I believe:

The grey cars above would supposedly have been the equivalent of a coupe and a Formula.
The red car is called a Fiero GTA.

I don't know if they were all planned to be released in the same model year. Anyone??

Normally, the special edition / high perf version is released later (e.g. Beetle convertible, Pt Cruiser turbo, PT Convertible, etc.) Of course the original Fiero GT wasnt released until the second Fiero model year either.

According to GM, only the 89/90 (the red GT) remains. The reset have been destroyed. It lives on in their private garage in Michigan.

Actually the red car was called a Fiero but badged as a Trans Am. Now that said, there are 2 ways of thinking about this.

#1: Did GM badge it as a Trans Am to throw off the spy photo hunters? Names on cars mean nothing until they reach production. (Spy photo hunters were thrown off when some of the early Fiero prototypes wore Subaru badges ...)
#2: Was the Fiero to replace the now-gone Trans Am? Note the 3rd generation dash pod .... Who knows?

All were due to come out at the same model year introduction.

Not sure what the offset would do to you, though, since the 90 proto has much wider fenders. Those wheels would probably stick WAY out - looking like some Mexican low-rider with rubber 2" outside the fenderwells.

'88-'92 Trans Am 16x8" (5x4.75")

Another option would be to go with OEM FWD wheels:
'89-'86 Grand Prix 16x8" (5x115)

'93-'99 Bonneville 16x7" (5x115)

You'd probably only be able to use the F-body wheels with either a modded suspension, IMSA wide body, or fender flares. The Bonneville and Grand Prix wheels are very similar, but don't have the deep dish offset. Of course, that deep offset is what really made the wheels stand out. Otherwise they look like 16" versions of stock Fiero wheels.

my 91GTP came stock with the grey honeycomb wheels, they are 16x8's
