This is not really intended to be a build thread, but I wanted to share my progress in getting the LS1 mated to the 4T65eHD transmission and sitting on a 88 Fiero cradle.

This is a excellent package. The mounts are somewhat DIY, but the adapter plate is anything but easy to come up with, and the converter requires, custom flywheel, pilot bushing, and starter configuration.

One 3800SC mount is used in the stock Fiero mount location. This should clue you in that I strived to get this package in the same location as the 2.8 and 3800SC installs for 2 reasons. No frame rail modifications, and weldable attaching points for kits to be easy for someone that is use to some assembly required type things.

So in this first pic we see the LS1 attached to the 4T65eHD, but it is actually sitting on a Grand Prix cradle in this picture. I have the engine very level, and fully attached at this point. Time for custom exhaust on this install.

This next pic is the LS1 package on the Fiero cradle. While I dont have all the attaching points complete, it is within 6 hours of being done with mounting because I used alot of what I did with the Grand Prix cradle right on this Fiero cradle. Notice I have used the rear mount on the transmission with this Fiero cradle. This installation will have 5 attaching points on the cradle itself. Extremely strong and good to 600HP hopefully... The attaching mounts are all poly mounts. Dogbone? We will see. I am hoping it will not be needed.

This next pic is showing my custom mount on the left side. Sorry, I will not be showing this mount until the kits are ready. There's no rocket science in designing a mount that uses alot of OEM holes, but it attaches to the cradle finally resolves the dogbone issue up top I hope. One thing about this install is the oil pan is flat in the way for the exhaust to channel under the cradle as it does for the 2.8 and 3800SC, so the trunk is going to be modified to get the muffler and CAT in place. Notice the location of the AC compressor, I will be showing a pic further down of the clearance in the 88 chassis of the 3800SC install to compare with. You will see it all clears with no problems with my custom mounts of the engine accessories.

This next pic shows the 3800SC mount in the stock Fiero location and the rear mount attachment I will be using. The front mount on the engine is not complete, but I will reveal what that is and how I will be using it later.

Nice rear shot... My adapter plate...

********Continued in next post since I exceeded the picture attachment amount..................*******

*********** continued from above post ***************

Here is the 88 chassis with the AC compressor area showing the clearance of the frame rails and how room was there to start with.

Now the LS1 from somewhat the same angle.

Now the rear shot of the transmission and 88 chassis clearance. This is my 3800SC install.

So, I hope this helps in your decisions for hybrid engine installations.

While the 3800SC V6 has been a great engine to install in a Fiero, the ole " I could have had a V8" just comes up to much still. This LS1 engine is the most advanced engine I have read about, and GM making .9 HP per cubic inch on the F-Body, and a whooping 1.17 HP per cu in on the vette engines, this LS1/LS6 has the potential to make 1.5HP per cu in for about $4500. Thats 525HP at the crank using 346 cu in... Torque is incredible on this engine as well.

The Grand Prix project I am working on currently is a LS6 configured with forged crank, diamond pistons, 6.125 rods, LS6 stage II heads, and many other nice items. This engine is estimated at 550 HP at the crank. The 4T65eHD has been built at DynoTech with all the hard parts in the right place and LSD. Estimated to handle 650HP with no problems.

I will be building the LS1 engine harness to the Grand Prix car with ABS, traction control, and all the other stock items. This PCM will be programmable with HP Tuners and the newly released LS1/LS6 EFIFlash, or if DHP ever gets LS1/LS6 support to me first.

The buildup of this car and my Fiero should be on my projects webpages in about 30 days. This page .. http://www.fastfieros.com/projects/index.htm

Thanks,

Loyde

I've always considered the LS1 in a Fiero my personal Holy Grail. I wish I had the cash.

Thanks,

I prefer to have conversations via the phone. Its faster, and I can be alot more detailed. I dont type that fast, and I dont like chatting online much.

My webpage has some 65e information on the FastFieros FastTech section. If the info you are looking for is not there and I can help you in researching the answers, I will add it also to the webpage. http://www.fastfieros.com/tech/index.htm

So please feel free to call 10am - 10pm central time any of the 7 days a week.

Hey Loyde awsome job ! With all that extra room on the front side of the engine you would have no problem running a centrifugal style supercharger on that thing (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)

Well, I have my eye on one of these.....

Bolt one of these magnachargers to a LS1 and its 63-125% more horsepower (depending on application). Little pricey, but it sure looks and sounds pretty.
