HOLY CRAP! That's not the car I remember! Looks very cool... Although your steeling the color I was going to use on my cloned Impala Station Wagon. I talked with Eric today, so I thought I would find this thread to look at your car. Give me a call this weekend if your home, I would like to swing by and take a look. I've still got lots of work to do with my GT... That one won't be ready for the show, but the new 88 t-top Formula will. Promise to park next to me!
On the show...things are really kinda coming together. We have a awsome deal at the hotel that's right next to where we are looking to get parking lot space. It wasn't the first choice, but do to zoning and permitting it's where we are. I think it's going to work out a little bit better, but the banquet room is booked up already. We're looking into other places around the area to get into. If you have a little time this weekend lets try to run out there. I'm going to get with Eric and hopefully Rob and get out to get everyones input.
Nice to see that car is coming along... was afraid that it was stalled out ofor a while. Gotta run for now. Talk to you later. OH... have something you maybe interested in. Just yell at me later.

BTW your new Formula looks good. Damn and the price you paid for the car and with T-Tops no less, Good Find.
I worked some on the GT again today just smoothing out the glass work on the hood. I still need to turn it over and do the underside to make it look more finished. After that and some sanding on the passenger side I'll take the door panels off and apart and prime them getting them ready for paint. I'm giving myself 2 weeks to finsh that stage. With any luck it will be painted by mid March, then check up the engine compartment. Not to much since the engine is going to be changed out, but enough to make it presentable.
2 weeks ago, or was it 3 now? I had to drill out the hole for the brackets that hold the front sway bar in place when I broke three of them replacing the poly on the bar. We're making progress now.
I like the idea about the Chesterfield area for the show this year. How about the Westport parking lot where they have the Chili cook off each year. Very visible from the highway at 270 and Page. Just a idea. Plus we are right there at some resturants.
Later,
Earl

Heres a little something I got for the GT the other day. A Billet gas door to replace the esisting door. The cable release wasn't the greatest, and this one has a locking door.

I did some more on the GT today. I took the first step in molding my T/A fender vents in. I used SMC body panel adhesive and mounted the vents from the backside of the fender. After it sets for a day I'll sand finish smoothing them out.
Could you please post here for us the brand name and part numbers of the SMC adhesive and filler products your using? Thanks

The car is sanded down for repaint which I am going to try and get done this weekend. I've been working 6-7 days a week since Feb. so I behind in the schedule.
The car is off the jack stands and the ZR1 hood scoop is completed and smoothed out. The Alpine stereo I bought from $Rich$ is in and working great. The ZR1 scoop works great. It's amazing how much air flows through the scoop and out by the windsheild when the radiator fan kicks in. It's almost like a hair dryer on high.
The 2002 3400 Gen III engine I bought from JackL is on it's way from Florida along with the Turbo from Donk312.
The main focus right now is to get the paint finished for Wheatstock, maybe for the Gateway Show. If I can get the paint finished the way I like it for the Gateway Show, I'll install the 3400 for Wheatstock. The Turbo will wait since thats a little more involved with a custom chip and the 90 Beretta ECM.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.

It was a nice sunny 85 degrees here and I decided not to go to work today, instead I got some work done on the GT.
I got almost all the primer finished. I double checked all the panels where I added the hood scoop, whale tail and T/A vents. Everything is looking good in primer so far. I changed my mind again and decided to paint the GT White. Actually GM's White Diamond used on 2001 Impala's and I'm adding Blue Pearl to give it a nice shimmer.
I focused on the panels I took off the body today. I set some of them back on the car to bake in the sun earlier today.
The 3400 engine is here as well as the Turbo and intercooler. So as soon as the paint is finished, this weekend I hope, I can start looking at getting the 3400 installed.

I'm impressed. Your doing an outstanding job and I think it will really pay off. I can't wait to see it. Keep up the good work. Your in a lot deeper with the body work than I have ever gotten (or want to get for that matter )
Lookin' goooooddddd...........

does the billet gas door just fit over the existing are after removing the oem door?
your project is coming along great!

Ikon, The Billet door replaces the OEM door. I'm having second thoughts about using it mainly because of it's size. It takes up the a lot of space on the qtr panel from the qtr window to the trim. Tomorrow I'll decide finally if I'm going to use it.
Paul this car got way more involved than I ever thought it would in a very big way. The body mods but the 3400 Gen III intercooled turbo engine coming up which is going to be a challenge electrically. Of course it's not much in comparision to your IMSA car.
Another pic from eariler today.
I wasn't worried about paint on the windshield or rear tires since they are being replaced.
I plan on finishing the paint tomorrow if it doesn't rain.

I was sitting here thinking about one little detail I'm having problems with. I can't decide which color to paint the trim molding on the car. I've been thinking white, but black looks good also, plus you don't see door dings as easy. Grey or Silver maybe? The decals I plan on putting on the GT are Silver grey, plus the interior is grey.
Anyone have pics with white cars with white or silver trim?

I think modifying is harder than fabricating........ Good work! As for the wihte will silver, look for the IMSA protype car. White on top, silver on the bottom. Red stripe on the rub strip.

I didn't get as far as I wanted today. The wind played hell with painting.
Thanks for the compliment Paul. I'm pushing very hard to have it done for the Gateway Show.
I'm not going to worry about detailing the engine compartment or front storage area since those areas will need work. I want to put carpet in the front area and of course the 3400 will be going in so why bother until then with the engine compartment. I noticed a wrinkle in the headliner today between the T-Top and the rear window, I guess I get to pull the headliner again to fix the backboard.
I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them.

JScott if you read this, I went ahead and welded some along the back and front of the T-Top frame. I was talking with Tim (tesmith66) the other day at lunch. I was a little worried about racing the car and the T-Top frame just being riveted in. Earl
Earl,
I don't know how I missed this thread until now, I don't know that the t-top needs welding to be strong, but it can't hurt. If you used lots of sealer in there, then that and the 50 or so rivets make it nice and tight.
My next t-top prject will probably involve some welding only because I have a mig welder now.
You car is coming along nicely, I know how frustrating it can be to have one of these projects drag on for so long.

Wow! I absolutely love the cowl scoop! Guys like you make it tough for people like me. I really want to get my 87 fastback project on the road but now you have me wondering about the hood scoop. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. With BigRed gone, I have enough money to buy more parts than I have time to install.
That's simply beautiful.
Skitime, I've seen your car close up in person. You know that there is nothing to be said about a car that makes me speachless.
Keep it up and keep us posted.

The car hasn't been worked in a few months now. I spent some time in the hospital for a heart attack. Fortunately I was in the doctor’s office when it happened. I wasn't feeling right, pains in my left arm; my heart was skipping beats and all. It was scary to say the least. I'm not much on sharing my personal problems here on the forum, a few know of what happened, but I asked them to keep it to themselves. I missed the Kansas show because of it, which I really wanted to go and was all set reservations and all. We were going to Kansas City to the Wolf Lodge first then jump over to the show. Man plans God prevails as the saying goes.
The clear coat is on all panels except the rear bumper which still needs to be clear coated and the pearl applied, then finish putting it back together and buff it out to a nice smooth shine. Because I am self-employed it also took a small toll on my cash flow so the car sits right now so I can recuperate some more and build my funds back up a little.
It's amazing how time flys. I bought this car 3 1/2 years ago. I still start the car every other week to keep the 2.8 freed up. It will be a while before the 3400 goes in, just because of the physical aspect of putting it in. I've made some major changes on it since I bought it. It's been fun and frustrating at the same time. The White base with blue pearl is awesome in the sun. I chose the blue pearl only because of the grey interior. That way it would match a little better than the typical goldish color pearl most people see. The side molding is grey instead of the black, which really looks good.
I have been on the forum from time to time, but with all the BS that was going on, I chose not to reply to anythng. I just didn't feel up to it.
I hope to be working again on the car soon. Thanks for the concern.
Earl

Good to hear from you! I don't get to the meetings much due to the time and distance, so I may have missed you there. I am glad to hear things are better. You will get the 3.4 done in time. Don't worry about that. The right move is to keep your health, otherwise EVERYTHING will be on hold.
Glad to hear from you too. I haven't been going to the meetings either. I haven't seen anyone since just before the heart attack in June. I've been spending more time with the kids. We bought a camper in September and we've been doing some camping, boating and fishing. My oldest has been a big help putting everything I taught him in Scouts to work so dad can take it a little easier right now. Funny that my wife even likes camping now. We took 3 weekend trips since September to get away and relax.
Paul do you still make those rear sway bars? Let me know if you do.

I started polishing out the car yesterday with 3M's "Perfect-It" This stuff is great and gives the car a very nice mirror like shine. I plan on finishing the car today except for the rear bumper and chin spoiler which I need to repaint. I didn't get those finished last year before going into the hospital.
After that I need to finish sanding and preping the opening on the underside of the front hood where the ZR1 cowl attaches to make it look more finished like Ski's. Then I need to repaint the underside of the front hood and rear decklid a nice mat black color.
With the exception of the engine the car is finally approaching completion. I can't wait to get it on the road. IT's been 3 1/2 years since I bought this car. Dang, time flies when your having fun.
