The engine is mounted in the car and fits nice and snug. Battery is being relocated to the front.
Here is a few pics of some of the new parts.
Here is a pic of the old flywheel and clutch peices.
Here is the new flywheel, machined to fit the 4.9. Because I had a 3.4 I already had a neutraly balanced flywheel. The work to this looks great.
This saved me a little money, but if you are planning this swap and dont have an 88, you have to get an 88 flywheel and have it machined.
And here is the new custom built racing clutch. This should hold up much better to the 4.9 tourqe.
I also have a new pressure plate and through out baering.

Here's a pic of the my poor 3.4 sitting lonely awaiting her transplant into the Formula. She's still pretty.
This is how my car sits with the 4.9 installed. I cant really tell from the pic if it is any lower.

Man that looks clean! Your 3.4 was a good looking motor, hopefully you can get the 4.9 to look as good. They always seem to look very cluttered on top. Bet your looking forward to polishing those brake rotors after a few spirited drives in your 4.9

The motor has been in for a while now but at the last minute, I decided to make a call to Sumitt Racing and place a big fat order to even further enhance the performance of this engine swap. As most know or may have figured out, I have converted the 4.9 to a Carborated setup.
I am using a 500cfm Holley, Highly polished for visual appeal. Electric choke kit. Mounted to a custom Intake manifold capable of flowing 1000cfm. Custom built Distributor with advance recurve kit that will allow this motor to rev quicker and higher. Lower rate fuel pump, and a polished adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Exhaust will be a true 2 1/2" dual exhaust with 2 chambered tube mufflers. I hope this answers some questions on why the finished product has not been shown.
If anyone is interested in seeing my car finished and how it performs. Come on down to the "cruise to the Keys on October 22".

Here is a top shot of the engine. With the Carb mounted.
This is not a new pic. Engine will be cleaned up and dressed to impress.
The carb has been wired and plumed. Yesterday at the junk yard I got lucky, and picked up a nice Valve cover that looks new. They will go on last to avoid scrathing and chipping.

Darn you I was going to be the only 4.9 with the polished holley 500cfm ... Another question on the flywheel.... Im in the stages of converting mine to a 5speed also but a flywheel from a 88 fiero can be machined to work? Im still in the stages of figureing this flywheel part out....... BTW how much does it cost to have one machined... Im not sure on the cost or any machine shop that will take on the job yet.
I already know the intake air hat your probally using.... I just received mine off of ebay mine will be rotated towards the alt tho. Btw looking very good keep up the good work you two.
And any info on the flywheel will be appreciated.... I get off oct 8 and will have a week and a half to finish my conversion.

Just a little somthing to help keep this thing under control in the rear.
Nice work guys keep it up....You are in the right hands with MTA. I see one of the pics with the hydrolic line how do you guys get the mount on to mount under the car..... The one I have has a spiral like contraption on it to mount it.

I'm not realy sure what you are refering to. I'm sure MTA will be able to help you out. He did tell me it was a Biatch to get it installed though.
Punisher "SH" for some reason I am beginning to like you although you can be a "dick "some times but at least you speak your mind even when cussing me out and I give you credit for that so a + for you
does the stock caddy belt tensioner fit???? I was told it would not, and I have had months of crap trying to get mine perfect without it. Let me guess, with the torsion bars in place, it will not fit, but with a strut holding the lid up, it will?

Why don't you just get a tensiones from a 3.4 engine and use tha cause that is what we used and it worked with the caddy alternator
We used the same one on Jeff's 4.9 and I have one sitting on the shelf for my swap. Mickey Moose is the one that figured this one out and +++ for him. or at least I think it was MM

ok, that will be my next effort, after I find out if the stock one will work or not. Does anyone know if the stock caddy tensioner will fit with the torsion bars removed? (I already have them out, and a strut in their place.) I have my caddy tensioner sitting in my garage which is about 100 miles from here.

after lookign closer at the pictures, it looks like fieroearl86 changed his mind about the caddy tensioner, and went with something else. is that the camaro tensioner?

It is almost done. Here is some of the exhaust work ready to be put together. Like I said before it will be a true dual set up. Those are Chambered mufflers, not strait through.
Only thing left is the Distributor. Now I am getting excited.
Looking good again... I like the chambered mufflers.... Your totally going to have to show pics of the dist made, I made mine from bubbajoes site but left the vacume mechanizism off of it.... I only heard it effects gas mileage so I only left mine mechanical advance without the vacume.
About the tensioner, I think the camero tensioner for the belt has become one of the most popular items used in this conversion. I made my tensioner for my alt but it will be changed to the camero belt tensioner setup.
I still like the steering torshoin bar setup I used for a dogbone mount I have a pic of it somewere on here.

One of the thing I might put on to steady this motor when we go "Porsche hunting" is a late model Geo storm adjustable rear stabilizer bar bolted to the head and hooked up to a bolt welded to the cradle and it will keep every thing in perspective at least you save at buying a torque strut like this $10
instead of this $70 each

As you might not know but I had to make a custom distributor for this engine since we are running a carb and I had to use actually 2 to make 1 a Oldsmobile and a Caddy 4.1 or early 4.5 but this will be the new firestick for this motor. This is the shaft from the PFI 4.9 distributor
I had to cut the oldsmobile shaft and drill a hole in it to pin the cam gear.
This is the finished product with a Mr Gasket curve kit installed that will give 24 deg of timing.
and ready for the garbage.
