wow, people have spent alot on their cars! I bought my fiero for $300, the man I bought it from knew nothing about it, except that it ran but didn't drive. I found it was just a small clutch problem, I put about $150 into it just restoration, new hoses, brake lines etc. Then I just recently got a Chevy 350 for $100 from the junkyard. I am rebuilding that, about $400 for all new pistons, cam lifters, etc etc, just about everything but a new crank, which i got reground. Now i am going to buy archies kit for $1000, and all other parts I need, i'm figuring around $500, so add it all up, by springtime i'll hyave about $2000 into it. Its not the best looking, and lots of stuff doesn't quite line up, but I hope to fix that all this winter too.

I'd guess I've got around $15K into my car. Thats including all my engine swaps (been 3 so far), clutches, transmissions, suspension, interior ect. It's worth it I think. I like the car.
I had $32K in my near stock standard 86 GT t-top. Since then? I don't want to know.
I am not feeling so bad now although i am thinking i will come close to 20k by the time i have paint wheels and tyres and have it clean and pesentable i just spent $1400au getting my KYB shocks struts swaybar lowering springs water tank and a cable delivered. By the time delivery conversion etc it all adds up. Cost me $80au to get a second hand mirror here all up after conversion delivery etc on a $15 ebay item. Right now i drive the rattiest fiero ever and i am fixing everything but i will make a good car of this one day. The suspension is totally stuffed so cant wait till i can fit it all. Xmas is not the time for me to spend more money but i have at least got all the parts. I will need some welding done on LHD front before I can fit it.
Trivia: Labour is about $80 au an hour in Australia so do as much as you can yourself.

Hey, I would be really interested if you could pull of a V8 swap with only 2 grand. If you go ahead with this please start a thread including all the parts used and price, I want exact prices to see what I would have to pay. I hope it works out for you, good luck.
Sweet car! What are you talking about nothing to show for it, that is nice. Oh yeah, and the guys right below it is very nice as well.
Thanks for the compliments. When I say not a lot to show for it, I mean no dramatic modifications like a swap, custom interior, or body mods. I do like my car too though

My favorite fiero started life as an $800 rust free 88 base coupe with 4cyl and 5 speed. Since Jan 1, 2000 I have spent over $12,000 in parts alone for this car. Then I had to build the matching trailer!

In my opinion I believe that his fiero was infact the most beautiful ever built, madcurl yours is in second place. I couldn't even try to think about a third place. What ever happened to the Plazma after he died?
Bought for $5k CDN (in 2000 - had less than 50k kilometers on it) and ran it like that for two years. Bought custom wheels and rubber - Kaching $1800 Blew engine - had a rebuild done with side scoops added - Kaching +$4k Blew 3 ignition modues, coil, etc - kaching +$500 Delivered to Archies last fall - kaching +$200 New 350-330 V8- Chrome TPI, new adjustable coil overs, new G6 6 speed, 3"chop top - KACHING $30K
I have run out of cash and will need to drive it - in primer until September - I'm sure you'll all feel sorry for me!
I figured I couldn't buy much in a used sports car for $20k - now $30k and I'll have a brand new car - if ya add up the bits - that will be a real sleeper from the outside. I owned my first '88gt in 88 and sold it in 96. I couldn't live without a Fiero and started back into things in 2000. I'll most likely be doing a "nice" paint job this fall - then will tackle the doors - ala lambo? - and then the interior with Monsieur Mikes and maybe a dash retro. I'm in for the long haul now - so might as well enjoy it!
Archie will be starting a new thread with this rebuild in the next week..... pics etc...

Other then my username... I'd say I'm pretty obsessed.
Im buying a house so I can work on my Fiero. Thats pretty bad right?
I hate my dam fallapartment. I still work on my Fiero and I have a full car harness sprawled about the livingroom. It's for my pace car witch is on the other side of the country. Go figure.
Here's the "other one" that I mentioned at the beginning of the thread.
Not counting the rims (borrrowed them from the red car) I have nearly $7K in this one. That includes another car that I traded "heads up" that I valued at ~$3500, +$1000 for body parts, including Doug's fiberglass panels and the GT rear clip pieces. +$1800 for paint and bodywork. Plus the dash speakers, plus the headunit, plus various little bits and pieces. And about a billion hours of labor. And I still haven't started on the drivetrain. (This one runs fine, although it's stone slow compared to my 3.4.)

No way , no how, under any circumstances will my wife ever see this thread. She says she needs a new winter coat-------but it's April and winter is eight months away. The SE needs a new exhaust system., and Summer comes before snowfall. Wish me luck.
I've only got $1735+ into my 87GT 5speed. $390 of that was for the car plus towing it home. The rest all pretty much went to the engine. I do all the work my self, and have plenty of extra Fiero parts to go into the project.
I'm trying to sell the other 5 of my Fieros so I can put all my money into one car:
In think that I have spent $10k with the Fiero Store alone and propbably 15k total plus the car that I bought for 5k in 1994.

================================================ I got my '88 Fiero GT (Fastback), 5-speed on ebay 1 month ago for $6851.00 I've been wanting one for 7 years but my X-wife and later my X-girl friend wouldn't let me get one ..... Guess what my new girl friend had no problem I'm marrying this cute blonde Here is the ebay discription....
Vehicle Description High Performance 1988 Pontiac Fiero 5 Speed Manual Transmission with 250 HP 3.8L Super Charged Engine
I am only the second owner of this fine car, which has never been smoked in. I bought it from the original owner 3 years ago with 89000 miles. The 1988 Model year has the best performance suspension hands down of any previous model years. If you are looking for a true performance Fiero- this is it. I just needed more horsepower than the stock car so when the car turned 100k-I swapped a super charged engine from a 1999 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with 22k miles. The car has been mechanically rebuilt with only the finest parts. I improved upon the already outstanding suspension by making it completely height adjustable on all 4 corners.
3.8L series II Super Charged Engine Magnecor R-100 10mm Pure Silicone Racing Wires Custom Ceramic Coated Headers (West Coast Fiero) Borla Stainless Steel Exhaust (sounds mean but is not too loud at all) New High Flow Cat Converter Height Adjustable Rear Koni Coil-Over adjustable struts with 325# Springs (Held Motorsports) Height Adjustable Custom Front Carrera Coil-Over shocks with 7” 300# Springs (RCC specialties) New wheel bearings on all 4 wheels (Rodney Dickman) New Upper and Lower Ball Joints New rack and pinion bushing and bearing (Rodney Dickman) All New Steering tie Rods (inner and outer) Professional Powder coating of all suspension components, roll bars, engine cradle, and front brakes Complete Urethane Bushings of all suspension Components and transmission mounts (New rubber engine mount used to help reduce vibration rather than all urethane) New Transmission Bearings, Inside and Out Centerforce Clutch Phantom Grip Limited Slip Differential (works great- much better grip from both tires- unlike stock) Cold Air Intake with K&N Air Filter Stock Corvette Fuel Pump Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines (Fiero Store) Custom Engine Bay Heat Shielding Complete Dynamat under carpet of drivers side compartment and door Tinted Windows ……Many More
New Bridgestone Potenza RE950 Tires Front: 205/60R15 Rear: 215/60R15
Stereo Kenwood w/Sirius Satellite (Does not work) Front 5.25” Polk dB component Speakers Rear 4” MB Quart component plate Speakers Pioneer 4 Ch 400 Watt Amp for front and rear mids and tweets Sony 2 Ch 200 Watt Amp for two 6” Subwoofers
Professionally adapted Air Conditioning to work with stock drier and evaporator -nice and cold in summer
Over $9000 invested but well worth it for the increased acceleration and handling. Approximately 250 HP and 250 ft lbs Torque turns this car into a Rocket- a real sleeper, as the car appears stock other than the lowered suspension. But it can easily be raised from the low stance I have it adjusted to right now. The suspension is also fairly stiff- which is outstanding at freeway speeds- but not quite as comfortable for around town driving (softer springs can easily be installed for about $120 a pair from Summit Racing). I get 20 MPG around town and almost 30 MPG on the freeway.
I built this car to be a daily driver- which it has been for the last three years with absolutely no problems (I commuted 120 miles a day for the last three years- freeway miles). I took great pains to keep the already limited trunk space. Many other modified cars I have seen removed the trunk for exhaust plumbing or mount the engine computer in the trunk. This car has its trunk still intact and was custom wired so that the engine computer sits in the stock location (center armrest console behind pull out storage compartment). I have also retained the air conditioning for nice summer driving- many other cars do not have this very nice luxury (although it was expensive to engineer at $1000).
Although this car has been extensively rebuilt (most mechanical components have 40k miles and the engine has 62k miles, and tires have 4k)- it is still 18 years old. The transmission shifts great-nice and smooth when warm- but needs a little more effort when cold. As with any car with urethane transmission mounts- you can feel vibration at idle- but it smooths out as soon as you hit the gas. And as luck would have it, my Kenwood stereo stopped working two weeks ago (but it still sounds great with a Dell DJ plugged into the Amp), and the stiff suspension has caused a few rattles and squeak’s. The car is wired for cruise control- but it does not work (I bought a new blinker/cruise control switch- but I have not had time to see if this would fix it). The oil pressure gauge on the instrument cluster does not work (a simple electronic circuit would have to be built to convert the voltage output of the Series II engine oil sender to drive the stock guage – which needs a current sink. i.e. voltage to current converter). The seats have no rips or tears but the drivers seat was wearing pretty thin before I put a cheap cover over it (I was holding out for Mr. Mikes leather seats but didn’t get around to it). As can be seen from the pictures (hopefully can be seen, it was raining when I took some of these pictures) the original paint has some pretty good road rash on the front end and is starting to peel off of the rear bumper, and the clear coat on the roof is starting to fade. (Some of the pictures are three years old from when I originally rebuilt the car).
Overall this car is in excellent shape and an outstanding daily driver-but it is not new-sold as is, no warranty implied. I never planned on selling this car- but my circumstances have changed and I need a larger car so I must sell it- as much as it pains me to give it up. Please call or email me if you have any questions. I have tried to describe the condition of the car as honestly as I can (without writing a novel).
PS It's about 5" off the ground.
