im in south orange county and probably gonna have to work that morning but if I can get the address of where you are meeting for dinner I might be able to make it up for that (I would love to be able to make it but work is what pays for the repairs and gas) just a question from a n0ob.
Newbs are more then welcome. That would be a long-ass haul for dinner, though. We're talking probably a 5-6 hour trip each way. As far as dinner goes, we'll be headed to Jardins de San Juan at 111Third Street, but one's best bet is to meet up over at the hotel around 4 or 5. We'll be doing a big lunch and probably do dinner at 7 ish.

Thats Jardines. For convenience sake I'm thinking everybody just get there own table. It's a big place, but yea, 1 waitress was hugely overworked. It was cool that everyone just pretty much chilled and waited 20 min to pay their check. But hey, that could happen anywhere. I'm going to call them and warn them that we're coming.

I'm thinking of driving down from San Jose. Is there a list of the activities/agenda/etc? Is there going to be a car showing, swap meet, tech session, etc? If I knew what the approx times/events I can better decide when to drive down. I might have a few things to sell too.

Wow, Larry, you must think I'm some kind of over-acheiver. Nothing as structured as that.
Here's the scoop. from about 9:00 am on, fierobear and I will be standing in the parking lot talking about anything but politics. We'll be standing around chatting with people and swapping lies as everyone shows up. By about 10:30 we'll be rounding everyone up to get them on the same page as far as the route, and I'll share some of my wisdom about the road and talk about proper driving etiquette for those who think they are immortal.
Around 11:00 we should be ready to motor. We will wind up in Coalinga in about an hour and a half for lunch at Red Robin. After a suitable amount of time gabbing in the parking lot and looking at each others cars we'll head back to San Juan Bautista. I personally plan to go for a swim in the pool til about 6, then get ready for dinner. PS, Janell, I'm using your bathroom to change in. Thanks!
About 6:30-7 we'll walk down to Jardines, about a 4 block walk. Drive if you must, but don't drink their yummy peach margaritas if you're driving home. Last year we closed the place, and I plan on doing it again this year.
So, no trophies, goodie bags, or dash plaques. No tech sessions other then swapping secrets about each others cars. If you got stuff to sell, go ahead and bring it down. Shine up your cars, and let's go get bug guts on em!

Almost! Just a clutch arm, air filter, and some exhaust welds away! May have to drive the run in open loop, but I think it'll survive.. just bring those gas cans

Going on a dry run tomorrow, Check back tomorrow night for new pictures.
One thing I'd like to bring up, having seen some scary things on Fiero runs due to some peoples driving, is that we obey posted speed limits. It's going to be a nice day with great scenery, and gas is expensive. If you do feel like you wish to travel at an illegal pace, please identify yourself when we're getting lined up. You can travel at the front. Remeber this is ranching country, and there can easily be a truck pulling out around the corner. Also the road is very popular with motorcyclists, please be courteous to them and allow them to pass.

Hey stimpy, we were going at a great pace last year. But I can't recall if that was within the speed limit or not. Can we do it again? Please? Pretty please? I'll buy you a biscuit..

The speed limit in the twisties is 55. If you can do 55 through the curves it going to feel pretty exciting. The long straights I leave to an individuals judgement on what they want to do, but I think that the speed limit allows for some spirited driveing.
One other thing, there are some areas where the road is marked as safe to pass, and they aren't necessarily safe. Never pass on a solid line, and pass on the broken line only if you can see a good 500 feet or so.
Is it just me or do those old porshes look more and more like Volkswagon bugs as they are farther away. It looks like they are morphing.

Basically that weekend is the Vintage Racing. The lap is a parade lap or two, and there are plenty of spaces left. If someone wants to go represent Fieros with me, the tickets to the racing is $25 and the lap is an extra $20. Scott?

I emailed fierobear the links and info so he can get in contact with people in Golden Gate Fieros. Heres the jist of it for everyone reading along at home.
During the weekend of April 30-May 1, the US Sports Car Invitational is being held at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway outside Monterey, CA. On Sunday, May 1 (the day after the Rally), 150 cars will be allowed to make at least 1 Parade Lap on the race track before the races. The requirements are: -All drivers must be at least 18 years old. -All drivers must have a street legal vehicle. -All drivers must have a vaild drivers license. -All participants must have a ticket to the races ($25) -All drivers must pay $20 to participate in the parade lap. -All passengers must wear seatbelts.
We must arrive at the staging area in the Lakebed by Turn 5 between 9 and 10 AM Sunday morning. The Parade Lap will begin at 10:30 AM. I have no idea how many laps we get. MapQuest is not cooperating with me, so I am forced to guess, but I'd say it will take about 2 hours to get from San Juan Bautista to Laguna Seca, which means we should leave SJB by 8 AM Sunday at the latest. Stimpy may know the drive time better.
Additionally, Marque Madness is holding a Car Corral at the races that weekend. Here's what I've managed to find out. -Any car club can enter and display their cars. -The base cost to do so is $150. -There does not appear to be a deadline to register. -I DO NOT know if you can do it just 1 day. -In addtion to the base fee, you can add on a multitude of options, one of which is to have your Car Club take its own Parade Lap and get pictures taken of your cars on the Cork Screw. Additional $40.
I don't think the Car Corral is going to work out, but I think we can definately get some people down Sunday morning for the Parade Lap. Stimpy and I are already planning to do so, and everyone else who wants to get up early and drive down is welcome and encouraged to represent the Fiero at the races.

--> There will be 1 escorted lap around the track.
--> Here is the link to purchase your race ticket and Parade Lap slot online. I'm buying mine as I type this. You want the Sunday Super ticket under "Admission" ($25) and the Fan Parade Lap ticket ($20) under "Parade Lap"
Because we're buying tickets so late, we have to pick them up at Will Call. Thing is, Will Call is NOT at the track. It is at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Seaside. The hotel is right off Highway 1 in Seaside, you can't miss it. Its the only building taller than 2 stories. THIS MEANS EXTRA DRIVING TIME! We will have to leave San Juan Bautista, drive south to Salinas, take the 183 out to Castroville and take 1 south to Seaside and pick up our tickets. Then, we'll need to head down 1 south to Monterey and out 68 east to Laguna Seca. This is a round about way of getting to the track, but I don't see any other options, unless people want to pick up their tickets another day (you can pick them up starting Thursday 28th).

$150 for the Car Corral?! Maybe for Rally Through the Valley 3.
SJB really isn't that far, but traffic may be heavy. But sports car racing doesn't get the NASCAR crowds. I'd say an 8 oclock departure from SJB would be prudent.

Even with the detour to Seaside to pick up our tickets first? Don't forget traffic getting into the track, 68 is only a 2 lane road. On the other hand, you're right, its not NASCAR or something.

We'll probably enter on Del Rey Oaks Blvd. The heaviest traffic will be on 1 between Watsonville and Seaside. That still moves at a good pace unless there is an accident.

One of the perks in getting a club involved in the Marque Madness is a paced tour of the course at a "brisk" pace, but slower then a High Performance Driving Experience. Helmets are required. This is the first year for the Marque Madness, maybe a local club will step in and pony up the bucks for it. $150.

Don't forget, pokey, that Bear and Brian are working on various track days this year, including one at Laguna Seca.
Actually, this year is at Thunder Hill, northwest of Sacramento. We could do events at Laguna Seca or Infineon (Sears Point), but we'd have to charge $279/day for a midweek (thursday) date. Those tracks are mucho expensive to book.
