I locked my keys in the freaking trunk, I was checking the oil, sat the keys on the motor, shut the hood, then cussed. Is there anyway to get in without stripping the latch/lock?

Shake the car back and forth and hope they fall... I'd say hit the trunk release buttton, but thats too obvious that you don't have that option, lol

It's cheaper to call the lock smith than to damage your lock/deck.

I tried shaking the crap out of it, my wife thought i was loving my car to much from the kitchen window, where are the trunk release button at? I didnt know fieros had that option. I might go to the junk yard and pull/install one after this.

If you know exactly where you laid them down on the engine at.........?? Jack the car up, put jack stands under it, climb under it and with a clothes hanger that you have bent with a hook on the end.......... go fish. I like the lock smith idea, especially at 10 PM at night if your planning on driving the car to work in the morning. I am not going to ask where the second set of keys are at. You could ask the wife if she will loan you her set and just go out and unlock it???? Good Luck.

good thinking, are the trunk releases by the gas pull, those who have that option???

If that doesnt work I guess the jack stands are the only option. Thanks for the ideas!

No. The trunk releases were up on the dash. Just to the right of the steering wheel. Right above the rear defrost button. BUT, if your car didn't have it to begin with then it won't work, as you don't have a solenoid in back. It's not cable driven, it's all electronic.

Only 84's need to have the key turned to START to press the trunk release.

on my 87 GT the trunk pop only works when the car is off, or if the car is on, the E-brake has to be on. It's to prevent opening the rear decklid by accident while driving i'm guessing. I've done this same thing, but i have a mustang scoop so i just stuck a wire hangar through the opening and pushed em off, reached under the car and grabbed em. Locksmith is the best Idea if you don't have a spare set or the power trunk release

On my automatic it only pops if it is in Neutral or Park. Doesn't matter if the car is on or off. I'm guessing your car is manual, then I think, like Disillusion said, you have to have the e-brake on.

Maybe he just hates fieros... I don't see why they can't be... I've picked other cars (My own ) I would seriously be pissed at a locksmith that wanted to do that...

This is some info that Freshfiero (Gary) pasted on to me some time ago, I hope your car is not an 84..... hope it helps. Make sure you give Gary the credit if it does.

Topic: Re: G.M. has 85 but not 84 key codes on file.....

Hop, a key code is the the number g.m. assigns the lock cylinder for each car, you'll just need to give the local pontiac dealer the vin and they can cross refrence that number and cut you neww keys. its that simple. I lost my keys and they were able to make me new original gm keys. also I'm freshfiero on aol. i m me some time we'll talk fiero's. -gary-

Good thinking. Many GM door keys will fit the lock and it is worth trying.

I remember a thread where someone took the antenna off their Fiero, pried out the glass in the door slightly (there is some give) and used the antenna to push the switch. Just a sugg
<EDIT> I moved the battery to the front compartment, and left something on in the car to run the charge out and couldn't pop the trunk to get the jumper cables out of the back. The lock in the back doesn't really work well, so I had to use the battery trickle charger until it had enough volts to pop the trunk so I could get them out. Now they reside up front.

Best advice.....keep only a door key hidden on the car somewhere you can get to. I hide extra ign key inside somewhere else.

the electric release is supposed to work only with the car off. Thats so some idiot dont accidently pop it open driving down the freeway.

I was a locksmith apprentice in a previous life.
IIRC, it may be possible to pick it but it's waaaaay more difficult than a regular lock, due to the construction of the tumblers, and the rest of the lock.

Won't work. GM purged the key database for anything older than mid 90's stuff.

Id you pop the weather stripping off the window will give you enough room to get to the locks, but you dont have a push button trunk release so that wouldnt really work, but I locked my keys in my fiero 3 nights in a row once, dont ask me how or why, and yes I was sober, but I figure out how to get the window to pry open, I dont think the weather stripping is supposed to pop off like mine did but it did *shrug*

Good Luck,

Did you have to show any proof it was your car? How much does it cost? I think that is the route I am going to have to do, after jacking it up this afternoon i couldnt get anything past the battery to fish around.

You won't be able to pick the lock yourself, the design is called sidebar. In order to pick the lock you need to put pressure on the sidebar, compared to being able to apply turning pressure as you would with a normal lock. There are tools that enable locksmiths to do this (I am one) however not everyone has these.
Your options: pull out a door cylinder and take it to a locksmith (it will be the same as the trunk unless something has been replaced)
call a locksmith to do this for you.
you could just drill out the lock and replace it, but you need to know how to do this or you'll just make a mess. And then if you want your original key to work you'll have to pay someone to do that for you, so it's not what I would call cost effective.
I would just take the door lock to a locksmith, it shouldn't cost you that much (I don't charge much more than $15, canadian).

hope that helps, let me know if I can give you any more pointers
