Well, I just got finished replacing the clutch pedal on my Fiero.
The one on the right is the new one from the Fiero store. Here's an exerpt from the Fiero store website:
Most Fieros were equipped with clutch pedals that were a combination of aluminum and steel. Over time, that pedal will flex or bend, preventing full clutch disengagement. Our new all steel aftermarket pedal will last longer than the original factory design and will provide full clutch disengagement. Your Fiero will also shift and find gears more easily.
the left one is definitely bent. curious thing is, the U bracket is the part that bends, and it's steel. i expeect they'll bend eventually too, maybe the old one can be straightened and reinforced?

I noticed a big difference after the swap.
the old one doesn't look bent at all.. maybe just worn on the bearing surfaces..
the U bracket actually looks stronger on the old one than the new - but looks can be deciving when you are talking a matter of steal grades..
my 84 bent in the steel part. i welded some "gussets" in. and with my stiffer clutch it has held up well. i also switched to some ball bearings for r/c cars for the pivot. couldnt tell much difference except they dont squeak

I just took my new pedal from the Fiero Store out of the box and to my surprise the U is bent. It is an 1/8 inch wider at the top then at the bottom. Am I going to have the same problems with it that I have with my current one? If so, how good is the Fiero Store at correcting things like this?
The "shaft" on the clutch pedal is supposed to be shaped a little bent. As you can see by my picture, the stock pedal is almost bent sideways. That's why the actual bottom piece is facing so far to the left. The faces of the pedals should both be facing the same direction seeing as though they are laying flat side-by-side...

That is where it bends, in 2 different directions, because the "L" bracket where the master cylinder rod attaches is not centered when the force is being applied. If it was centered like the brake pedal they would never bend.
Another thing to note... the Fiero Store clutch pedal replacement is a dissappointment. The thickness of metal is much thinner than OEM, and looks paper thin next to the brake pedal. Aside from looks, the Fiero Store pedal is much better than a bent GM pedal. Maybe if it's stonger steel it will last longer, nobody knows.
The best pedal you can buy is the original GM "replacement pedal" which is no longer avaiable. They made several improvements to it with added strength. Best place to find one is on eBay, they pop up once and a while...
Funny thing...I was walking through the wrecking yard, looking at some Fieros, and found a perfectly good clutch pedal, already pulled and laying on the floor of one of the cars. No bends...they charged me $5 for it.
