I have put a fair bit of thought into choosing a car stereo for my fiero. Knowing how big the stock location hole is once stock stereo is removed i am leaning towards another double din sized stereo with dvd player. I am wondering if anyone has one of these installed. or another brand if so post some pics of it in your car. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/E297-6-5-TFT-LCD-All-in-One-DVD-VCD-MP3-FM-TV-Monitor_W0QQitemZ9723731077QQcategoryZ32826QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I think this would look good in the stock location of stereo. For those curious it is a tv mp3 dvd radio etc all in one. dimensions for tv 178 mm length 153mm width 101 mm height dimensions for the stock outer hole is 190 mm width 85 mm height
In order to fit this in the stock location the whole needs to be made higher by 3mm and lower 10mm there needs to be 13 mm vertical play to fit this. And some sort of plate made up to cover 37 mm horizontal 37 mm x 85 mm to one side.
Might do a photo chop later but must take in note vertical space is it possible

It will require some cutting on the HVAC support, but it has been done. Too each his own, but I think those buttons would be WAY too small and fussy to adjust anything while the car is in motion. That would be my concern. Give me big knobs. (That sounds dirty)
I am also putting a 2 DIN stereo head unit into my Fiero but I will be putting a seperate LCD monitor in the dash where the pocket is located in front of the passenger seat. Here is a pic of the head unit.
It has a large easy to read display, large easy to use buttons and plays all the mediums I can think of ever using (dvd, cd, svcd, mpeg3, etc.) including cassette (for those old rare cassettes that we old people still have ).

I put a Kenwood Double Din MP3 player in my 88GT. The hardest part was building the brackets and making sure it sat straight and in the middle. The DD stereo's face is taller of course, but alos about 1" shorter width wise. It is also longer in depth than the stocker. I'm really glad I did it, though I still need to redo the overlays. I velcro'd the remote to the passenger asstray cover, that makes it much easier to adjust than always having to reach, and having the shifter get in the way. Plus it's more comfortable.

Other than the gaps on the side in the first pic, that's the cleanest DD install I've ever seen in a Fiero. Are they "fixed" in the second pic? Kind of looks like it, but it's a bit hard to tell due to the focus.

Very nice install, I am running a high end stereo system so I am going to run a 1/2 din equalizer and fill the enire spot but im also working on a custom dash to complete the entire set up.

The second pic looks like some vinyl covering was made for the trim pieces (there's an air bubble on the upper right of the hvac/stereo surround, that isn't in the first pic). I imagine the vinyl is simply covering the holes.

The laser cut brushed aluminum overlays cover up the holes left on the sides of the stereo. Unfortunately I didn't take the time to install the overlays correctly, and they came out pretty badly. One of these days, when I get around to caring and affording the $120 kit, I will redo them. They do look pretty good though, besides their being off by 1mm or so (bad install), and bubbling (bad install).
Thanks for the complements, I really think it changed the Fiero interior and I can honestly say I am no longer interested in dash swaps.

I originally had the idea of just mounting a pc but i figure i will continue with this idea after seeing this fine job. I also like some of the woodgrain kits available shame to have a gap with a kit though might settle for a small piece of 12mm 1.6 mm guage flat aluminum to cover any gap or i would consider black or grey silicone to cover that small gap.

are they vinyl? Is it a real thin layer of aluminum with a sticker back, or is it just a color with metal flakes in it?

i've done it, but i only tried it because i got a deal on a din radio with a din changer, and also because the first radio i put in was stolen and they broke most all of the "skeleton" that holds the raio and heater controls in.
the positive though, is that i found out that it's possible to put the heater controls at the bottom (with nothing to support it it sat down there anyway), so i reversed them too.
need to work out a trim idea, so it's a little rough, but just saying it's possible. it would make a flip out screen a little better too as far as the shifter blocking the view.

If you say the shifter is in the way perhaps a second screen is needed i am looking for something modern big enough to fill the hole and i think after seeing these pics i could do a quaility install.

They are really thin aluminum with a sticker backing. Well the sticker doesn't stick all that well even with adhesive promoter, and my install was quick and lazy. When I reorder them I'll do it right, and use glue in some places. The rest came out great, except for the ones on the door handle piece, those won't stick for some reason. It actually still looks good, but once you notice the crappy install it sucks. I want to redo it, but that costs like $130, of which I'd rather spend on the new engine..
Also, everyone is saying how it interferes the HVAC and stuff. Mine cleared fine. I just cut the plastic support on the bottom, which in effect lowered the stereo. I also tilted it slightly up, so you still can read and touch it, but with the shifter right there I just use the remote.
