I'm with you, Fierobear, but I've never had occasion to test my will power in that way.
Women don't do that to me. Guess I'm too scary, even tho I'm really just a harmless, lovable little fuzzball. Or maybe I just don't give off the right pheromones....
Hmm, "fuzzball"...

And Miss-Tress007 I really do hope you know I was just joking!!!
No problem GSXRBOBBY--all in good fun.
Lots of updates....I haven't been visiting the forum lately, had alot of work to catch up on. But I MIGHT BE GETTING A FIERO IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS!!!! YYYYEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!
I'm so excited! I met some of the guys from the forum earlier this week, Exotic Rida and some others and the guys have a lead on a car that I may be able to get really soon. Originally I was looking at having to wait at least a couple of months, but now there's the prospect of getting my own Fiero alot sooner than that. Plus, they're even going to help me with the work on it! (or rather I'm going to try not to get in the way too much while it's being worked on. ) They know alot about cars--engine swaps, custom fabrication, custom interiors, electrical work, etc....and they've started showing me a few things. They even told me how to design my own custom dash! Coolness! Life is good! Fieros are sweet and I'm actually going to get one ahead of schedule! (I'll keep you guys posted on the progress and will definitely post pics as soon as I get them.) I have to get the details on the car...but now I have to decide what to do first---wheels, interior, body work, system, paint job?
Like I said, LIFE IS GOOD!
P.S. I'm investigating a cool lead and if it pans out, I'll be sure to let you guys in on it. Someone told me about it, but I was a bit skeptical, so I have to find out for myself if it's real before I pass it along....

First the bad news...Turns out that I'm not going to be getting my fiero as soon as I'd hoped. The guys had found 2 cars. One of the cars is going to be for one of the dudes and it turns out that the other one needs too much work and will cost too much to get running, so it's going to be used for parts.
It's been really cool how helpful the guys have been. They're really knowledgeable about the cars and are all working on their own cars, which are in various stages of completion (or non-completion, depending on how you look at it hehe). All together there are about seven of us. They've been really nice about wanting to help me out, so we thought it would be a logical step to get together formally and form a club. We're still working out the details, so I'll keep you posted.
Anyway, now the good news...
We just found out about another lead that we're following up on about 3 other cars that are available. Apparently there's this guy who wants to get rid of the cars that he has, so he's selling 3 Fieros for $1200. Reportedly two of the cars are running, but I don't know any details on the styles, type, year, etc. We're gonna contact the guy tomorrow and check them out and as soon as we find out more, I'll let you know.
In the meantime, I'd been renting a Toyota Prius for the past couple of months (one of the hybrid cars--gets absolutely great gas mileage) and they called me on Friday to exchange it because someone bought the one I was in. From what I was told, the local car dealerships had a deal with the rental car agency to buy back these cars if people wanted them. Someone bought my car, so they called me to bring it back. I still had a couple of days left on the rental so they gave me a 2005 Grand Am for the weekend. I've got to take the rental car back tomorrow and once it goes, I'll be searching for a new "daily rider". Come to think of it, for the money I spent renting a car for 2 months... I would have had enough dough to buy those 3 Fieros we just found out about....bummer.
But, to keep plugging along.. I thinking of modifications that I could make to my car (when I get it) and was looking for something feminine to add (besides the color) and I started thinking about accents and aspects of the car that could have a definitely feminine shape--with all the right curves and lines. Something that would say "Hottie" when you looked at it.......
and voila!
I found this staring back at me in the car I was renting. It's a 2005 Grand Am and I think this part of the dash would look cool in a Hottie Fiero. All the right lines and curves, subtle yet feminine and classy without being over the top or inappropriately suggestive......
A close-up....
What do you think? BTW, it would have to be color-coordinated with the rest of the car, of course.

ENGINE!!! Make car go fast. Paint, later. Rims, only when you need to upgrade brakes. Interior, when falling apart. Stereo? Remove to save weight. Body work? Only for aerodynamics.
Get the car before you mod the car.

Buy SlammmsGt Fiero...... all it needs is a exhaust manifold. Fly out and get it and you'll be far ahead of the game. That's unless he sold it already?

I would post picks and make recommendations, but why spoil the surprise coming in a few months?

Here's the story.....I'd been kind of bummed about the prospect of actually being able to find a suitable car closeby (and I admit, was really getting jealous of reading posts by other people describing the gems they were finding falling out of the trees) when Exotic Rida and another member of our Fiero band of fanatics dropped by. He said they had probably found a car for me and wanted me to check out the listing in the paper. So I checked it out and it read "'88 FIERO, 2 DR, Auto, $750". My first thought was, "yeah, right" because I immediately thought that it wouldn't run, had major body damage or was just a parts car that they were trying to get rid of. (Yeah, I'd gotten kind of discouraged with the search, so I wasn't exactly my usually optimistic self. )
So I took a deep breath and decided that it didn't hurt to call and find out the info. After all, a phone call wouldn't kill me, right? Well, I called the guy (who was really nice and very honest) and he said that yes, he had a Fiero and that he was letting it go since he was more interested in foreign cars. He said the car runs good, but tends to run hot a bit from the engine even though the radiator stays cool--which was completely stumping him 'cause he couldn't figure out why it was doing that. He said it's got about 99K-109K miles on it and that he's only the second owner as far as he knows. So anyway, after talking to him for a bit I ask if we can come around and take a look at the car. He says okay, so we get the address and tell him we'll be over in a couple of hours.
We show up at 11pm (which I thought was kind of late, but he was nice about it) and as soon as we get a first glimpse of the car--I'm in heaven. It is soooo sweet! It's white, with FIERO and stripes along the side. We pass it up and make a u-turn to get to the house and this car just takes my breath away! After walking around and inspecting the body--which only has a few cracks here and there, but otherwise is in great shape--I go up and ring the doorbell and the guy comes out.
He opens the car and it starts right up on the first try. He says he hasn't driven it in about a week because of the overheating problem, and that before that it had been sitting around for about a year without being driven. Turns out he got the car as "payment" from someone else that he'd done some work for, so he decided to sell it to recoup his money. He let it run for awhile and it started to overheat a bit, but the headlights and everything worked great. He's going to put some new gas in it and clean it up a bit so I can come back and test drive it. He drove it forward and reverse a little ways, and it shifted smoothly and drove well. We talked him down to $600 and so I gave him a deposit on the spot to hold it for me. From what Exotic Rida and his buddy told me, the things that are wrong are minimal and could be fixed in a couple of weeks, so it's a great deal.
I sat in it and it, just, well---FIT--y'know? It's smaller than the GT and the notchback that I sat in before and feels more streamlined. I love the stripes and the FIERO name on the side. I'd never thought of doing that, but it makes the car look really cool, small and quick. I'm almost jumping up and down 'cause I can't believe I actually found a car so soon. I'd resigned myself to the fact that the earliest I'd be able to get one would be at least a month--now to come up on a steal like this is unbelieveable!
I got the VIN number--1G2PE11R0JP214194, but I didn't have my camera with me, so I'll take some pics and post them as soon as I get back over to arrange to have the car picked up. He still has to get the title and everything from the current owner, so we'll have to arrange everything after that. I'm so excited! I was set on having an '87 GT, but this '88 is so sweet! It had a wing (which is not there anymore, so I'll have to get a replacement), so I think it might be some type of coupe or formula. I don't know much about the styles of '88 Fieros that were made, and I don't know how to look up info. on the car to get the history. If anyone can help me out with any info, I'd appreciate it.

As my daughter would say, "Notchbacks Rule, Fastbacks Drool" or something like that.
Can't wait to see a picture of it. By the way, since you have the camera out anyway, snap one of yourself and include it with the car- you know that everyone will really start howling if you can post a picture of your new car yet try to remain anonymous... Here's mine...

I am very happy for you! The problem with the car overheating can be a couple of things. First thing is that the Fiero requires a special technique to get all the air out of the cooling system because the radiator is lower than the engine. You can have Exotic Rida show you how. If there is air in the system it could cause the engine to overheat. My car had many problems when I got it and overheating with a cool radiator was one of them. The cause was a plugged radiator. I took it out and had it "rodded out" which is a process of cleaning out the gunk that gets in there especially when it sits for a while. After the radiator was cleaned out like that the car ran cool in the AZ heat with the a/c on. Another thing that may be a problem is your radiator fan but it is less likely because the radiator would still get hot. The last thing I know of is that some of the water pump impellers are plastic and have a history of coming loose over time so the water does not flow. Oops, I forgot to mention the thermostat. If it is stuck it could cause the water not to flow even when the engine is warm and that would leave you with a hot engine and a cool radiator. The thermostat is very easy to remove and you could try running the car without it to rule it out as the problem. My guess is the guy who sold you the car has already tried that one. As many others have said, “welcome to the addiction!”

Wow, congrats. Sounds like you found a great deal. Can't wait to see some pics of it and good luck on that pesky overheating problem. We have run into that on a few of ours so I know what it is like to try and trace it down. On one it was a cracked/warped head which was the most involved but wasn't too bad.

I'm going to try and go over there today and take some pics. He said he was going to add some water to the cooling system, put some fresh gas in it and fire it up again, so maybe I'll get to drive it. It doesn't have any plates on it, so it's not registered and more than likely doesn't have any insurance either. I'll start checking into places on Monday to see where I can get all of that taken care of.
Thanks for the tips on the cooling problem. This guy isn't used to working on fieros (he's more into foreign cars) so he doen't know a whole lot about them and hasn't been able to figure out the problem. That works for me 'cause I'll get a better deal on it, but how difficult is it to fix the problem? Exotic Rida and the other guys are gonna help me out with it, but I do want to learn about the process myself so I can do some little things.
Oh, another thing I forgot to mention....we tried the headlights and they came and went down okay with the hood up, but wouldn't come up through the openings. I couldn't see what the problem was in the dark, so I'm hoping to get a closer look (and some pics) today. The trunk seemed okay from what I could see, and I felt a little water in the bottom--which probably came from the holes where the wing was supposed to be (they didn't close up the screw holes, so the rain had gotten in). The engine is the original one (a Volteck, I think he said?), along with the tires, rims and interior. The driver's side seat is a little ripped, but I've noticed that in alot of cars--I think it might have something to do with the way people have to get in and out because it's so low. The passenger side interior is spotless and the interior color is grey.
Now I'm faced with a bit of a dilemna. I had originally been set on a fastback GT and of course, painting it fuscia. Now this '88 notchback coupe is sooo sweet in white I don't know if I can bear to change it.
I'm really excited about this car! But I don't want to get too attached to it just yet, just in case something goes wrong. This guy still has to get the title from the owner (which I don't know how long that'll take) and given some of the posts I've been reading on problems people have run into with buying cars and not having the title, I'm a bit wary. The guy seems really nice and honest, but he didn't know alot about the history of the car. He'd basically just gone by what he'd been told. Is there a way any of you guys know to check out the history of a car if you're not the owner?

Borrowed a car to go over and take some pictures a little earlier. The guy wasn't at home so I spoke to his wife and she let me take the pics. She didn't have the key, so I couldn't get pics of the engine or drive it then.
Here's a pic from across the street:
I just got off the phone with the guy and am going to go over and try to take a test drive in a bit. I have to go over before it gets dark, so gotta run. I'll post more when I get back.

The perfect platform for a whole pile of mods and an engine swap. It already has nearly all of the desirable suspension pieces, and won't horrify the "purists" who believe that 88 Formulas and GTs ought to be left stock, placed upon a pedestal and worshipped from afar.
Mine started life as an 88 coupe. It's the one in the background in this pic.
Looks like this, now. Closer to the edge than some. More understated than others...
Good luck with your project. Pics are always good.

I think Miss-Tress is correct. I own 2-88's, 2-87's and an 85GT. I'm 6'3" and the 88's do not have as much leg room as the 85 and 87's. The 88's are great and almost have power steering. Oh, thanks for the VIN, it wasn't in the 88DB.
I personally hate those tres 80's dealer installed stripes, but 3M remover will take 'em off,

yeh, those stripes sorta bother me as well, my car has gold ones on it currently, very small, and the fenders i bought for a project (not telling!) had about 6 inches high of 1/4 inch pin striping.. it was ugly and took forever to get off..

I went by and got a chance to take some pics on Sunday afternoon. I was afraid that I'd see some really raunchy stuff in the daylight, but the car was still cool-looking. lol There's some cosmetic stuff that needs to be done to the body and interior, but I'm sure it won't take much to repair. Here they are....
The trunk seems to be in good shape. There was a little water in the bottom that came in from the holes in the trunk lid where the wing used to be. It looked like someone just yanked the wing off instead of unscrewing it, so the holes in the trunk were bigger than normal.
Here's the engine---I think it's safe to say that it's the original one. (Just a bit on the dusty side.)
This is a pretty cool angle...
A collage of the interior repairs..... The console needs alot of work, and I need to replace the headliner and driver's seat, but the passenger side seems okay.

The last picture above was of the inside repairs that I need to have done. Anyone have any suggestions on how I replace the center console? I was kind of surprised that the storage area had warped as much as it did. Is that normal?
