They went on earlier today - I was going to clean the car up and take some nice pics... but the battery was shot (is only 65 Cranking Amps bad on a battery that is supposed to have 700?).
So after a $70 trip to checker, the car starts & runs properly again - but the lighting outside had gotten pretty dark... so this is as good as it gets today. Maybe better pics tomorrow if the weather is nice again!
Up close they fit "OK" (pretty much as expected) - but overall they look great!

Thanks guys... I'm hoping to get some better pics tomorrow if the weather is nice - then it won't be much longer before the car is tucked away for the winter!

ah yes, the annual sleep they go into. i hope we dont have snow there by thanksgiving since my car goes down on the patio under the deck, and i really dont feel like snowblowing the yard!
hey, heres an idea for shots, get some industrial type shots, or something with graphiti in the background. hmmm.... or a bridge..... damnit, i gotta get back to homework

I hope you got to drive your car a bit this past weekend! Thankfully we didn't really get the snow they expected earlier in the week.

I managed to take my car out for a quick pre-storage wash & some pics... I tried to find a few new locations - I'd have taken some more "unique" ones, but without the sun and with the cold wind... it just wasn't worth standing around too much!
A Nice "finished" shot of the new quarter window scoops
Fresh from the car wash
Something a bit more "industrial" (by request) btw - I really do like these... Black Dawg Power Station
And one of the only "night" shots that turned out (I forgot to grab the tripod)
I've gotten to drive the car all of a mile around the block. it is sitting in the garage right now waiting to have the leaves cleaned off it and washed so i can put it into storage.i was pretty inpressed when i went to start it. i had unhooked the battery, but not removed it. after hooking up the battery it cranked and fired right up. makes you feel good when that happens. ive got the whole week to get it put away for the winter i dont think im going toput it away till i get my new toy and shoot up the car
i like this style shot. where did you take it? its pretty cool!

What are you getting? I shot these with an Olympus EVOLT E-300 8MP Digital we have at the office... it's nice, but I'd still prefer to get a Canon Digital EOS (it's more user-friendly from my experience, and I've already got a couple of EOS lenses that I could use with it).
It's some sort of pump house that's attached to the Black Dog Power Plant. Black Dog Road runs between 35W & Cedar Ave on the south side of the Minnesota River... it's a little rough twisty backroad getting there, but there (and over by the Cedar Ave bridge) are a number of cool locations.
I'd really like to trek over to Koch Refinery someday to see if there are any cool photo ops there... it certainly looks cool from a distance!

What happened to the fitment issues ??? Those things look great !
Thanks! They're still there (the pics I sent you were extreme close ups to illustrate the small problems... but as you can see, you'll never notice them unless you're that close)

Yep, I know right where that powerplant is. I've shot pictures before under the cedar bridge. People use to race on black dog road. Im not sure how much they do now, becasue of how rough it is. I cant imagine doing 90+ down that road.
I am about 95% decided on the Nikon D50 over the Pentax ist DL. Both at 6.1 MP. I spent a good hour or 2 at National Ccamera yesterday talking to the guys and playing with the cameras. Definatly both very nice cameras, but i think that the Nikon is a little less confusing in the menu options and different settings, and the range of lenses avalible is pretty crazy also. The canon is a nice camera to but just a little more than i want to spend. Cant really go wrong with any of them.
yes, i definatly want to go over to the refinery also. have you ever shot it in a parking ramp? it gives it a cool lighting effect

I definitely wouldn't race there now... I nearly bottomed out the Fiero in a couple of places just doing the posted 50mph speed limit (west of the power plant). Ouch! I assume that some of the flooding a few years back probably did quite a number of the road surfaces.

True - I have a friend who recently picked up the Nikon (and I've been giving him "pointers" on using it to take pics at ProKart) - it's an excellent camera.
I've only snapped a couple of pics in parking ramps... I never seem to remember my tripod when I'm just running out to snap some pics. I have been waiting for the right opportunity to get a good photo of the car in a deserted lot under a street lamp. I had a blurry (free handed shot w/telephoto lens) photo like that which I shot a number of years ago, and have always wanted to recreate it properly!

Yeah, I really like night shots. I've got a couple of the SVT under the street lights(all on film, not scanned in), but not really of the fiero (a few in front of different businesses at night). For the longest time, I just had my tripod riding around with me wherever I went in the car. you could just buy a cheap tripod to keep in the car, for those occations when you might forget. Come on Rob, get your act together! jk

I used to keep my Canon EOS Rebel (including a 2nd lens & a tripod) in my car all the time... but since things have gone so digital lately (and I don't drive the Fiero as frequently), I find myself not wanting to spend the money on film developing (it ended up costing me nearly $70 at Proex to develop 4 rolls of film after we got back from the Nextel Cup race at Bristol this past summer - 4x6, duplicates, & images burned to CD).
Doing that on a regular basis will pay my way to a digital body pretty quickly!

Yep, some idiots still do race on Black Dog, and for some stupid reason they usually do it at night, at least they did a year or two ago when I was still in high school. I was even challenged to go race there, but I'm not that stupid. I also heard of a lot of people who go down there at night and see how far they can drive with their lights off (again not something I would ever do). So just a warning be careful on that road.
Great shots Rob...I always wondered about taking shots down there, there's some pretty good places to do it.

when i was in high school (actually more like the year after) i did my share of racing. but that was usually at Red Rock down in st. paul. never got caught racing, but it got busted a few times that i was down there. you cant race down there anymore. they have highway dividers set up to make it so you have to turn (really an ingenious way of doing it). i know a few other places people race but again, the cops have really cracked down on the racing around the twin cities. looking back now, i kind of wonder what i was thinking!
ive never heard of people driving with the headlights off down there. thats nuts! ive seen plenty of wild life down there

yeah, thats for sure. i'd say just buy a cheap tripod and leave that in the car. then you can just attact the digital to it when you need it!
or, just put alittle posted not ont he steering wheel telling you to grab the tripod
Funny you mentioned that... it was something that Kev mentioned too (about the time I was applying them to the panels prior to clearcoating them. If I ever have to redo the panels... I'll probably do so!

I really like what you have done to the windows.....what do they look like from behind? I would like to order a pair, but I am skeptical of what the rear of them looks like......any pics?

Rob, I can't wait to see your car in person again. Those quarter windows look really nice.
One thing I like about the MN. club is that you all do some strange things but it always looks great. Your cars have been an endless source of motivation for me.

You mean from the inside looking out? Unless you look closely, they just appear to be black (if you look really closely, you can pick out the texture of the glasswork). But I've never seen anyone go so far as to stick their head over the fastback clip and inspect it that closely I just shot the back with black trim spray, although if one was really concerned they could put the effort (and it would be a little time consuming) to fill over and smooth out the small areas that are still visible.
It just so happens that I did actually shoot a photo of the backside of the scoop - keep in mind that I had to brighten this photo to see any contrast at all (since the shape of the fastback clip creates it's own shadow down there) - it just appears black in all my other photos. If you look closely just above the engine vents, you can see a bit of a "sheen" where the bottom of the scoop's curve is reflecting the flash...
Hope that helps answer your questions!

Thanks - looking forward to seeing you up in the area again!
As to the MN Club and it's "creativity" - it must be the long cold winters
