Some have asked what a west Texas cruise might have to offer. A preview.

Local flora/fauna:

a curve or two.

You can almost make out the DPS trooper at the end of that straight. What you need to do is run a radio car out ahead to make sure it's clear, then the car behind can do a max speed run. If another car shows up just use the radio to shut down the run, that makes it safe for everyone including others sharing the road.

O.K. you all. Caravan from North Texas area sounds like fun to me too.

So, I leave Northeast Mall in Hurst, Tex. @ 0900, Oct. 8. Travel I-20 approx. 110 miles to Cisco then South on Hwy 81 approx. 93 miles(lunch at Brownwood) to Brady. Arrive Brady a bit before approx. 2:00 pm.

Anyone want to join? If so, When? Where?

Brady to San Angelo approx 79 miles via Hwy 87.

John-not far after turning off 71 onto 87, there is a walmart on the right side of the rd. That parking lot may be a good place to meet up with the Austin folks.

To all: I've driven that route a lot. Here are the usual speed traps I remember:
Bee Cave(County)
Llano (city PD)
Potonoc (TexDPS)
Brady (city PD) ALWAYS!
Hiway 87 near Wall, which is roughly 16 miles from San Angelo. (TexDPS)

Greetings,

It makes good sense to have two caravans. One from San Antonio and one from the North.

The AAFO, (S/A group) is not going the route that takes us through Brady. We will take the Sonra route and hook up with y'all in San Angelo, at the Confort Inn.

John and Ken, I trust you will keep an eye on Revin, so we don't have to take extra $$$ in order to bail him out for 120 mph in a 70 mph. If y'all can't keep him in line, I am sure Heidi and Galia can!

I'm still waiting for any response.

Route is very open for us.

All I think is that we should meet in Brady around 2 p.m. Route from there is very open.

Now, who in the North Texas area would like to caravan to Brady and what route???????

My "cupholder" has no preferences! So any DAY or any TIME is o.k. with us!

We need to get Revin to bring his trailer. Only this time the trailer needs to be pulled by his Fiero and have a full load of bricks on it! Hopefully that could keep him under a hundred.

Greetings

Austin AAFO group, Ken please get with Kevin and arrange a meet time and place to hook up with John & Galia. There may be others out there in Pennock Land that would like to caravan with you guys from Austin.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to hook up with us, AAFO, (San Antonio), right outside Boerne, Texas on IH-10 West. See my previous post.

I have only received 5 "official" registrations to date. All you have to do is tell me what size shirt(s) you want and pay $10 either now or later. Additional shirts are also $10 each. Also, I have a new email address - chodges@cfogi.org - send an email or a PM and I'll give you the address to mail the ten bucks.

The money is not as important as knowing what size shirts you want and how many. We need to know ASAP so we can get 'em made by October 9.

Even the other event organizers have not made their registrations official. Yep, you gotta ante-up too!

My posted schedule has us arriving San Angelo approx 4 p.m. That is an afternoon road trip (and a "morning" road trip). No matter what time we leave, it is about 6 hours on the road - 4 if we drive like Loyde, hehehe!

Steve, I'm real sorry to hear about the difficulties your Mom is having. Give her a hug for me.

Now, the my registration list includes the following people. If you intend to be there, get on this list by sending me your name and the size shirt(s) you need.

Chuck Hodges
Mike Parker
Lonzo Sharp
Doug Goldsby
Ken & Heidi Thomas
Kevin Rodgers
Amanda & Hywel Wilson

I have been told a lot more are coming, but they have not contacted me with their shirt size and to tell me when they will pay their $10 registration. We will soon have to set a deadline for getting shirts made in time. At this rate, it appears a bunch of them won't get theirs until after the event.

Couple of additions to the list. I'm betting most people will just show up unannounced, as usual. But that's okay, I'm just happy so many are willing to drive out to West Texas to visit Jane & Don.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say they're coming to visit us, Chuck but glad to see em coming anyway. I have printed up some flyers and am spreadinng them around town.
I want one (1) extra large t shirt please. If someone could, print out & bring some CFOG-I membership forms. They don't print right when I print them. A lot of ascii.
Hope this is printable.

A bump and a not so nice turn of events. The owner of the San Angelo Dragway, Joe Pierce, has informed me tonite that he has decided not to open for a test & tune that Saturday night. The reason given was a drop in the number of both spectators and racers when they added an extra test & tune weekend back in August. It just wasn't profitable considering the cost of track operations, employees, ambulance and fire personell, and insurance. It's a little late in the game to reschedule our get together for the following Saturday, Oct 16.
Friday, Oct 15, is a regularly scheduled test & tune night. He did offer to open for 4 hrs, Oct 9, if we could fund a night of private racing at a cost of $1800. I don't have a clue what CFOG-I's stance is on it, but I'm guessing that figure is a bit rich for our blood-so to speak. Told him I would get back with him, but barring any input from the organization, I guess the dragstrip is out. Sorry folks. Did the best I could with it.

If those who are planning to attend want, I will see if rescheduling for Oct 15-16, with racing on Fri night, will cause any problems at O'Rielly's and reservations at Comfort Inn. I am guessing most folks already have made arrangements for time off from work tho. I'll let you know tomorrow what I find out from O'Rielly's & Comfort Inn, but unless you all want to reschedule, it's still on for Oct 9th-without the dragstrip.

I was about to guess 3XL so he could get it over his head. You might want to think about that yourself, after getting 2nd at the open car show at Rolling Oaks. Oh, congratulations, btw!

Just a bump and a few notes. If you are coming in from the North from Abilene to San Angelo on Hiway 277, there is only one gas station open 24 hrs. That, is in the town of Bronte, about 65 miles south of Abilene. Believe me when I say there is nothing but the wind out on that hiway. Same goes for the stretch of road between Llano & Brady if you chose to go that way.
Weather has been rainy this week, but is partly cloudy presently. Temps are forecast to be in the upper 40's next Wednesday morning, with a gradual warming trend going into the weekend. Again, I caution all to watch your speed on US 87, 20 miles southeast of San Angelo. DPS sits around the town of Wall all the time. Got caught there once myself. I will have a few small signs up along the route leading to the Comfort Inn at critical exits. Watch for the Pegasus and follow the arrows.

AFTER 6 ???? You won't get there until a bit after 11:00 p.m. from Princeton, I bet, hehehehe

I'll be leaving Hurst, Texas Friday about 0900. It will take me about 5 1/2 hours of driving, I think.
