Sounds like a 3.4 might be the perfect engine for you. My 3.4 with some mods can run a 14.9/15.0 (I ran a 15.000 on a hot day and I was babying it off the line). It still looks pretty stock:
It is also a fairly cheap and easy install as you can utilize most of the 2.8's parts. You need to redrill the starter holes and utilize an 88 flywheel and oil pan but other than that you're ready to go! I've been very happy with the performance of the engine and it's reliability. I have 14k on mine and haven't had any problems.

************************************************************************************ Mistress, Just a little clarification. Low Key was prolly referring to The ET's (elapsed times) for the 1/4 mile when he asked "What are you looking for 14's? 13's? 12's?
She must be a dumb blonde. LOL, if shes looking for 17's she's gonna have to detune the 2.8 a little, I think she should be the first ever with a Iron Duke GT.
Hahaha--okay. My bad--I was thinking rim size on the tires--not ET's. Learned something new already. Thanks. As far as ET--I might have to crawl first depending on the amount of work and $$ it'll take. I'd want at least a 14/15, so Fierochic88's 3.4 with some mods is a goal. I definitely want a V8 eventually.
Tina, Fierogirls-mom--love your cars! Tina, how long did that take? In my dreams, I want those doors! How difficult is that to do anyway? (The tip on the high-end nail polish is appreciated. )
California Kid--thanks for the visual on the color. I was thinking about something a bit darker that would coordinate with chrome rims and really show off a shiny topcoat with some flecks of silver to match the rims. Know what I mean?
Thanks for the welcomes and the help so far. You guys have really gotten me excited--I can't wait to get down and dirty. (I'm talking about working on the car, guys, the car. I just realized how that would sound in here. Sheez.) Thanks for the ebay tip. I'm going to start checking out listings to get an idea on price ranges to start. What do you think I should be on the lookout for? I know these cars are kind of old to begin with, and I don't want to get shafted with the price, so I need some more guidance on where I should be looking for say and 86 GT fastback. I'm not sure if I can afford an 88 (need to use some of that $ on some cool stuff for the car ).
It looks like my budget is going to be severely affected by undertaking this project. I can sympathize with you Tina on the wardrobe issues. I've resigned myself to the fact that some of my guilty pleasures will have to be put aside to save for the car. I just started my own business and my schedule is kind of flexible, so I'll have lots of time that I can "reallocate" towards my car research.
Anybody know where I can get my hands on manuals that show the engine and stock makeups for the cars? I wanna do some background research so I won't make as many mistakes-- like confusing ET's for rim sizes. I've changed the oil and replaced a few spark plugs, but I haven't done much more than that. I've watched alot and actually wanted to go to auto repair school, so I'm willing and ready to get my hands (a little) dirty. Any tips on where to start with a crash course in engine work? ( I'm actually willing to read the instructions the first time around.)

A good source for stock info would be the Hayne's Manual for Fieros, which can probably be found in the auto section of WalMart, it breaks down the process off taking apart and putting it together, section by section, and has many images to help you identify parts. It's not the most thorough reading material, but it will certainly help. If you search the tech section on this forum as well, you will find a goldmine of information on stock upkeep, along with mods......most threads provide helpful images to help you along the way. But I would get the manual anyway because it will even help when you're looking in the tech threads or posting questions, and people respond using technical mechanic terms, because some will assume you know what they mean. The Hayne's manual is kinda like a glossary, and the one manual shows the process for most years/models. I'm sure more people can chyme in with some literature sources that can help you aswell. James

Are you kidding?? I keep thinking I ought to hire some woman to help me pick out clothes for myself. I really don't think your statement is at all surprising or flame-worthy.
Of course my lack of clothes sense is legendary. "Anything showing that shouldn't be? No. Will I be too hot or too cold? No. Okay, off we go!" "Ed, you're going to wear THAT??" "What's wrong with lederhosen and an aloha shirt??"
THE ABOVE EXAMPLE IS FICTIONAL

EDIT: BTW I'd heartily recommend getting the Factory Service Manual for whatever year car you get. The FSM is an invaluable source of information on how things go together and come apart. Just be sure you don't get the PRELIMINARY manual, because the prelim book is usually not very complete. And do also get the Haynes and Chiltons manuals for the Fiero, too. You cannot have too much documentation!

Mistress, If you're serious about a good manual for any year Fiero, call "Rick and Mindys Automotive Service Manuals" at (810) 798-8206, in Almont, Michigan. I've been buying quite a few service manuals from them as they are also on Ebay. You can get these manuals in different conditions from them. Some like new and others slightly used but good enough to keep in the garage next to your Fiero. The service manuals are invaluable to Fiero owners because it has sections like Engine, Transmission, Chassis Electrical, Brakes, Steering, and Accessories. The 86 year manual, for instance will cover all 4 and 6 cylinder Fieros as well as GT's and Notchbacks etc. Another item to look for would be a P-3 Manual. It has assembly views of all the systems in the the car along with Part No.s for everything. To get a good line on your Fiero choices you might email Paul Vargyas at paulv@xnet.com. He always has some good ones that are being sold and is also the membership director of our Fiero Club. See below for one that I bought from Paul.
This medium blue metallic color actually has distinctive silver flakes everywhere thruout the paint.

If your looking for a good Fiero to get started, this is one fine example that might be available for you, also owned by one of the fine female members here!! It's located in Ohio.

Getting a visual here ... whoah. Now how to get rid of it ?
I was talking more about huge tach's though, the size of alarm clocks, spoilers where they simply do not belong, simulated woodgrain, racing stripes on something with 4 doors and stickers on a car that you purchased by the dozen. None or very few actually represented by a part made by such manufacturer in the car.
In search of the Advil Thanks Ed

Miss-Tress007 if you're looking for a car, Atlanta's not really that far away. One of our club members has 1 or 2 for sale, and at the meeting, yesterday, he spoke of someone nearby that's getting out of Fieros and has about 4 or 5. I also know of an 85GT or 86SE that's in much better than average condition. It just had a very babied (oil changes every 2000 miles) engine installed. It's also a lady's car. She's asking $3000.

My work here is done.
Seriously, I don't actually dress like that. And I don't do any of the other things you mentioned, either. I'm more of a "sleeper" kind of guy, actually. (I wouldn't mind one of those Turbo Dodge Caravans with simulated wood-grain siding! But that's about the only vehicle with simulated wOOOOOOd that I'd own...)
I don't know what to suggest for the mental image. Sorry!

Well its good to see another chicki on the forum. Not too many girls into fieros. I have an 85GT painted bright purple metallic with a lot of metallic flake in the clear coat. Right now it just has the stock 2.8 but I want to someday put a 3.4 twincam in it. Right now the 3.4twincam swap is taking place in my husbands 88. So I have just been working on the looks for now. It has quarter panal scoops from the fiero warehouse and we have clear taillights to put on it. I also want to do some customizing to the interior but not sure what to do yet. Plus I have to get the sunroof to quite leaking before I do anything. My husband and I have owned 33 fieros (I think thats right). Currently we have 6 right now but only 2 are "road legal" the rest are being fixed or undergoing an engine swap. Well I hope to see you at some shows this year.

Thanks Bazooka. I'll check them out to get the manuals this week. Love the color on the car. Metallic silver flakes just DO something to a car, don't they?
Cool pics and thanks for the welcome,FieroAngel. Ditto to the other "well-wishers". Everyone has been really helpful so far. I'll be sure to search the forum for more pics to narrow down my designs even more. You guys have been great.
I'll check out the leads on Fieros for sale as well.
BTW, Let me apologize in advance for the many utterly stupid questions that I will probably be asking about Fieros and the whole process from this point on. I'm pleading the 5th in advance that none of the stupid things that I may ask or say can be used against me in future posts. All who enter this thread and interact with me from this point forward vow to take the pledge upon posting to this thread now and forever more. (This is where you do the secret handshake and salute.) LOL
Can't wait to go to some of the shows and see the cars in person. Do you have any suggestions on good build threads for me to check out? I want to get a sense of the process. Does anyone have any pics of cool accessories? (Tina, you know we babes have to "co-ordinate"! )

Welcome to the forum. I have A highly modified 87 GT most of the forum member have not seen it. I took it to the 20th I placed 3rd in my class. I have been doing the engine swap and customizing the interior for the last year I hope to have it complete by this summer so I can take it to some more Fiero meets. The paint and body modifications were done by Hammack Automotive in Denver CO. July 2003. The suspension is Held I used #F40 Held / KYB coil-over rear strut assembly ’84 – ’87 and the front Sport Suspension kit (84-87), breaks are also the 13” upgrade with drop spindles from Held. I have 17” Kaizer Wheels and Dunlop SP Sport W-10 235/40ZR17/90W Tires. We are in the process of an engine and transmission swap. The engine is a 350SBC with vortec heads, custom built exhaust headers and exhaust, TPI with white racing electronic components, custom wiring all hidden. The transmission is a 4T60 4-speed auto with heavy-duty parts. The interior is also going to be totally custom designed by my brother and me; The Fiero has so many modifications and upgrades I am sure I miss some items. I also have an all stock Formula that has 41K on it. I took the formula to Wheatstock last year because the GT was not finished yet. Feel free to email me if you have questions or just to talk cars.

Other than the obvious, you know whats nice about Diane (24K Gold Se)?
She only lives a couple of miles from me and I have A LOT of pics of her taken at various car shows. Some I have already shared with PFF (Do A Search).
And let me tell you that the pics do NOT do her any justice as standing with her and looking at her face to face.

*Shudder* this does not bring a good image to mind. There are, unfortunately, poor cars out there have have to suffer through these injustices.

Been doing some more "research" (that's what I call spending 2+ hours poking around in the forum, checking out pics of cars) and have definitely come up with some things to put in the Babe Fiero.
The Hottie (so far) 1. 17" rims 2. Deep fuschia exterior with metallic silver flecks in the clear coat & chrome rims--interior possibly combination of fuschia, grey and white to compliment the exterior and the chrome accents. I want the interior to be "warm and fuzzy", but sleek and sassy too--look good and feel good. 3. manual transmission (maybe I'll look into the "shifter mod" suggested earlier--not) 4. GT fastback
I'm trying to find a car in Louisiana. There are a few that pop up every so often in New Orleans, so I'm hoping to have one within the next month or so. After checking out the pictures, I'm really wanting a GT fastback and hope I'll be able to find one that's in good condition.
I think I'll probably want to have it lowered. With 17" rims, how high is the car normally and how much can it be lowered?
