After the great time we had on the Cambria trip, graciously organized by our good friend Songman, I have decided to try my hand at hosting a Fiero get-together/tour. Plans are quite tenative at the moment, but will be including a run down Highway 25 http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway25.htm (named by Car and Driver magazine as one of the best roads in the U.S.) and back up to Pacific Grove (America's Hometown.) Host lodging arrangements will be made with an eye to affordability. The next day will be open for sightseeing in PG, Carmel, Monterey and the area. Trust me, there is so much to do around this area, if you are bored, you ain't tryin too hard.

I'm very excited about this run. Hopefully the turnout will be respectable, but no doubt that fun will be had by all. If someone would volunteer to host an informational webpage about this event, I would be extremely greatful. Keep your eyes open for more info!

p.s. - try not to make it too close to the Sears Point classic car race event, which usually falls on the first weekend in June. That's a big event, and we normally get 15-25 cars.

If I'm correct, "too close" would be the same weekend, wouldn't it? Or is there a prescribed recovery time required between events? I'm actually looking at early May. I do appreciate comments that will help me schedule. Keep them coming.

I'd say around a month would be good, so early May shouldn't hurt.

Sounds like another great Fiero run. Count me in.

People from Oregon are invited as well. Just don't be mad if we run out of peel and eat shrimp.

Infineon/Sears Point is June 5 and 6. Exact date for us to be determined.

Count on Jen and I to be there That should give us plenty of time to paint the car.

I think this is one event that I will try and make. I am usually busy with Little League or Boy Scouts, but I think I would like to make it an event for myself and my son so we can drive both our cars down there.

It's good to see that people coming that don't always get out to different events. This will make for a great day, and there is plenty to do around here if you want to make a weekend of it. Sure, it's going to be great fun for the drivers, but there is enough to keep the co-pilots entertained as well.

I encourage everyone to come out. I think this weekend will be one to remember.

How and where will we meet-up to start the drive?
From my area it's a 3 hour drive to get to Coalinga
and about another 30 miles to the start of hwy 25.

I'm told the The Ranch Kitchen is a great place to eat but may be crowded.

Likely the rallying point will be in San Juan Bautista. That's somewhat midpoint between I-5 and 101. Anyone who might come out Friday evening can stay overnight wherever we can arrange some affordable accomadations. I have looked at Asilomar, and it is absolutely breathtaking out there (it's actually a CA state park) but it's a bit pricy for some at $135 a night for a double. I can probably find more affordable lodging closer in to San Juan Bautista. What do y'all think?

Y'all might want to make a week out of it...

I need some input on lodging. Would y'all prefer a hotel close to the major freeways like 101 and I5 for easy in and out, or would you rather have something more scenic and off the beaten path? So far the best deal is 2 bedroom suites at Residence Inn in Salinas for $150, sleeps up to six if 2 are willing to go on a sofabed...
Or would you rather find your own lodging? If anyone is willing to work on checking prices over the net, I would be obliged.

I'm not sure how important it would be to make arrangements for a hotel near San Juan Bautista, unless someone was coming from a long distance, and intended to arrive friday night. I would imagine most of us will get there Saturday morning. The few, if any, that would arrive friday could make their own choice. Maybe we can just post a list of possibilites near the starting point.

For us, we would definitely have to have a hotel. It's a 4+ hour drive for us to get there and I am assuming that the run will be starting around 8AM. And I am sure we would stay Saturday night as well because I wouldn't want to drive home after a full day of driving. Kick out any ideas that you have that are convenient to the run.

Hey, any day I get to go on a Fiero run is good with me! May 1st is no problem.

Also, you should add the beaches to you list! Any beach from Santa Cruz to Monterey is beautiful, provided the weather is nice, which it should be in early May. Just keep your eye on the waves, we get stories in the paper all the time about people who haven't been to the ocean much or ever who end up drowning. Definately don't want any of that!

Need accommodations more around $60 per night and a parking lot to hang out in.
