And I asked you what you were doing this weekend, But I guess won't get around to starting on the car until Monday if I head out with Doug Saturday.
I'm still game if you go sunday, o and by the way i cut that damm tree down to a moveable trunk with a hand saw so i don't want to hear about not working on the cars!

Just wanted to post a quick update as to today's progress. I worked on getting the TA vents into the passenger fender and also started work on removeing the luggage rack from the Fastback decklid I have. While I was doing this Dad started work on shapeing the clip! And I must say he did a bang-up job.
I am really excited with the progress that has been made on just this first day of work. If the same leaps and bounds can be made when it comes time to put the engien and tranny in, this car will just end up being awesome.
Thanks for takeing the time to look take care, Anthony

First on the tour is the re-shaped edge to the notchback clip so that it flows with the fastback vents a bit better than it did.
Also today I worked more on the decklid and filling the wholes left by the luggage rack, actually last thing done today before clean up was to throw some bondo on the glass work, this will be sanded first thing tomorrow.
Then of course one of the other projects I was wanting to do was to elimate the antenna. I was at a lost as to what to do about this until I read Skitimes history thread. So thanks Dave for the wonderful idea.
And that's where I stand at the end of work on Day 2. I'm still waiting on the drivetrain parts that I need in order to mount the 3.2 and Getrag on the spare cradle. As soon as all the parts get here I will be changeing gears and concentrating on getting the car to run on it's new powerplant.
Thanks for reading and take care, Anthony

Well nothing to really report for today. Worked some more on the decklid. Installed the wire harness for the release solenoid and installed the latch and solenoid. Sanded on the fenders some more trying to get the finish work done from where the scoops were installed. Took a couple pictures but nothing really to share I did however do a line drawing of what the final image should resemble:
Thanks and take care, Anthony

Looking good Anthony, keep up the progress Hey, I've got another side scoop idea for my car and I'm going to have to pull the front fenders off to do it, I'd like to stow the antenna as you and Skitime did, what exactly did you have to do to get it that way? Thanks!

I can tell you what I did but not sure as to what Dave did. I unbolted the antenna from the car to begine with. I then used the base to help to determine the size for a bracket. I used 16 gauge steel to make a 90 degree bracket that I bolted to the space frame then I bolted the base from the antenna to this bracket. Finally the fender forces the antenna to bend and contour to what's there makeing for a nice clean line above. I do not know how this affects reception. Under normal circumstances I don't use the radio. And since there are plans to install a CD player and changer in the car I really have no use for the radio but would like to have it just incase as a back up. If you read Dave's thread he claims that he recieves just as good reception with the antenna mounted this way. But still opted to add a second antenna which dosen't seem like a bad idea to anyone that might be used to haveing a radio. As for the fender and shaveing the hole. I used the peice from the fender where I added the scoops to fill the gap. I used a grinder to create a recess for the filler to set in, and then bonded and filled the area with corvette panel adhesive.
And finally here is a close up picture of the bracket I made in order to mount the antenna on the side of the space frame.
Hope this helps with everything. Take care, Anthony

Outstanding work Anthony (good name too!)! You guys are not wasting any time, great progress.
Did have a couple questions though,...do you plan to add any ground effects and are you keeping the nose the same ?
Hey by the way my car is just down the way (a few hours)in Middletown, feel free to stop by and work on it, if you finish your car and get bored lol.
Tony
As of right now I have no plans or desires to add ground effects. I want a very clean looking car with very little on it or sticking above the body lines. I have been trying to come up wiht something for the front bumper, seems I am gettign pretty good at bonding ABS together but as of yet I haven't been able to find anything I like, and I don't won't to take on the task of creating something of that size just yet. But we'll see by the end of the project what I am up to
Thanks for reading and take care, Anthony

DAY 4 Well got somethings done today but I didn't take any pictures So I will have to just post extra tommorrow But as it stands right now the decklid is basically done. The fenders are about 80% done and the clip well the clip is getting there. I also tour down most of the interior today prepping to swap out the shifter cables and ECM. But sad news is that I am still waiting on the tranny brackets. I received my fuel pump and sending unit today and got them into the new gas tank so that setup is waiting to go as well. Thanks and take care, Anthony

I got some full panel side scoops that would look GREAT on that car... probably even match the paint!
Man that is going to look GREAT!!!! i love notchbacks bodys, but i always liked the GT taillights better, I had a damaged GT Rear clip that i was debating doing that to, But i decided against it as i know nothing about fiberglassing.
That will be one sweet ride when your done. If you need any parts let me know (if doug doesnt have them i guess)

How about something less ordinary for your fine machine? This is similar to what I am doing to mine.

Yeah I think I have mentioned this several times but I am still in need of a decent uncracked set of taillights?

SO as for an update, vacation is over and money has run dry. SOOO it might be a bit now before I can get to the beast and tinker some more. Will at least be another week before I get some time off in order to get out to the shop and get something done. Plus with all the rain that has been hangin around the last week or so it's made it fun to try and get anything done.
Thanks to all for your interest I hope to finish this ting all the way to end and be able to unveil it next year at the start of the season.
Take care, Anthony

does it matter if they are faded real bad? I guess i can take pictures of them, as i do have some uncracked ones, but they are faded real real bad.
matthew
mosh, what do you mean by "faded"? Do you mean that the plastic is scratched so bad they look dull? I have a set that I bought off a wrecked car. I thought that I had nothing to lose, so I went over to the bodyshop supply store, and bought some wet/dry sandpaper, 400 grit, 1000 grit, and 2000 grit. I started sanding with the 400...you need to have a bucket filled with a water/dishsoap mixture, and keep the sandpaper wet. Start sanding...I sanded back and forth along the length of the taillight. I dipped the sandpaper in the water every now and again...you want to keep the sandpaper and the taillights wet. After about 10 minutes of this, I switched to the 1000 grit, doing the same thing I did with the the 400. I finally finished it off with the 2000 grit. I then rinsed off the taillight lens, and dried it off. It looked really bad, until I hit it with some Meguiar's Plastic Cleaner and Polish. Now, it looks like a brand new lens, where before, someone had spilled something on it, and it had eaten into the lens. Just something to try to bring back those lenses...it worked well for me.

I beleive they came off of teh 83 TA but here maybe this will help;
p/n#10030552 p/n#10030553
It was kind of funny actually cause I saw that everyone was going around to salvage yards trying to find the vents, and I posted a questions as to weather or not anyon ehad even tried seeing if the vents were still available through a dealership. Well like most of the time I got ignored and no one answered the question. SO couple of weeks later I was driving by the dealership and decided to stop in and ask some questions I had been meaning to try and get answered. Well the parts manager sat down with me and helped out on a bunch of questions and one of the things he tracked down for me was a the part number for the scoops. And they are still available. Just for some more info I beleive that it is cheaper if you get them from gmpartsdirect.com but I hope this helps anyone out that wanted to find these scoops. They run about thirty a peice. Take care, Anthony
Matt you still haven't ever sent me pictures of the taillights?

Can you share a little on the T/A fender vents that are on the hood? I'm looking to do something like that, and would like to know how you bonded them to the hood.
MinnGreen send me a pic of them finished on a hood, but the pics in this thread look like they've been removed/ground down?
Any info you could provide would be a help.
thanks in advance,

WHen they were originally installed I had the lip sticking above the line of the hood, like they are on the TA. But After I started all me know mods I decided that I didn't want anything that distracted or stuck up aboce the the bodylines of the car. So I did exactly what you said I used a grinder and removed all of the scoop that was sticking up. As for how the scoops are bonded, they are made of SMC so it was really just a matter of bonding two fiberglass panels together. I measured where I wanted them and used a cutting wheel to cut out the whole in the shape of the scoop in the first layer of the hood. I then cut a small version of the hole in the second layer of the hood. This left a self for the scoop to sit on as it was being bonded to the hood. Only problem I encountered was I didn't correctly measure for the placement of the scoops, so when I shut the hood it was hitting on the radiator fan. I remedied this two ways first I took out my stock 88 fan and replaced it with a earlier year that didn't have the little ribs on the support. That pretty much solved the problem but since I had to grind of the supports for the stock bolts on the underside of the scoops I went ahead and removed a bit more material just to make sure it wasn't going to hit.
Hope this helps with any questions. Take care, Anthony

Glad it helps hopefully one day the car will be done and people will actually get to see it in person! But as for the scoops I will try to take some pictures of the newly shaved version with pictures of the top and bottom and of the radiator fan so people will better understand what I had to do in order to get the scoops to fit and not hit when the hood is shut. (Wouldn't of had the problem if I had measured correctly!) Wish me luck and feel free to email with questions. Take care, Anthony
Well only thing I have gotten to since the holidays was to cut out the battery tray. And the another note I have been working on my brothers 86gt which is now the new home to a 3.4 Bad news is I got everything hooked up and ready to go, turned the key and no fuel pump But we hope to work on it again Sunday. I'm kind of hopeing the relay went out and that I don't have to pull the tank.
