out this subject has been covered many times, but let me ask you this, how many people out there have bought a fastback and then performed a "Notchback conversion"? I thought so, zero. And how much do you think a Notchback clip is worth in the Mall or Ebay? I thought so zero, I have two you can come to my house and pick them up for free.
Plain and simple, the notchback is nice and has it's dedicated followers but the fastback is by far more popular, among Fiero Enthusiasts and the general public.

I like them both, and feel that both have theis places, but i've gotta go with what the fieromaster said, Chopped notchies ahe the ultimate, specifically the stinger. The coupe body and the chop go so well together it should have come that way originally. Fastbacks are great, but they don't seem to have the personailty(?) that the notchbacks have.

I wouldn't kick a fastback out of bed if it followed me home. but I only own notchies (read my Sig). One of these years my 88 Coupe may have a 4.9 and a fastback clip though.

Good thread so far. I've owned 3 notchbacks and 2 fastbacks. 2 of my notchbacks were coupes, they were alright. My fastbacks definitly turned heads, nobody knew what they were. My 85GT seems to have a muscular stance to it. I have 17s on it, and it just looks evil, something my fastbacks never looked.
So I would say I like notchbacks with aero packages best, followed by fastbacks and then coupes.
If a fastback has a choptop, its a whole different ballgame!

As far a notchbacks, I like them with either the aero nose, or the 87-88 nose. Either way its gotta be a six for me.....and no bumper pads like 84.
Basically either one is a Fiero, and thats what matters to me!

Yeah, but the notchbacks are still better.

*************************************************************************** It's a bit silly to argue what's more popular when the majority of owners on here have coupes, SE's, or formulas. The GT's were much more expensive when new and ran like 20-30% more in the price so there's bound to be less out on the road today from sheer numbers alone. Other than that, this sounds like a Pissin Contest. *****************************************************************************
I am partial to the notchbacks, but the Gt definately has its advantages also. All in all, notchies for me.... JUST WANT ONE THAT RUNS RIGHT!
