Hmm, you know if enough people wanted it I could have the exhaust shop make a jig to produce them. Cost would depend on number made. Show of hands?

Wow that is a clean engine I have a few Q's for ya. How many throttle plates dose the PFI have? 2 or 4? Dose the fiero trans bolt to the 4.9 without a adapter plate? For some reason I thought i did Is there a 4 barrel intake available for a carbed install?

Thanks, not quite as clean as I would have wanted but I want to start driving this car!
The 4.9 PFI has a (for lack of a better term) 2bbl throttle body. I am not sure if there was ever a 4bbl intake made for the 4.x motor. Your not wanting to swap a carb on a 4.9 are you? I personally think swapping a carb on a fuel injected motor is a poor way to get around the electronics. I will never give up the advantages of fuel injection! But, thats just me. Oh yeah, the 4.9 will bolt up directly to the fiero transaxle. If you use a manual trans you will need a modified flywheel to bolt to the caddy crank pattern.

Just an update:

Jesse's car is done and gone. See Steven Vincent(BV MotorSports) is da man thread.

My car is still in progress. I have made alot of progress but it seems everytime I get one thing done, 10 more that I forgot pop up. Why is that?

Anyway here is what has been done:
ALOT of cleaning and painting...seems I do more of this than anything!
Zettner front brakes done but have to pick up the wheel studs tomorrow
Stripped, cleaned and painted my engine bay
Started putting engine bay back together
Working out the mounting of the coolant sensors in the stock t-stat housing
Ordered a TON of parts and my credit card is still hot to the touch! Ouch!
Still waiting on my Held 88 cradle conversion kit
Bolted the 88 suspension back on the cradle after spending 2 days looking for the mounting hardware!
Got my indiglo gauges in today so I have to pull the new white face ones off and install the new ones (didnt get any instructions...that sux)
Put the 4cyl throttle cable in

I'll put some pics up tomorrow

Steven

I just thought that a 4 barrel Holley might give better performance than having to replace comp and rewire the thing. If I was to do my own 4.9 I think I would look for a performance intake to use with a Q-jet or similar. Carb probs I can handle easily. Computer problems are a real PITB that I would want to avoid.

Just wanted to bump this and let everyone know I stopped by Steve's place to peek at Jesse's car before he came to get it. It wasn't exactly street legal so I didn't get to ride in it, but there are fresh burnout marks in front of Steves' house. Anyway, I don't think Jesse's car is totally done, there is a LOT of cleanup needed...(Jesse, we never met but speaking as a fellow Fiero fan I say this out of love, man) MAJOR cleanup, like remove the interior and wash everything. And there are a couple body repairs needed. The engine compartment isn't show-ready, but Steve used some quality parts where it was important. Dude, clean out that front compartment! With all the leaves in there, I'd bet you need to clean the air conditioning duct where the resistor coils are. I got a photo of a silver 85 GT that burned up from the doors FORWARD I would believe due to combustables in the ductwork. I dig the camaro tips!

And you would think to replace a throttle cable would be pretty simple!

Maybe I wont have it ready for the Va drag race meet on the 30th hosted by RacerJT

Installing the reverse indiglo gauges

Mounted but still not in the car!

More tomorrow.

I'm curious what solution you used for the front brake rotor clearance. Did you weld up the rotor and machine back out as suggested in instructions or make a shim or what?

Didnt need to. This was a very simple swap. I'd dare say easier than when I did the GA brake upgrade. My buddy, Carlos made the front hubs from a old pair of stock front rotors and the new 11.25 rotors fit perfect. I bought my brackets and spacers from Sluppy. For the fit and quality, they cant be beat.

Well, I got the engine trans firmly mounted to the cradle now. I had to go back and change the hard mounts that had been welded on the cradle due to we mocked it up with the wrong motor mount. Thanks Ed for sending out the correct mount for Jesse's car. I think I have it setting just right now.

To Do:
Install wiring harness
Install HMS 88 cradle conversion kit
Install oil/tranny coolers
Build/install fuel lines
Hook up coolant lines
Buy/Install axles
Install cradle and rear brakes
Button up interior
Modify shifter bracket @ trans
Hook up MSD 6AL
Top off all fluids

Damn, that list just got me depressed....

Rebody The 4.9 is looking great. Still may be interested in having you do the work on mine when the time comes.

Watch your back, RemixGT is plotting a sniper attack in another thread.

This is what he was talking about Jesse:

Though I saw that you cleaned that area out real good.

Not alot done today.

Picked up my slider pins and pad springs from the local chevy dealer for the 88 calipers. Still need to find a pass side e-brake lever and e-brake return springs.
Installed my new GT badge on the nose.
Installed the 88 front e-brake cable.

Still waiting on the 88 cradle conversion kit. Still havent ordered the wiring harness. *sigh*

I'll post some more pics tomorrow. Sorry dial up guys.

I did get my 88 cradle kit w/ coil overs in from HMS! Thanks Lee! Also started making a cardboard template for the idler/tensioner set up. Post pics of that once the prototype is ready.
