I just got back from Colorado where Race Car driver Jack Ondrack had driven down from Canada to drop off his cache of 4-cylinder parts. He acquired it all from Joe Huffaker when Huffaker got out of Fiero racing. Ondrack picked-up from there and ran his 1987 Fiero GT with Super Duty 4 engines to victories for years. Jack has decided to get into 6 cyl engines and I bought all of his Fiero stock. Get your bibs on, the drooling is about to begin in earnest. Three Super Duty eninges, 2 complete, 1 short block as well as all the parts needed to build-up the 3rd engine. Many of the parts still have the "Huffaker Engineering" tags on them.

I am now the world's largest supplier of Fiero Getrag Webster racing gears:
Look at the polish on that crank!!!! It was built by "Hank the Crank" at a cost of $2000 for Joe Huffaker! Now THAT's expensive steel.
 Got Getrag?
 Two fully race prepped Getrags.
And for the denoumont....REAL INDY AXLES! That's right, Saginaw gear made 12 sets of heavy duty axles for the original Indy Pace Car and shipped them to John Callies at the arizon proving grounds in 1984. except for the 4 sets used on the Indy Prototype and Real Pace cars as well as the PPG cars, I have all the rest of the sets, 3 of them un-used in their original boxes!

I haven't even finished inventorying everything but among the other goodies: 4 Webster side draft 55 carbs...worth about $1000 each An original MSD ignition and disty set-up extra SD crank spare valve covers, and gaskets all the parts necessary to build 6 more complete race prepped trannys one header valves, valves, and more valves etc. [This message has been edited by Toddster (edited 06-17-2005).]

All up, the retail value is around $120,000. I got the lot for a lot less but I'm not saying how much. I'll be selling off a lot of the stuff but keeping some for my race car and Indy build-up project. Fierobear already has dibs on one of the engines. I still have to inventory everything and price it all. Give me a couple of days on that.

Todd: How do you do it??? BTW, there is a guy up there in you area somewhere who as I understand worked with Huffaker back when these engines were being developed. Might be able to offer you some interesting insight. I'll try to touch base with him. ------------------ FierOmar

I'm renting a small moving van and making a trip out to Morgan Hill in the middle of the night. Seriously though, you said you were getting some good stuff, but I had no idea you were gonna come away with a haul like this!

The race prepped Getrags have the Webster straight cut gear sets. The gears are more strudy that the stock gears and if you look at the picture above you can see that the housing is extended to accomodate them. I have sets of various 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears as well as final drives and 28 spare cases and housings. The ratios vary. I still have to look over them all but I have a few 3.65 finals, at least one 3.94 final, and a few 3.39 final drive gears. My next goal is to find a good local tranny shop who has experience race preping getrags and get a quote for making a few from the parts I have. After talking to Jack about it, he said he had 2 getrags ready built, one for racing and one for a spare. But he never used the spare since the race tranny NEVER broke...that's with upwards of 400hp on it! I'll have more details this weekend when I can go through all of the boxes. You can bet that one of these trannies is going in my next car though!

Na Not Really. Considering that only 5% of Fiero owners do the spending for 95% of Fiero parts bought. You can probably count on one hand the amount of Fiero owners that have really high $$ Fiero's and a 3K $$ Tranny would be a high dollar Fiero part.

I'll take one of the 3.29 Getrags for my '88 Racer. This trans will be put in a race-only SCCA "A" Prepared 4.9 Fiero which will also be used for track days and hot-lapping (exactly what they were designed and built for). Please PM me when you finish inventorying and can determine a final price. I wonder how many others have ever driven a car with a straight-cut gearbox? They are sure not that great for street use - I can't even drive my sons Camaro without a helmet to deaden the noise!! And I definitely wouldn't want to use one of these trans for drag racing, they are not that easy (or fast) shifting, either. G [This message has been edited by cadero2dmax (edited 06-16-2005).]

WOW! You da man! Keep us informed on the Getrag gear repacement idea. If you get the machinist to figure out how to get the gears to be street legal (no noise), you could be sitting on a pile of diamonds. Sincerely, Kevin J. Sullivan kevinsullivan@frontiernet.net 916-600-6482

Great find....... it must have been real hard to keep from screaming in delite as you unpoaded this guys' parts. I have a good friend that has one of the original Huffaker cars. He still races it in Club Racing. I'll bet he'd like to get ahold of one of the gear sets. Archie

Give him my name. I'll be selling a lot of spare stuff as soon as I can inventory everything. As for the rest of the goodies, I couldn't resist opening a few boxes. It was like Christmas. Check some of this stuff out: 4 complete sets of BRAND NEW COSWORTH Pistons (no 4 valve heads unfortunately, but I'm sure I can find buyers)
A set of pistons with "Superod" connecting rods already polished and balanced.
4 brand new, still in the box, .460 lift Intake, .420 lift exhaust Isky Cams
And for dessert, 3 Saenz Limited Slip Diffs!!!! :wow:. (Saenz makes the diffs for REAL Indy race cars) I am not kidding when I say these are worth $1000 each!

To answer a few questions: FieroOmar, if you can hook up with him let me know his name and number. I need all the help I can get. Formula88, the "Race Prep" includes a new detent made from aluminum billet, all new Webster Gears including the final drive gear, machined axle bearing races to accept larger bearings than stock, new heavy duty drive shafts, and more. They aren't chep but they are totally indestructable trannys. Ondrack had over 300hp (depending on engine configuration) pushing this tranny of his through agressive race courses and never broke one. Funkmaster, I like your thinking AusFiero, well...it worked on girls in high school For all of you asking about gear sets, I'll put a complete list together with pricing as soon as possible.
