Hello everyone. I'm sorry that I have not been active on the Forum these last few months. I have seen these threads, and intended to respond in a timely manner, but obviously failed to do so. My apologies to those who have taken the time to report data, and my thanks to FieroBruiser, Fiero John -WI, and all you other fine people for keeping the data coming in. I am working with a friend who is putting together a website, which will make it easier to both submit data and to see some results of collecting this data over the last 5 years or so. We have data on almost 4000 cars now, and of this 4000, we have both the interior and exterior colors for 2992 of them. Other data, like number of cars with sunroofs or other options, is not as complete, but from these 2992 cars mentioned above, I have the following percentages of colors to report:

GTs Formulas Coupes All
Interior Color = Gray Tan Gray Tan Gray Tan Gray Tan
Exterior Color = Red : 63% 37% 80% 20% 79% 21% 73% 27%
Exterior Color = Med Red: 65% 35% 84% 16% 86% 14% 74% 26%
Exterior Color = Black: 65% 35% 76% 24% 77% 23% 71% 29%
Exterior Color = White: 62% 38% 75% 25% 73% 27% 69% 31%

All Four Colors Combined: 63% 37% 79% 21% 78% 22% 72% 28%

These percentages for ALL combined together, 72% with Gray and 28% with Beechwood (Tan), seem to jive with what I've seen published elsewhere for the total production run in 1988, so I tend to believe that this breakdown of Ext/Int colors is probably pretty accurate, especially given the random sampling of cars over the last 5 years of collecting data. I'm not sure that our little cars will ever reach the collectibility point where it matters much what the rarity of color combos is, but it is interesting to note that the Med Red Coupes have the smallest percentage of Beechwood interiors, at 14%, following closely by the Med Red Formulas with 16%.

I'm sorry to have been so quiet, and promise to be more active soon. In the meantime, I'll try and get the last few months worth of data entered and post some more info.

Thank You to Everyone,

John Willhoff, aka 88 Database Guy.
JwWillhoff@aol.com

PS: I have similar data for the percentages of cars with manual or auto trannys, but I'll save that for the website.

Thanks guys, 'preciate the 'preciation! Since I don't say much here, I need to say it again that any work I'm doing wouldn't be worth much without the help from you guys in particular, and the fiero community in general. And, since I neglected to say it in my first post, Thank You to Cliff for the Forum. As a beginner in a small scale website, I can only say that Cliff is a Fiero God, of the first Order. Cliff gets my vote for Fiero Grand Potentate of the year!

Skybax, check your PMs, and thanks for the help. Songman, I missed the thread that caused you so much grief, but hope things can be worked out to where you will hang around and contribute, and not be a lurker like me! But, I respect your decision and know we'll keep in touch. Nice California Run, by the way, and thanks for adding the spacing, I guess my blanks didn't stick.

Fiero John, Good to hear from you, and I'll shoot you and Fierobruiser a copy when I git them all entered. Toddster, not sure yet, I've been batting around a few obvious choices, but was kind of wanting something more creative. Regarding Silver car numbers, I didn't include them or the Yellow cars because they were all supposed to be with Gray interiors. Now, I do have a couple of each which have been reported to have had Beechwood interiors, but the numbers are less than 4 total, and since I don't have solid info on them (ie direct reporting of the color override code on the Service Parts Identification sticker under the hood) I left them out.

Ok, gotta go, but will check back in again tomorrow, and Thanks Again for everyone's help.

John

Hi Cheever,

This is probably a world record for my response time. Sorry to hear you sold your 88GT, I'll check my email and record the details. Thanks for the heads up, and the bump!

Good Luck,

Here is a neat series of questions...

1) If I have a early production 88 GT (# 0819)..... out of 819 total Fiero's that started rolling off the assembly line..... how many were GT's out of that 819?

(Note: 6,848 GT's out of 26,401 Fiero's produced)

2) To make it more interesting.... out of the 819, how many GT's were 5-speeds?

(Note: 3799 88 GT's were 5-speeds)

3) Even deeper..... out of the 819, how many GT's were 5-speeds and red in color?

(Note: 10,238 Fiero's were red)

Statisticly speaking, can anyone do an educated guess based on the numbers?

Skybax,

I've often wondered that same thing about my silver 87 GT. It's number 952. Would be interesting if anyone could figure it out.

88Databaseguy,

I just bought an 88 Formula, from Darrell Morse. What info do you need from me?

I did the math 2 different ways and came up with the same number...

Out of the first 819 Fiero's produced in 1988..... 45 of them were red 5-speed GT's.

I doubt it's accurate, because it's going strictly by percentages.

*shrug*

PS: just a little 88 FYI for those who like numbers...

- 6849 were GT's
- 5300 GT's had a spoiler
- 3912 GT's had a sunroof
- 3799 GT's had a 5-speed
- 2073 GT's had a subwoofer
- 1324 GT's had leather

- Car # 819 rolled down the line on August 17th 1987

Skybax,

Very interesting math! Here's what I would speculate.
From the database, we have info on 136 cars built up to and including yours, number 819. Of these,
27% are Formulas (versus 21% for the entire production run in 1988)
24% are GTs (vs 26%)
49% are Coupes (vs 53%)
Based on these percentages, I'm concluding that the sample of GTs in the first 136 cars of the database is representative of the entire
production run. Therefore, based on the total number of GTs being 6848, there should be about 212 GTs built in the first 819 cars.

The first big run of cars built (not counting the first 7) seems to have been Red. The next, White, then Black, then Red again including your car.
Filling in the gaps in the color info in the database, I estimate that of the 212GTs, probably 42% of them were Red, or
89 Red GTs built in the first 819 Fieros.

Now, from a look at the total Red 88GT population in the database, namely 385 cars, the breakdown in transmission types is as follows:
5 spds = 56% . So, 56% of 89 cars, equals 50 cars. You estimated 45! How about that, sports fans? Who do you like in this years Superbowl?

More info: from the 385 Red GTs, 63% of them have Grey interiors, so if I had to guess, I'd say that 31 of the 50 cars have Grey interiors, and 19 of them have Beechwood interiors.

That's pretty good shootin' there, Skybax!

musicman_L7, congrats on the new car, when you can, I'd be grateful to get the factory Exterior and Interior colors, the transmission type, and the roof type. Any other info you might care to share, like options, or car history is more than welcome too. Thanks for the heads up, and sorry I can't help you with your car's percentages.

Thanks Guys!

Therefore, based on the total number of GTs being 6848, there should be about 212 GTs built in the first 819 cars.

I got that same number the first time, then I got 317 the second time doing the color first.

I got 114 the first time, and 82 the second time. hehe

I came up with 45 in both equations!
