Hey datacop,

for sanding purposes (wet sanding, etc.) what kind of sandpaper did you use?

Also whats that tool you were using in the first pic? Thanks.

I don't know what sandpaper was used on the power wheel, I would recommend using a product that 3M makes that resembles a round scotchbrite pad that mounts on a drill. They sell 'em at http://www.autobodytoolmart.com pretty cheap.

EMFORCE,

I refinished these last month. Originally, I had intended to paint these black and sell them but got an idea. I used 320 grit sandpaper to completely remove the old paint, then 400 to smooth it out. After that it was primed and wet sanded with 600 grit then I painted it.

You can decide if you like them for yourself. I have this set as well as my gloss black vents in case I want to change the look of the car. I can't decide which I like better either. If you are going to be in the Des Moines area send me a pm if you would like to see it in person.

I guess I was lucky. I just sanded them a little to give the paint something to bite into. I used Rustoleum brand better quality spray paint in semi gloss black and they came out great!

Heck, you guys stripped 'em first? All I did was disassemble mine, wash them in soapy water, dry, mask, and paint.

Krylon BBQ paint. They look very good. Of course my car stays in the garage 90% of the time....

Was the original color black semi-gloss? I thought that brushed aluminum with clearcoat would look really good. Anybody got pictures of that? Ok, I'll beg...Pleeeze!?!?!

He probably did it on a mig welder with the gas turned way up to keep the air away long enough for the metal to cool past the flash point. I wonder how they'd look stripped, polished, and clearcoated?

Not fair!! I am doing this right now, and wanted to show the finished job on PFF!!!! I am assessing the possibility of getting them chromed, but am not sure if that is possible. However, a Stainless steel fabricator says he can make reproductions for me...but I am scared what the price will be!!
