I'm thinking about buying a set of IMSA quarter panels for my 86 SE with my tax refund shortly and would like to know a few simple things. These are for regular bodied Fieros right? Not just IMSA widebodies? Also, how do they work with the stock moldings on the door and quarter panels? If anyone has pictures of them painted and installed that would also help my decision. I've heard good things about them and really like the look of their quarter panels. Thanks for any help!

The IMSA quarter scoops are designed to replace the stock lower quarters. You reuse your stock trim. You do not have to have a widebody. (The widebody scoops are actually molded in to the rear widebody fenders.)
Here's a couple of pics..

Those do look pretty sharp. The trim I'm talking about is along the bottom of the door and quarters just like on Kev's 85 GT. Does it still work with those panels or would it look too busy. Also, how much prep work was required to get them ready for paint? Anyone know what the screens they sell look like? More out of curiosity than anything. Thanks for the help, anymore would be great.

I don't think it would look too "busy". They were designed to work with GTs and non-GTs alike. Someone else asked me for measurements a couple of days ago, and I still need to get those. I'll post them up when I do.
I bought these already primed. I didn't have to do anything to get them ready to paint, as my painter took care of all that but they were purchased "ready to paint", anyway. I had to elongate a couple of holes, where the "nubs" on the upper rear quarter stick through, and one at the bottom where it is riveted behind the door, but it took all of about two minutes. Not a big deal.
The screens are made of "expanded" aluminum. It works quite well. (I call it "gutter guard" screen because that's what it reminds me of.) Someone else posted a source for steel screen that has a hex pattern like our dash vents. The down side of that is that steel will rust unless it's painted. The aluminum can just be left alone or painted if you prefer. I painted my screens black.
Both cars look fantastic. I would really like to see these panels with the lower door moldings but if no one has any then I guess I'll just have to see for myself first hand. Thanks everyone for the reply's and very nice cars folks.

Both car look great! I wanted to keep my yellow 88 GT original, but those scoops really are nice. I have some of the factory hex screen from extra engine vent covers. Can I purchase the side vents without the screens? Raydar...your Formula/GT is really clean. Do you have a pic from the rear of the car? Also, has anyone done a picture how to on installing these on a Fiero?

Thanks for the kind words on my car! Here's the rear view.
I don't know of any how-to's on the install, but they're not difficult. The hardest part is getting the rocker panels off. Just have to drive the centers out of the rivets, then drill them out. There are three hidden rivets under inserts in the doorsills. Then you have to take off the side molding. A couple of plastic rivets, a screw in the wheelwell and a couple of clips that are guaranteed to disintegrate. Once all of that is off, there are a couple more previously hidden rivets to punch and drill out, and a handful of screws at the front of the wheelwell, and the panel can be removed. The "ear" on the top of the panel is hooked underneath the top of the upper rear body clip. You'll need to tilt and slide it forward a bit to get it to release. The airbox may also try to hold the left side stock panel on, but it's just a friction fit into the stock intake scoop. You may want to remove the wheelwells, especially the left side, but it's not absolutely necessary. Once the panel is removed, you'll need to remove the stock airbox. It'll be in the way of the new panel. I just left the elbow on the bottom of the air filter canister. It pulls cool air from behind the panel. As they say, installation is the reverse of disassembly. Be sure to get the metal clips, where the wheelwell is screwed in, from your old panels. You may find that you'll need to elongate one of the slots in the top of the new panel. Takes about two minutes with a drill and the appropriate sized bit. You also may have to elongate one of the holes at the very bottom, where it's rivited under the door. Again, not a big deal.

Holy crap! I had never seen this car before. That's yours, Raydar? That car looks really good! What car is that color paint from? Drop that thing an inch up front and it will be real sharp and I will be quite jealous.

Thanks Steven! That used to be my old black Formula that's been "under the knife" for two years. The color is Pontiac Stealth Gray. (G6 and Grand Prix color.) And I already dropped it an inch in the front. (Remember it's an 88.) I agree, it needs to go lower.
What clips, rivets, fasteners, etc. do I need to purchase to replace the one's that break or have to destroy to remove the panels. Does Fiero Warehouse sell these too? I just want to have everything ready to do the job.
Thanks,
Rick

I don't think Fiero Warehouse has the fasteners. The Fiero Store has everything you need, though. I'll dig up the part #s for you. The packing list is downstairs. I'll have to go get it. You'll also need a rivet gun that handles 1/4" rivets. Northern Tool has one for ~$19.
It's kind of a PITA, but the rivets that the Fiero Store sells have threads on the shanks. I actually had to chuck them into an electric drill and file the threads smooth to make them fit into the rivet gun. Obviously, the rivets are designed for some "special" insertion tool, but my way worked okay. You could probably use plain old 1/4" rivets (which come with the rivet gun, BTW) but they are silver instead of black, as the originals are. Little bit of black paint or a Sharpie marker can fix that, though.

Hi Folks, Doug from "Fiero Warehouse" here. Tim, these quarter scoops will fit any fiero. They're $250/pair. That includes screens, and mounting holes drilled out. At this moment, we're backed-up on orders. Trying to get parts ready for FL show. Expect to wait. Order early.
My scoops work with stock moldings. The aero effects will fit on these panels and look great. I have one picture with them installed on an aero coupe. If someone will post them, that would be great. Email me.

Scoops can be purchased without screens. That saves $30. We have tried the hex screen before. It just didn't look right. Kinda hard to describe it, but here goes.......all the hex shapes, when viewed through the scoop opening, appear crooked. Don't know why. They just do.

Rick, I carry all the fasteners. Conveniently grouped for each need. If you get lucky some of your clips/hardware won't break.
Raydar, again, great looking car! Nice work. Thanks for allowing me to use pictures of the car in my catalog.
Zoom, beautiful coupe! Very smooth. May I use pictures of your fiero?

Ooops! Didn't know you had the fasteners too! I still owe you some close ups. I had to work all weekend, but I'm off tomorrow. I'll try to get some off to you.
Shoot me the pics of the IMSA scoops on the GT if you want. I'll post them for you.

Hey Doug, good to hear it from the source. I'm very interested in these and will order as soon as I can see that pic of them with the door moldings on them. How do we order the rivets and other hardware that is needed for panel replacement? I can't seem to find it on you're site. What can we expect for turn around on these? I will order in the next few days and we just had another pretty healthy snow today here in WI so the car will be down for another month or so. Thanks Doug

Someone asked for measurements on the scoop. From the bottom of the belt line molding to the top of the scoop opening is ~1 1/4". From the bottom of the belt line molding to the bottom of the scoop is ~9 3/4".
That's measured straight down from the bottom of the molding. NOT parallel to the rear opening of the scoop.

Hey Doug, You can use any pics you would like. If you want something specific just Email me and I will get it for you. Least I can do for the advice you gave me on the trans-am fender vents and the quality products and services you supply the Fiero community !! For those looking to buy from Doug , I have had 2 different sets of the side scoops/vents they make. The full panel side scoop and the IMSA , both have been excellent quality. I have been thinking about one of the Wrap Around Rear Spoilers if they fit the notchbacks .....

You mean like this one?
Actually, this one came from IRM before Doug acquired their stock.
As nice as your car is, it ought to look spectacular with the wrap around. Do it! (Unlike yours, mine is a bit beat down. Needs paint baaaad.)
I can only give Doug the highest of recommendations. Everything I've bought has been top notch, and he backs up what he sells. FWIW... As intricate as the fastback whaletail is (on the gray car), it fit better than any fiberglass Fiero part I have ever installed.

I suggest waiting until you've removed the panel to see what breaks. No reason to buy if you don't have to.
Right now, expect 4 week turn around. We're busy with FL orders right now.

Sage Glassworks produces the scoops for me. Props go to Sage. Excellent work!

I've been thinking of doing this on my 85 when I install the GT panels. I want everything to be proportional, but I want the angles of the vents to compliment each other. with the lower body panels I'd have to figure out how to space the Trans Am vents. Raydar, how tall are those front scoops? I think I have the same sized ones (since there were two). Zoom88, what are the distances from the rub strip at the top to the top opening of the scoop and the bottom opening of the scoop to the edge of the ground effect?
