I just completed building new headlite buckets with 90mm Parabolics ive spent over 22 hrs on them so far and need another 6-8 before there perfect. The headlamps are from Hella, The same that new BMW & Audi use.
I love that. Would be even cooler if they opened fully (normally) but with cool lights like those =)
Opening fully is one of the goofy, dated, aero reducing drawback of stock. These are spectacular! What will your price be? I'm ready now...Nice work, JD

Are we going to get a photo series of the buildup?
I've got a ton of questions... have you managed to get the system to open and close automatically to that level? Have you incorporated a headlight aiming system?

That's just what I want to do. They look better than the fieroshop ones, they sit better, closer to the top and bottom of the opening. Where did you get the parts? How much did it cost ya? Steve
I have a feeling you used the 88type headlight motors so that you can put a stop where they opened?? I have plans to do similar just with a rectangle bulb, Haven't the time yet for that though with the other projects I'm caught up in...

I sat down with some measuring tools and my stock headlite bucket assembly and designed a bucket that is 3" lower than the stock one. the height was dictated be the height of the new lites.
The lites are made by Hella, they are the 90mm Parabolics. these are the same lites that Hella supplies to BMW and AUDI. They are DOT Approved as well as fully adjustable.
The buckets are made of a combination of 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" high density Black Plexiglass, It took me three attempts to get it right.
The great thing about this is that they mount to the stock points on the motor housing with the exception of, instead of the buckets mounting on the inside of the posts, they mount on the outside. (needed for clearance of the hella lite housing) the motors still fully push and pull the buckets. the buckets are simply 3" shorter. here are some pics of the build.
The first is the prototype 1/8" metal ones that I had water jet cut. I ended up just using it as a template.
The Hella 90mm Lites, Both Low and High beam
You can see on the outside corners of the lites where the adjustment screws mount
here is the start of the bucket
and mounted on the motor housing
And finally the end result
I took it out last nite in the rain (not normal) to adjust the beams. I live out in the country so a deserted dark road is just at the end of my 1000' drive.
OH MY GOD!!!... its like turning on the switch to daylite.... They were worth every bit of $ for the lites and some 20+ Hrs of labor to build.
Total Cost to date $360.00 Hella lites $ 50.00 Waterjet template $ 50.00 Plexiglass & Misc supplies
they look great! why did you offset them? was it clearance issues? at any rate they look fantastic, your car is definitely taking more and more of a ferrari attitude.

I'm wondering this, too. Why are the inner lights (high beams?) positioned about a half inch lower than the outter lights? Also, what did you do to make the lights open lower like that? BTW, looks real nice.

The first "face" I made with both lites even. Its a personal thing, But I didnt like the look it was just Blah. I offset the high beams 3/4" down, they still clear the hood and look alot nicer.
Kits may be a possibility, and yes they would be about $500.00 I would need to create a Jig and new templates as these were done hand and took far too long to make and sell.
its sort of like "Skitime's" rear metal vent he made for his car. Ive begged and offered enough money that he could retire, and Dave just laughs.
How did I get the headlights to open Lower?
The motors still fully extend and retract its just that because I built the buckets 3" shorter than the stock the headlites open 3" lower

Thats why its in my garage and not yours. Its a personal thing. Hell its like saying you shouldnt put a 355 kit on a fiero, Really Why?
Ive done over $8000.00 in mods to my car, and everything I do, I do because I like it, Or I like the way it looks, I dont do it to please others.
Ive posted my progress as well as my ideas and have shown the things that ive built such as the headlites, In order to help/encourage others and/or just share information. i belive that is what this forum is about.
If you dont like the ferrari interior, wheels, Nose, gages, badging Etc. that Ive done to mine.
DONT DO IT TO YOURS! and thats OK. its your platform to work off of.
No flame intended.

Well said WMac. I don't understand why people on this forum feel it is necessary to give thier negative opinion about someone else's work. It makes me very hesitant to post any pics on the 30+ projects I have going on with my car.
Thanks bwayne, Ill contact them and see what kind of a deal I can get in bulk.
My main concern would be to provide a quality product that is affordable to others
I dont belive that @ $500.00 most would or could purchase these. I saw a reply on this thread that goerge has a kit for $900.00 for the same type of conversion, While I havent inquired ill bet he wont sell many. thats just too much for most.
Mabe I'll just produce final drawings and templates for you guys to put together. my initial 22 hrs in labor was measuring and drawing and cutting and fitting and re cutting and refitting and, and ,and.. well you get the picture. I think (and I will built a set and let you know) if all were layed out and supplied, it would be a 4-6hr project
and if we could get the lites for $55.00Ea I could kit it for about $350-375ish now were talking about a reasonable price for a 2002 BMW/Audi Parabolic headlite upgrade.
Again WMac, Awesome job. I just ordered all the lights and plugs, they came to $250 shipped. I would like templates if I could get some. If you still have that waterjet file it might help some people. But it probably would be cheaper just to do a group buy on the brackets, the operator would only have to set up once. Keep us posted. Thanks Steve
