I am the owner of the only Fiero Convertible built by ASC for GM consideration. This car is beautiful custom Red, with 85 GT bumpers and is actually titled (1984), Car has less than 300 miles and has tan soft top. Convertible mechanisim is just like that of the Corvettes of that era. I am looking for any information that any one out there may have to help document my car. I will try and post photos in Gallery. Thanks

prowlerfan,

Welcome to PFF. I think I know you from a transaction we did on an 85GT back in 2003. I would like to talk to you about your car. I heard about your car from Lou from the Michigan Fiero Club. I am sending you a PM with my e-mail.

Mark

Go to the bottom of the screen and use the PIP program. Or if you have your own web space yo can host the pictures yourself and place them in using the image tags

there are a few people here who can run a carfax on it for you. i realize it won't offer very much on that car but it would be interesting to have.

I'm very familiar with that car, but don't have much information for you other than what the owner at the time shared with me. I was told it was built by ASC to try to sell the convertible concept to GM. GM didn't go for it (obviously). Beyond that, he was pretty vague about it's history, other than the fact it lived on the show circuit for many years.

The top is based off the Corvettes of that era, and the moulding that runs down the side and is moulded into the trunk is based off the Camaro convertibles of that era. They did quite a nice job integrating everything together, making the latch mechanisms for the lids, modifying the decklid, etc...Definitely a professional and top-notch job.

There is a second cover under the main cover that the top stowes under that lifts for access to the forward half of the motor. I personally know that when you have both of those covers open, you're wedged between them working on it, and the main cover falls and hits your head, it hurts pretty bad.

This car spent a week or so at The Fiero Factory. The owner at the time had just purchased it, and it wasn't running on all 4 cylinders. I found a bent pushrod, due to a stuck valve. Un-stuck the valve, and replaced the pushrod, and she ran great. I'm proud *and* ashamed to say, at the request of the owner to check out the car, I test drove it. I "own" 2.8 of the ~300 miles that are on the car. Somewhat odd to think I put [edit 'cause I'm an idiot] 1% [/edit cause I'm an idiot] of the miles on that car! Kindof an ill feeling, watching the odometer roll on a car with that few miles on it. (and, notably, probably one of the shortest test drives I've EVER taken...)

Yes, the side mouldings are rounded. They are NOT the factory round mouldings; they have actually been filled in and shaped.

Quite a unique and interesting car. I took some pictures of it while it was at the shop; I'll bring them home tomorrow and post them, and let you know the timeframe it was there if the pics are dated.

Take care, welcome to the forum, and congrats on a unique one to add to your collection!

Jeremy B.

C'mon Jeremy.....your math skills aren't *that* bad, are they?? You only "own" ~1% of those 300 miles.

2.8/300=.009 or .9%

Jeremy B. THANK YOU for the information regarding my car. I have probably owned 20+ Fieros including 2 other Convertibles (Red Automoda with S.D. 4 cyl. and a Maroon 87 owned by a Canadian member now with 3.8 in it I believe) and other low mileage 88's etc. but this is the gem. I purchased late in the year and tucked it away in the bubble (don't like them) for the winter. I owned a red 88 or 89 Grand Prix Convertible Prototype also built by ASC that I purchased from an ASC employee. I look forward to displaying this Fiero this summer. I am nervous about the cables used to release top and rear deck. Rear deck is a tight fit and if I break a cable......I have a project! Thanks!

Welcome to the foum! I've seen that car before, and it is beutiful! Glad to see it went to a good home.

I see you're from Grand Rapids, are you part of the West Michigan Fiero Club? You also mentioned having owned 20 Fieros, did you ever own this one? It was a Grand Rapids car for a long time. I bought it from Shane Bearss.

Didn't own any red 84's. Most were 88' low mileage GT's, and other low mileage GT's from 86 and 87. Had a few pace cars and formulas.West Mich. fiero Club ...thought it was gone now. Went to a few meetings maybe 10 years ago and that's it. Anyway, good luck and enjoy that car.

ASC designed the Corvette Convertible for 86 and you can see that design in my Fiero also. Windows actually seal very well with top up too!

Welcome to PFF, would this be your previous baby?

It now resides in the GTA area and is well taken car of. You could not have sold the fiero to another person that would treat the car the way Lothar does. I'll put him at the top of the list of any car pampering competion! You have to see the car to believe it!

YES!! That was one of the 2 other convertible Fieros I have owned. Still looks great. prior to my ownership, the interior had been beautifully done in leather.

Glad I could help, just wish I had more details for you. I'll post those pics tonight.

I agree about the cables; it's a good design, but not much "safety net" there. You do know the top cover releases much easier if you push down on he center of it while you're pulling the lever, don't you?

Take it easy---

I quick took some photos before putting in the bubble, so until winter departs here in Michigan, will probably be a while before any more good outdoor photos can be taken. I do have some of the top compartment which is quite unique. This top really had some engineering to get it to fold down so flat. The rear decklid was made with vents to help cool engine.

Well, here's the pics we have. Sorry about the quality; never buy a HP camera.

Oddly enough, half of the pics look like the car is orange, the other half look almost burgundy. It's definitely a quite bright red, though.

Take care---
