Hey Harry I sent you an e-mail.
I will need a drivers side front fender, front and back bumpers, front hood, headlight doors and markerlights.
I can get the steel and head light brackets I need off my 84 parts car.
Tell me what you want for the body parts and I will pass it to the insurance adjuster.
If they total the car I still want to fix it.

Well the insurance adjuster was just here.
They totaled the car and will be doing a market value for central Florida to find out how much the car is worth.
The blue book is $1400 to $1800 according to the adjusters book but I’m going to have to wait and see what they offer me.
I told the guy that I was not going to let them take the car, they can make all the offers they want to, I know what a wrecked Fiero is worth and what My Fiero was worth to me. They guy that was out here did all he could do to let me know it was not worth much. I’m holding out for $2800 but if they offer me $1800 and I get to keep the car then I will be happy. I had an offer of $2400 last year and I guess I should have took it.
Harry I will know in a few days, if I do get your car I will have to find out how I’m going to get it home.
I hope I don’t end up in court.

Well its a waiting game now. I hope to get enough money out of them to buy Harrys car and fix or replace mine with it.
They offered me blue book but that would not cover the cost of Harrys car and a paint job.
I want to fix this car so bad is hurts.
I also have my V8 project that I want to get finished and cant.
I have even been thinking of putting the V8 in the SE and leave the GT the way it is because it drives fine I just have fix some little things. Im just glad I have a car to drive and didnt start the swap as soon as I was going to.
See lazyness pays off. (sometimes)

hey jake, i got your PM but i dont have time to reply right now, i have to go to work. i get off pretty late so i'll shoot you one after work. i'll tell you about some of the ways i came to determin the value of my car and did not just go by blue book value. also, sice the insurance company can see the car, they can get a good idea of how the conditon was before the accident (looking at paint, ect) with mine, all the judge had to go by was pictures (not that it would have mattered). but yeah, i'll shoot you a PM later tongith (after 1AM my time)

sorry to hear abotu the car though, it sucks. and what you said about those hooks.........OUCH!!!!!! take care

I’m so pissed.
Looks like they are going to only offer me $800 for the car and let me keep it.
I’m screwed because I don’t have a receipt for the motor so it doesn’t count for the value of the car.
The said they wont do market value for the car, I told them to look on autotrader and find me one that is listed for $1000 then go buy it for me.
They wont total the car I am free to repair it and start driving it.
They are going to pay me for loss of use of the car but didn’t tell me how much that would be.

Harry if they only give me $800 then I wont be able to buy your car.
I will have to fix it with the parts I have.

This sucks, let this be a warning to you if you have worked on your car you need to have it appraised. You can bet that I will be doing that when I finish my V8 swap.

Well I had a manual with all of my receipts in it, I cant find it anywhere. I have looked all over and cant find the book.
I can probably get copies of the stuff I bought off of Rodney and the Fiero store. But AutoZone doesn’t keep sales on record for more than a year so I am out the almost $300 I spent on injectors.
Now I have to clean the mess up I made of the house looking for the receipts.
I wander if I can turn in the receipt for the stereo and sub woofer.
I have to come up with as much as I can so they will value the car for more than the book price they are looking at.

How do they think they are going to get off not giving you market value for the vehicle? Wreck was not your fault... person responsible is the person that hit you. I think I'd slap a small claims court case against him instantly for market value of vehicle ( plus tax, title, registration, rental, pain and suffering) then let his insurance company explain to him/her why they won't haven't taken care of the problem.

Since he had insurance... you should file claim against both. I bet they settle a lot faster once served. Move the power out of their hands, put THEM on the defensive. Then you can let a judge decide if a replacement fiero is worth what a replacement fiero costs, rather than what they want to pay. Start collecting comparative vehicles, don't use ones the insurance company may supply. Remember... it's not your insurance company paying, do NOT play nice.

Thanks Scott
I just want enought to buy the parts car off of Harry and get it painted and put it on the road again. Tax, tag and title.
The will come to about $1300 and I still have to do all of the work.
They are still going to have to pay me for loss of use of the car and for my day off.

Florida sucks, we have a no fault on the medical part of car insurance and I will probably have to go after the guy for my medical deductable.

Got your msg earlier tonight. I'm in California for the week so can't get with you till next week. Have you decided if your car is repairable? After seeing another post on here tonight about installing T-tops, I'm seriously thinking of pulling the roof off that car. If I do that, I will make you a super deal on the rest of the car so you would have pratically all you need for repairs for damn near nothing. Try to work out your problems with the insurance & we'll talk. Harry

That sounds great, give me a call or shoot me an e-mail when you get back in town.

Insurance slams the door and Harry opens a window, PFF is great!

I talked to my insurance company today. They wont officially give me advice but the girl on the phone told me to tell them I was going to seek legal advice and call the insurance commission.
I’m going to call them tomorrow and make them an offer.
$1400 -the $200 salvage would give me $1200 to fix the car.
If they don’t do that them I will see what it will cost to consult with a lawyer.

Ok as soon as the receipts from the Fiero Store come in I will have around $400 worth of new parts.
I have a print out off of NADA where an average Fiero is priced at $1825.
I am having trouble finding a listing for an 86SE V6 4 speed. I will keep trying, I did find a few GTs and Coups for around $2800 - $3600. But no SE V6 Fieros.
I called and made them an offer of $1400 so I don’t think I’m too out of line.
The biggest thing to me is to get the car fixed and I should have all the parts for around $400 materials will cost another $100 and I already have a frame donor for the front and rear bumper and crumple zones.
That will leave me $900 they want $200 salvage for the car so that will leave $700 for paint.
I should be able to get a 10 foot paint job for that.
If anyone sees any SE V6 Fieros for sale please post me a link
Thanks
Jake

What did they offer you for pain and suffering? I would get to the doctors office about that constant headache, maybe run a cat scan. The higher the medical bills the more they give you for pain and suffering, It use to be 3 times the medical bills for pain and suffering.

This is the first time I have ever been on this side of an insurance claim.
I had to have a cat scan and x-rays. I have not been offered any pain and suffering.
I have been offered pay for the loss of use of the car and the day off work.
It sucks and I don’t want to end up in front of a judge but if they don’t bring up the offer for my car it will end up in court.

Keep fighting Jake! I had to file a separate claim for additional damage done to my car while they had it in their possession. My interior had items "borrowed" and it looks like they tried to tow it from the rear and dragged my front bumper the entire way! OR They tried to tow it from the front and scraped up the bottom and cracked paint off the front fascia...and cracked the drivers side quarter panel. I had to do that through MY insurance company so they will be fighting it out...never the less dont give up!

Ok I got what I wanted out of them. I get to keep the car and fix it.
I had to use the L word and sent over $400 of recipts for parts I installed.
I have to send them a copy of my title to prove I own the car but then we are done.
They still are going to give me some money for pain and suffering but that is another claim.

Well lots of things happening. I settled the property damage for $1475 and paid them $200 for the car.
I could have fought for more but I just want to move on.
The parts from Harry are not going to work out, his car is an SE but it has bumper pads. I already have front and rear fascias with pads so there is no point buying his when I already have my own. I also have to replace one of the fenders and front hood.
My parts car has more rust on it then I realized and I will not be able to use the front metal bumper or any of the front metal. I think I can just patch the damage on my car and weld in some patches.
Now looking at the bumper has made me think, do I really want to try and clean up those two rusty bumpers or should I fabricate some new bumpers out of some square 1½ tubing. The biggest reason I was thinking of doing this was the front fascia could then be opened up and let more air into the radiator. I have a pretty beefy V8 going into it and I need all the air flow I can get. Plus it would be stronger than the stock bumper but still give should I hit something.
I was also thinking of doing the same thing in the back. That would solve two problems and also help protect me better if something happens again.
Anyway I will start a rebuild thread sometime this week once I get rid of my parts car.

Had a similar accident about 18 months back. Was sitting at an off ramp waiting to pull out and a lady in a Ford Expedition hit me at maybe 10 MPH. Broke both taillights, ripped the fascia mounts and spiderwebbed the paint. Her insurance company wanted to settle for about $700.00, which they thought was the value of the car, (85 GT)
Had their body shop estimate of $2300.00 which included trunk damage and damage to the upper quarter panel. They then offered $950.00 which they claimed was blue book. They would then total the car which I was still driving. Florida has some strange rules about totaling cars and I did not want a salvage title. I was very adamant and had an attorney friend talk to them. I only wanted the $950 KBB and a clear title. I ended up with $1499.99 which was 1 cent short of the salvage title limit. Your damage was worse but you did good keeping the car and getting close to the max. Hope you get your's back together soon.

Good to know that Fieros are "good" in accidents. Good luck with the car. It doesn't looks bad as I thought it would; I assume the damage is pretty much all cosmetic, engine ,frame and suspension ok, right. How fast were they going when they hit you? Glad you're ok.

I had to replace a lot of metal but it is fixed.
The suspension is fine, that is one thing the fiero has is crush zones.
The speed limit was 45 and I bet he was doing all of it.
When he hit me it pushed me up into the SUV in front of me.
I missed one day of work. The person in front of me was off work for 7 days but I think she was stretching it out.
There is not a car I would rather be in in an accadent.
