I thought I would move this to its own thread Archie to gt some more comments on it. I spent a couple of hours tonight doing the back version. It is not perfect as to what I envisage but gives a pretty close idea. The body would wrap through the console and some of the body would wrap inside the doors too to get the desired effect. I have a roof idea in mind that would work but wont go into that here. The windshield on pic 3 is a little off but good enough for the concept.

So what do you guys think of the concept?

I've always liked those kits, and with a speedster like that I would definitly consider buying one. One good thing about this car- nobody would know what the heck it is, it would draw attention like crazy. Wether thats good or bad I don't know

Well, provided you don't charge me too much for the design work, We've already decided we're gonna build it.

As I said in the other thread, We've been discussing building a Finale Roadster & considering the free design work, what better time to do it than now.

We have the donor car & plan to start stripping it down tomorrow.

Glad you like it Archie. FREE? hehe kidding. Yes it is a free design. Just some recognition is all I ask.
Although you could get me a plane ticket and I could come over for a week and help build the clip

Madcurl I will see what pics I have to do the one you want. Might take me a few days though. On photoshop burnout at present.

You did an awesome job based on that before pic. The only thing I'm not a big fan of is the indent on the bottom front of the door. Is that a small vent, or is it for clearance issues when opening/closing the door? Its difficult to tell. Also, the black continuum of the taillights into the triangular design looks awkward. Maybe I'm just weird lol. I want to play with the photoshopped version later if thats okay with you Aus?

Oh I also like the brushed aluminum style door handles you added. Nice touch.

I just played around with it for a while:

I changed the things that bothered me, and extended the front/rear fascia's down, while bringing the sides out instead of having them receed under the body... extended the nice body line from the side scoop over the wheel. Also added some AMG wheels for the hell of it.

I just like throwing out some ideas... unfortunately its not a very clean p/s that I did.

Well your PS work on the profile of the Yellow Finale is the inspiration that has me agreeing with my guys that I should build a Finale roadster. I wish I could do that kind of work in PS, it sure would make it a lot less likely that I'll build an ugly car. I'm sure the actual build will have it's own character but that will be inspired by what your skills with PS have shown us.

Do I smell a build up thread??

I would suggest kind of more like a luxury roadster feeling. A metallic Polo Green like whats on 93 Cadillac Allantes with a cream colored full leather interior, that taillight masking a piece of brushed aluminum or just a metallic silver, some tasteful 17in chrome rims and a nice powerful but smooth (full roller motor possibly) fuel injected V8 dressed with a little chrome and body color accents, just enough to make it look like it rolled off the line of the most expensive car maker on the planet, and yet its a pontiac

thats just me though

Well, the build has started already.

The question now is, should I start a new thread on the build-up & let this thread live on as an "Idea" thread? or Should we use this as the build up thread?

Also We need a name for this car, suggestions are welcome.

I've already taken 10 pictures of the donor car & it's recovery from the Field of Dreams. So I'll start posting them tonight.

How about the 'Finis' (pronounced "fin-EE'?

Seemed apropos with 'Finale' and 'Fino', for some reason.

much better. Please change the front and rear lower lips. Please make them go down straight instead of curving around the lower front & rear tires. And give the lower part in front of the rear wheels a flare, back of the rear wheel, and in front and behind of the front wheel.

If you use this thread, we know where the idea started, and can see it to its completion through your efforts. I can't wait! (As for a name, I'll leave that to people with more imagination than myself. )

I like the concept, for the most part. A couple of things on this version, both likes and dislikes.

Leave the roll under the rockers, this looks too square for my taste. Also, I don't think the front and rear fascia need lowering, the whole car does. Theres a pretty good gap between the tires and wheelwells in the picture. I can attest that with an inch and a half lowering on the Finale, the control arms are virtually parallel with the ground (a good thing) and it's about as low as you want on a typical street driven car.

I REALLY like the elimination of the inset in the rear. That caused us fits with the mounting of the Bonneville tail lights. Get rid of that, as you have, and it opens a lot of possibilities. If I build another one it will not have that in there, it will be filled. Also, fill the rectangular vent type openings in the back. They do nothing of value and take away from the lines IMHO. We filled ours.

I'm torn on the wheelwells curving around the tires or going straight down. On the yellow car, I think straight would be better, on the red car I think it looks good curved. Some minor flares would look nice, but the body is more than wide enough now to house 255 or 265 tires, so they're really not necessary.

I like the filled "portholes" at the bottom of the door. They also do nothing of value and it cleans the design up. Fill the door handles for the same reason.

I really like the rear area that Aus created. I don't care for his filled spoiler, I like the low stock spoiler better, but that's no big deal. There's a reason that spoiler is like it is on the Fino/Finale (nothing to do with aerodynamics) and it would be a real PITA to lower it as much as Aus has for body mounting purposes. Keep in mind this has to be practical as a KIT for Archie to sell to a wide array of customers that have varying degrees of fabricating skills.

Doug Chase, let's talk dual hoop roll bars........Functional ones.

Archie, we need to talk. I need a winter project and a home for the Northstar. Seriously, get the initial prototype work done and I'll be in line for the first customer kit. We need to kick this around some more, we've already talked about a Targa or Roadster car on the phone in the past.

Hey Aus, still looks GREAT. I never thought I would say that about a Fiero without a top, but I am now. (Yeah, I know, it's a Finale, close enough). Good luck with the build, Archie!

Thanks for the comments on my photoshop. I'll try changing some of that stuff now, because I'm bored lol. As for the flares, are you saying flare the rockers or flare the fenders...? I'll be back in a while with the product... oh and the door handles, when you say fill them, do you mean smooth them or keep the aluminum handle but eliminate the indent behind it?

k, well this is what I've done so far:

Obviously the changes are subtle... I tried to add some sort of definition to the rockers, as well as lowering the car a tiny bit. I straightened out the wheel wells instead of having them hug the tires at the bottom. I eliminated the indent behind the handles, and got rid of the rectangluar cutouts above the tail lights. I think thats all...

I've been looking for a good roadster kit. This just might be the one!

In other words, I'd be interested in buying/building a car like this.

Good work so far. a (+) for you. The rolled under rockers on the original car and the wheel wells that hug the tires are the things that made me love the Finale body style in the 1st place. That's the "Coke Bottle" shape that keeps the car from looking like another Eclipse it also provided the definition you are looking for in the rockers. I like the "Eyebrow" line extending back above the wheel well. The door handle area and the vent in the door look great filled in. The oval vents around the back end will stay, you'll understand why later.

I'm interested to see what you do to the back end, try to remember that I just imported almost $6,000.00 worth of the Fino/Finale tail lights from the U.K. I'm not looking foreward to throwing away over 1000 tail lights.

Nite

I also like the wheel wells that hug the tires, but I changed them due to some requests from others, and just out of pure curiousity.

When I'm doing the rear I'll keep in mind what you mentioned here, but with the tail lights, is that black piece that wraps around onto the sides of the rear a part of the tail light assembly? I got rid of it in photoshop because I thought it was bodywork or a paint design. Let me know...

It's just paint. It is indented into the fiberglass but is highlighted by contrasting paint to make the backend more linear.

Ok here is a name suggestion. The F1-Spyder or the F1-Speedster representing the Finale version one convertible (spyder or speedster)
