Well I did as you suggested and spent my whole evening reading this thread. Dam only took 6hours lol. I thought it kinda sucked how the doors were guessed so early. Also it was funny that after you posted the first pics of the doors opened it took like 7 posts before anyone commented on them lol. Do you have any updates on changes and such? I thought I read somewhere you had sold the stinger is this true? Great car anyways its great to see outher people as devoted to their cars as I am

It occurs to me that I've never seen a detailed thread of a 3800SC or 4.9 or NStar swap. I wonder why not.
I think it would be cool if some people would do a complete L67 & 4.9 & NStar swap and document it in a thread. Including as much detail as we've shown with this swap. Not some before and after pics, but real detailed step by step coverage. Right here where we can see it day by day.
On the subject of the Stinger, I'm going to tear it down in a couple of weeks for a Hot Cam kit and a few other mods. Stay tuned.

I just spent the ENTIRE past 2 hours reading this thread! OMFG WOW! Now I need to get up and stretch, I feel like I'm taking break from driving a few hours on a trip! Archie, I've been to your site a few times, I've browsed every page, You are a true Idol to me, I will definatly consult you when I am doing my engine swap. Keep the up the amazing, PERFECT work!
In a week or so we're going to take the engine out of the Stinger for some mods.
I'm going to be installing the GM "Hot Cam" kit including 1.6 Roller Rockers and heavier valve springs. I've also been working with QuarterMaster on a new clutch that we will be testing out in the Stinger. If this works out, we may be able to offer an even higher performance clutch option on our V-8 kits & swaps.
Even though we haven't installed the Hot Cam yet, I did put the new S&P Hot cam Chip in the ECM just to see how it would work. I then took the Stinger over for it's 2nd. annual Smog check and although readings were at the high end of the scale (because of the chip) it did pass again.
More to come soon.

Haha, man I didn't notice that. They had a bunch of Middle eastern types working in there today. Whenever I've taken cars into be smogged before I always told them to check it as a 8 cylinder car. This time when I told him that, he said "No Problem, No Problem" (I can't mimic the accent).
Looks like the gut never did push the 8 cylinder button. Maybe that's why the readings seemed high.
I should take it back and give them another chance to do it right..... NOT!!!

Heck, if you're gonna add the HOT cam, why not just put on the LT4 conversion kit with LT4 heads, LT4 intake, and the HOT Cam? That should put you at about 425HP on a stock LT1 with just the conversion. Not sure what computer mods are necessary, though.

According to: http://www.malcams.com/legacy/misc/lt1lt4.html These are the LT4 specs... 1996 LT4 Owner: Gerard DeSantis Engine : 5.7-liter MFI V8 LT4 Horsepower: 330@5800 rpm Torque: 340 lbs.-ft.@4500 rpm Block: Cast iron, 4-bolt mains Crankshaft: Cast iron, undercut and rolled journal fillets Pistons: Cast aluminum Compression: 10.8:1 Cylinder heads: Aluminum, with 185cc intake port volume Combustion chambers: 54.4cc Valves: 1.94 intake/1.50 exhaust Valve spring pressure: 100 lbs. I am not saying that you are incorrect about the LT4 conversion HP, but what makes the difference?

The LT4 conversion includes the LT4 HOT Cam (.525 lift with the included 1.6 ratio roller rockers), not the stock LT4 cam. The 425 HP figure is what GM quotes you'll get from the conversion.

And I'm pretty sure that GM is quoting Brake H.P.

Good point. GM quotes the LS1 crate engine at 320HP, and the ZZ4 at 355HP, but are those the same type of rating? I don't know.
Archie, your website mentions an LT1 makes 300 SAE Net HP or 370+ BHP. In your opinion, is it stronger than the ZZ4? You also mentioned they are getting scarce. Can you still get LT1 crate engines?
I don't know if you can still buy a LT1 crate engine. I ended up paying $1000 for a used LT1 out of a wrecked 1996 SLP Camaro. The car was hit from the right rear quarter so there was no damage to the front end. Archie installed this motor in my 5 spd 88GT this past winter and the smile is still on my face. These engines are still out there as my friend here in Miami just bought one to replace the one in his Caddy. It had 30,000 miles on it and he paid $1500 for it. He also bought a second one to install in his 87GT.

Just about the time I pull the heads off, then I'll want to rebuild the whole engine. This engine is a new crate engine, if I'm going to rebuild an LT1 engine, I'll go buy a used one.
Besides this car was not built for drag racing. How many people build drag cars with suicide doors and a chop top? Once you get faster than a certain speed, you have to put a roll cage or bar in the car. That would ruin the whole reason to build the car. Imagine this old dinosaur crawling in & out of the car with chop top, suicide doors AND roll cage.

I thought I'd bump this back up to the top (to keep it from being Archived) by posting some pics. of the Stinger as it appeared in the Nov. 2003 Issue of HPP magazine.

New member here, just wanted to add my little bit of praise. What a fantastic car! I actually saw it on your website before I joined PFF, and fell in love instantly.
I just recently (6 days ago) became a Fiero owner after having loved them since I saw the first spy photos way back when, and over the years remember hearing about V-8 conversions and thinking how great that would be to do someday.
One bit of detail I don't know if you could do, but have you thought about replacing the black plastic "Corvette" covers on the engine with something that says Fiero? I have no idea how hard it would be to make them, but if it could be done I'll bet there would be a couple other people interested in putting something like that on their Fieros.
Keep up the great work, I look forward to reading more build threads on PFF.

Thanks joining in on the largest Fiero thread on PFF over 27 pages and 1000+ posts.
Yes, it kinda looks like we are going to start doing the suicide doors for people. This car has been swinging the doors bassackwards for almost 2 years now, So I think they'll be ok.
I like to test things before I sell them.

Hey Archie, got any copies of the mag laying around? Is it a old issue? If not can I buy one? If not...oh well there goes another one that got away. To get a current magazine to place anything related to a Fiero is just about zero. Where there any other T.V. personallities there covering the Fiero?
