Bubbajoexxx, that digital dash looks great. How much of it did you need to modify to make it fit? Would you be williing to post a wire diagram on how to hook one up?

BubbaJoe how did you get the tach to work with a V8. I had the whole dash working but could not get the Tach to read correctly. Help Please!!! I would really like to put this Digital dash back in the 4.9 Formula.

I did my digital dash a couple of years ago with intelletronics/ cyberdyne gauges from JC Whitney and Summit racing. It was really easy to interface the speedometer to the 3800pcm. When I get the battery remounted i'll take some pics. total cost for the dash was around $400.00.
this is what i am usin, can backlight any color you want to, and the displays are less than 1/4inch thick.
the drawback, you gotta hide this beast of electronics in youre dash somewhere lol

I've found a couple of these at the jkyrd, doesn't this cluster still use the data line from the ecm to get most of it's signals? Or are you using an newere engine and computer?

yes i believe this cluster uses the dataline, but i dont think it uses it for everything. theres about 20 wires goin into this cluster, granted some for turn signals and idiot lights, i do not yet have the schematics or pin-outs for this so i am not %100 sure. I have just been messin with this since this morning. I am HOPING that its using a code like the 90 regal this came from, but i wont know till i can get it together and put a scope on it. I do have the 90 regals ecm so i at least can dummy up something for testing purposes. If the 2000 3800 isnt using the same signals as the 90, then i will duplicate whats needed with some simple electronics. This will be even easier if i end up using an OBD1 computer to run this thing. But the way things are leaning with this project, i may opt for the haltech for tuneability. I am eying the ZZperformance intercooler and the haltech might be a neato way to go. But it will mean developing a standalone system to drive the displays....UGH, so much to do, this things never gonna get done lol

ACK HELP... I remember seeing a digital dash at Carlisle Y2k... it was like 1400 BUT was AMAZING! You could configure ALL your gauges AND all the buttons were configured in the stock location of trunk release n such. Had confirm and cancel so you didnt accidently push em. Anyone remember these or have a site link. I WAS linked recently BUT computer crashed and dont have link anymore

Let me know what you figure out....I'm still interested in using the Cimmerron cluster which operates on the same principal, but I want it to work with the stock 2.8 ecu but have no idea how to do this.

Ambulance_dude >> one suggestion, you may want to keep the 'cool' tube for the back lighting - it will make things a bit easier.
Since people have been showing what they have/etc - thought I would show one that I started some time ago, but has been put on hold for other projects. What you see is just a proto layout - there still needs to be some repositioning of the displays (namely the oil/temp/bat guages - they need to move up a bit so that the board will fit inside of the housing). I also had planned on cutting out the 'clear' areas of the front plastic so the guages faces are not covered up. Anyways enjoy the pictures
Mickey love that display! Kinda what i was goin for with mine. Tho the volts amps temp section is goin where the power window switches are and the empty space in the dash will have some "other" digital stuff in its place.
i am still using the tubes, but i will be using shorter ones in place of the one big one that was in there. Its wayy to long and it would need to be in two different spots at the same time lol

That would be the dash out of a 3rd gen Trans Am GTA. And I was just about to ask if anyone had tried to use one of those. I like the look of that dash!
Are you going to try to use the Driver Information Center?
[This message has been edited by Formula88 (edited 03-20-2004).]
Dash is from a 3rd gen GTA - to be specific, it is a US dash from a V8 car. The printed lettering for the oil/temp guages are metric are the Canadian guages - which for some odd reason would have costed me a fair bit more money to get the Canadian set - however the speedo will display both kph and mph as it is electronically switched. I haven't looked much into the tach to convert it to V6 (or 4 cyl). I do know that GM did make/or plan a V6 version of the tach as it is marked on my diagram.
Other than dealing with the tach the guages are a direct connect to the Fiero harness. Each display has it's own circuit board which is nice. I originally was planning on having the tach on the left, but due to the oil diplay board's length it had to go on the left so that it would fit inside the housing.
The Fiero's odometer was going to be used as the T/A one is another separate display, and I wanted all the engine displays behind the wheel. Was just going to fit it into the display in the stock location, or if it would not fit, below the oil or tach displays.
The driver's info center (DIC) was not going to be used as it just display's 'minor' info (door open, trunk open, washer fluid low, coolant level, etc) - but it probably would fit where the aux guages are. It is a stand alone unit, although it is included in the T/A's dash, it is not connected to the other displays except for the 'dimmer' input.
Basically all I have used so far: Fiero guage housing outer shell, T/A's displays, clear plexi painted black on the backside and some wiring that has been soldered to the display board connectors.
What needs to be done: install metric push switch, modify and install Fiero odometer, cut up T/A dash to use it's display mounting and backlighting. I may have to opt for using a cool tube for the back lighting - thanks to Ambulance_dude for showing me his dash to give me an alternative. The T/A's dash uses the typical GM 168 bulbs for the back lighting (one for each display, and has a light shield for each display as well so the light does not bleed to other parts of the dash). I also want to cut a final front panel out of black plexi. I will have to layout it out in a CAD program or something and see if I can find someone to cut it out for me as I don't cut so straight. It all then needs to be put together and the wiring spliced into the Fiero harness. I will probably install some sort of connector so that it can be removed from the car. I also want to look into the missing segments on the oil and temp guages and see if I can fix them.
My display will probably have to wait for a bit till I get some other things out of the way, but I just wanted to show people of another alternative that I have not yet seen
Tim

Since everyone is look for digital dash ideas, here is one I took out of a 87 Park Avenue and put in my friend's 87 Buick Regal Turbo-T, to replace his stock atari-like digital dash that flashed at 85mph.
This digital dash should fit in a Fiero and it does have readouts for tach, oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temp. You do have to cycle thru them tho which means you cannot watch them all at the same time. The speedo will read up to 199mph and everything can be switched from metric to SAE at the push of a button. The fuel level gauge interfaces with standard GM fuel senders and the speedo works off of 4000ppm input. The tachs are calibrated for 6cyl engines and hook directly to the distributor/coil/module etc. This particular version has a gear position indicator but some of the early Summersets did come with this cluster but without the gear pos indicator. The gear position indicator interfaces directly to the gear postion switch that can be mounted on a 440T4, 4T60-E, 4T65-E, etc. You could probably get it to work on a 125-C if you wanted to.
Mickey, heres the tube from my display, its long, prolly too long for the fiero dash in the fieros config. But do a search on the net, you can get em in all sorts of sizes. I believe skitime uses them in his car for several things.
