Umm shall we compare posts #'s versus time? LOL Quick question. What size can of POR 15 did you get and how much did it cover? I intend on doing more than just my cradle is why I ask. HIOSILVER

I got a quart and it covered both cradles with plenty to spare.

Well, designed the cooling and fuel system and ordered all the AN fittings and braided hoses...Ouch.. but worth the cost...Received wiring harness from Darrell Morse (Thanks man!) and modified.
Wiring harness from Darrell
Elvira lending a hand.
The extra wire
Finished harness.

Finally decided on a location for my torque strut. It took some work because the holes in the strut are way too big for the mounting bolts. I had to make aluminum spacers in both 1/2" and 3/8" to insert into the torque strut holes to eliminate any slop. I then bolted it to the head and the lower tie rod mounting point. Nice sturdy bracket with factory welds I'm pretty much at a stand still cause of the weather. Sub zero temps aren't condusive to painting. But there is a glimmer of hope soon. Supposed to be in the 40's next week...woohoo!
Hey nice job so far. I've been keeping up with this install because it is going to be so clean.
If I may make a suggestion, that strut bar is not going to be very effective right there. On my V8 I tried it, and then found a better spot. Get a welder to fabricate a small oval plate that shapes around two of the adapter plate bolts. Almost like a boomerang but not as angled. On this plate have him weld a large grade 8 bolt pointing outward to the driver side wheelwell and slip the strut onto that. Then put a nut and washer on it and you are done. Thus so, you will have invented your own strut bracket. Make sure the strut bushing diameter is exactly that of the bolt before you weld it in. I will try to e-mail you some pics of mine. The strut positioning without the angle seemed to give it alot more stability -vs- when it was at the angled position off of the engine head.

Thanks for the input. Originally, I was going to make a bracket and weld it to the cradle. I decided to try this instead. I'm mounting it with hardened bolts and preloading the bar. Did you put bushings in your rod? Or did you just take up the slack and bolt it down? The torque strut I got had about a 3/4" hole so I had to machine bushings to take the slop out of the hemi joints.

I did not use any bushings. I just tightened it against the small ball joint. I wanted to put bushings in it but would have had to sacrifice the size of the bolt to compensate for a bushing install. Make sense ? I hope the ball joint holds up but it looked high quality to me.

Sorry, been sick the last couple of days from this great sub zero weather so no progress on the car I'm, however, feeling better and the temps are supposed to rise a little (like to at least the 30's) so I'll be back out there soon. On a good note I finally ordered my air cleaner. Holly Hi Tek low profile sidedraft air cleaner...Pics to come...

Well feeling like myself again! We've decided to cruise to Fiero's at Daytona this year so no progress here for a couple of weeks or so. Just got the Formula out to get her ready for the trip. Told Elvira she'll have to drag me back kickin' and screamin' (damn colds getting to me) I'll post when we return.

Hey Russ!
The headers are coated and the wires are high temp. I loomed them so they can't move to touch the headers. I'll be around here for the next couple of weeks working on both GT's. Might take a day or two with the Indy to see if it would be faster to get road worthy to bring to Carlisle. It would be trailered but driven around town for the 3 days there. Can't just fill up on 105 at the local rest stop ya know!

Finally got around to washing the engine compartment (its finally above 50...woohooo) and Elvira was kind enought to coat it with POR-15. I cut out and installed the Thermotec insulation on the firewal. Tomorrow its the trunk side.
Some pics...
A little spray
and scrub
Elvira's touch with the POR-15
and finally the Thermotec insulation.
Motor to get installed in the next couple of days...

wow i just noticed, your third break light is aftermarket?
Yes it is. The roll bar was designed for an 84 which didn't have the third brake light. I couldn't fit the stock one so I found the LED strip on the net. Gives it a more modern look as well.
