I finally made it back home this morning.
Jane left Ruckus in her Fiero Sunday afternoon, going south to San Antonio to visit a friend, then on back to San Angelo that evening-no problems.

I left at the same time and went East to my father's place for a week of chainsaws, removing fallen trees, rebuilding fences, and MREs. Consequences of hurricane Rita. We had electricty thanks to crews from as far away as Kansas, but the grocery stores haven't restocked their perishables yet since some of the powerline repairs are temporary and short lived outages occured several times while I was there.

Left last night around 9pm and pulled into my parking spot this morning at 4:30, after a flawless 400+ mile return trip. Full moon, on a clear October night, so I stowed the sunroof up front, and turned the heater on low. Moon out my window and constellation Orion overhead, made for a great drive home after a really hard week's 'vacation'.

I left my father's with a full tank of gas, planning on filling up just west of Austin, near Spicewood, but was surprised to find that station closed. Had 1/4 tank, and contemplated backtracking to Austin but decided to try for Llana, 62 miles away. I had never let it get below 1/4 tank before, so wasn't sure how accurate it was. Made it to Llano by driving no faster than 60 mph, keeping the rpm around 2500, and the pump turned off at 7.4 gallons with 249 miles showing on the tripmeter. Evidently the gas gage is not accurate, but errs with a few gallons left when the gage shows empty. Not bad at all considering the 1st 50 miles was stop & go traffic getting thru Conroe and all the little towns with their football game crowds. Nearly 34 mpg. The 84 ran perfectly the entire trip. Nearly 1000 miles in total, including all the running around I did in East Texas. Adding Jane's mileage on her 84, we drove over 1500 trouble free miles. Not bad for two 20 yr old cars, both daily drivers.

A good show this year-as always--with a good turnout. Thanks Heidi, Ken, Blake, and that other person-forget his name right now.

Don, you are lucky that you have a couple of gallons with showing empty. Most Fiero gauges will show 1/4 with no gas in the tank.

Ever since my evacuation experience I won't pass up a gas station if I have less than 1/2 a tank. I'm glad to hear that your 84s are running great. I've had people tell me 84s make lousy daily drivers, but I intend to make my Indy my daily driver. There is still more work before that's possible though.

Yep--Jane's is like that, and she doesn't get as good mpg with her automatic as I do with the 4 spd, so I have to always remind her to get gas.

We've had little trouble with our 84s and Jane has had her's as a daily driver since '95 or '96. We replaced the engine 2 yrs ago, with 155,000 miles and the usual brakes, fuel pump, ign module etc along the way. Both of ours had all the recalls done before we acquired them.
I do know her brakes got pretty hot coming down off that hill leaving the river site, but she says they haven't given her any trouble. And Jonathon, she is HARD on that car!! Those 3 spd autos must be nearly bulletproof.
I have some 84 specific parts laying about if you need anything. Mostly electrical, like rad fan resistors and relays. The extra relays you see on the firewall are for the rear turn sigs btw.

This will probably be our last get together taking 2 cars tho. Gas is just too high and it is a pain getting 2 of them cleaned up from their daily grind.

I didn't take the picture, but got a copy of it from fellow NTFC member Tim. Here's a cropped and resized copy of the picture:
