I remember that the T-top I had while I live in Germany had a specific place to store the tops. I just can't remember if it was in the trunk or under the hood.

The '87 I just bought does not have the storage set-up. Anyone have a pic or am I just imagining that there was a storage area?

Thanks!!

There are straps in the trunk to hold them down, as well as storage bags.

I shove mine behind the seats and I have the tie down straps in the trunk also in some of them.

As far as I know only the 88s came with the straps in the trunk. Although others might have them as well, the ship through cars (CJB) had the straps for sure.

The area behind the seat is nearly the perfect size for the t-tops, but I found I need all the seat travel I can get so I only do that on the passenger side.

The t-tops will not fit under the hood of a stock Fiero. At least not both of them at the same time, along with the spare tire and jack. That's not to say you couldn't modify the forward trunk to accept the t-tops but I have yet to see that done.

Like Jonathon said, All CJB's had straps in the trunk. I have never seen a non-CJB with the straps but it wouldn't be too tough to add them. Personally, I have never used the straps. In my old coupe I used to just stick them behind the seats. But in the GT I normally bag them and put them in the trunk. I rarely ever take the tops out unless I am at some event anyway and in that case I have enough stuff in the trunk that I don't need to straps to keep them in place. As far as putting them behind the seats, it is very tight. I don't do it on the GT because you take a chance on damaging the trim inside the car. It is that tight. I am tall so I put my seats all the way back as well, but if I ever wanted to put the tops back there, I would move the seat up about two clicks and put the top back there with the lock end down. Then I could just recline the seat a little more to make up for the height difference.

Thanks! I guess I must have had an '88 GT with T-tops while in Germany, then. There was definitey a hold-down for the tops. I only bought the car because it looked really low and cool (14 years ago) and when I left the country, I sold it for $5,000 to a German guy who didn't mind that it sounded like a dragster even though it was stock. I must have had some serious engine problems going on, but he was a mechanic and didn't care.

Regardless, if someone has the link that shows us how to tell if the top is CJB or not, I would appreciate it.

Thanks again!

It's real easy, two ways,

1) look under the hood and on the left fender are the "RPO" codes if it has a "CJB" then it's a CJB

2) Look at the weatherseal. If the part that holds the headliner material and the main part of the weatherseal are one part then chances are it's a CJB, (unless someone changed the weatherseal). If it's two separate pieces then chances are it's not a CJB, (same caveat applies).
