It actually is possible to dye carpets. Use an interior dye from SEM (go to your local autobody supply store to get it). Be prepared to spend a LOT of time -- paint must be sprayed into carpet and then "scrubbed" into the carpet, otherwise, the paint will just sit on top of the carpet and the real color will show through after a time.
Note that the carpet you will get from them will not be exactly like the factory OEM Fiero carpet -- it will not be the same style ( the "looped" material -- theirs will be more like a cut pile carpet like most other auto carpet), but it will be a formed piece of material that will conform to the chassis just like stock.
Boy I have to take remeadial reading lessons - I could have sworn that you asked about trunk carpet. For the interior easiest way is to just get a new carpet. I have found this place to offer the best prices on new ACC carpets http://www.1aauto.com/

The Fiero Store carpet is identical to the ACC. In fact they order it from ACC and drop ship it from the ACC factory. I know, I bought the black carpet from the Fiero Store.
actually i have used the rattle can black fabric paint and my car is a daily driver, and im hard on the carpet,(Work boots, no floor matts ect..) and its holding up fairly good, what i did is took out the seats and went to the car wash and power washed them then got them good and clean, YES i left the carpet IN the car, i just took out the pass seat, and un bolted the drivers seat and took it out at the car wash then drove it home full of water and sucked it out with the shop vac. it worked real good, then i just sprayed away after it was dry, i have minimal wear on it right now but its nothing to get out the can and touvh it up, i think i used 4 cans? so for the $20 invested ya cant relly beat it i did it over a year ago and it still looks great, id post a pic but my camera is not working at the moment

I bought some black carpet from homedepot and placed them right on top of the stock ones and shuve the ends under the trim. For the curved area, i disected the carpet to shape, stitiched it a lilttle and used stips of carpet glues applied with a hot iron.

VHT makes a carpet and vynal DYE in a rattle can. I just used this stuff to spray my dash and stuff and works great. Drys quickly too. I'm tempted to use it on the carpet because it says it will bring out the color in the fiber. As long as the carpet doesn't have "play/movement". If and when i do try it, i'll tell ya the results

Jeesh, its not hard to remove the carpets for cryin' out loud... i took mine out and scrubbed them with Simple Green, and Hot water with Tide and Oxy clean after pre-treating them with GOOP and Spray n' Wash. they were filthy. If I'd thought of it, Id've tossed them in the truck and used the car wash pressurized spray too, but they are now pretty clean and smell good too. That's a lot if you knew how they were. the factory carpets are really durable! I'd turn them inside out and use Molecubond to spray 'em black since I read some good reviews of the product. It looks like similar 'penetrating' dyes are coming out, but Black goes with everything. On my 85 I left them stock. On the next one however...

We spray dyed the greyish looking carpet in Jane's 84 a couple of year's ago. Unexpected results. It came out nice & black, but soon turned to a sharp salt & pepper look, even tho the car isn't really driven a lot. I think the unforgiving West Texas sun did it. I like it. Did the door carpet too.
You should check out JCWhitney; you can probably get new carpet for less than $100. When you figure out your time and the cost of the dyes, etc. maybe it would work out better for you ..

That's the second time I have seen this posted this week.. I just pulled stock black trunk carpet out of my 85 coupe and gave to Rickady this afternoon. I have seen black trunk carpet in lots of 85s. Is it possible that there are that many people changing trunk carpet or is this possibly another Fiero myth. I'm not being a smartass, I am honestly asking because I have seen quite a number of 85s with black trunk carpeting.
I had Gray carpet in my 87 now I have black. How did I do it? Rite Dye from local grocery store, 50 gallon container, soak over night take out and air dry. I did this 4 years ago and still have not had a problem. Cost under 10 dollars.

Okay here is a good way. My friend has a 92 Camarro that had grey carpet. He pulled the carpet out and made a mxture of ritz die and water and sprayed it with a paint gun he then let it dry and installed it. You could not tell that it wasnt made Black. Looked like factory and cost next to nothing.
Of course you need to have a paint gun and air compressor to do this but this is the BEST WAY and it wont smell like spay paint.
I used Glossy Black spray paint from Home Depo (the cheep stuff $1.99 a can).I was going to replace the carpet, but I decided to spray a small area, it looks real good, just like new.Nylon carpet will not absorb dye and will make one big mess if you get the dye wet (in the rain).Black covers well,I dont know how well, other colors will cover up stains.

I can be cheep, but I haven't yet spray painted my mostly bald head, cause it just won't look quite right or last long. I redid my my dash etc from brown to black/red with spray cans and got new carpet from the Fierostore and it looks great. Tried the cheep-out way with other cars and never look good or lasted, buy new carpets.
