I was looking at a 2006 SONY XPLOD XM-2200GTX 1,200 WATT 2 CHANNEL CAR AMP, and I was wondering from the audio experts out there if this is a decent amp. I'm not looking to blow out the windows or drive the neighbors crazy but I want something with enough ummph to power a couple of 3 way speakers in the dash and a sub woofer and sound fairly decent.

Any imput?
I've had two older sony xplode amps but neither of them were that great. One was good enough for someone to brake into my car and steal it though. I had them both (one at a time) powering a single 10" sony xplode sub and they sounded ok but now I have a old alpine 200watt mono powering it and it sounds alot better. A good stereo shop would let you bright your sub in and hook it up to they're demo amp.
It would probably sound fine but great to one person it crap to another
They're the definition of the word OK. My friend had competition speakers running off a xplod 5 channel and a big sub amp. Never had any problems with either of them. They're dependable but not exactly the best of quality, like anything else sony makes.
I had it in my ebay Fiero. I removed it due to space behind the seat (going to relocated some day). From what I could remember it worked nice hook up to my Satellite Radio.

Unless you are going to get a true "class d mono" amp, then you cant really take any of these "a/b class" amps for anything other than thier price. For around $100, you can get a good amp ready to power your 3 way coaxial speakers, around the tune of 70 watts rms a channel. If you are looking for a "do all" amp, look around for some of the fancy 5 channel amps, as they are fairly cheap and can be a 1 stop solurtion for a well rounded stereo. That amp would be nice for powering 1 giant or 2 large subwoofers, but try not to get bought into the rated wattages as they tend to be relitive to if they were struck by lightning or running on real power generated by a car. The biggest deal with amps that put out tons of power is efficency.
I have some info in my swap thread, check my sig.

Hi all,
Does this mean that the decks they make are OK?

sony is a ok amp but they have really sucked with this last generation of products and I do not trust them one bit. The head units are ok (and by ok I mean price to quality ratio) the amps temd to fail and get a mind of their own. As for the power drain of high watt amps, it all depends on the class like a class b 2000 watt amp will nut pull as much current as a 2000 watt class d amp. I have over 2000 watts of amps 3 smaller ones and 1 1200watt and I am running a single 4ga power and my lights don't dim on the stock 86 gt alternator. but I just recently installed 8000 watts of amps in a thunderbird competing in spl and with just a optima yellow top and a 130 amp alternator the headlights dim ALOT with the engine running. If I wanted a good cheap amp that would last and be a all around amp to cover all your bases the new Pyle Driver series is very effective especialy the 6ch with 4 fullrange channels and 2 sub channels and it can put the power down nicely.

Well it's too late about the Sony head unit, it's already bought and installed and so far I don't have any major complaints about it. On the amp I deceided to pass on the xplod and just use an old 75w Harman amp I had to power just the sub. I had the amp bench tested before I installed it and it turns out that 2 of the 4 channels are gone on it so for just a sub amp it suits my needs. After a year of no tunes in the car this will do until I get tired of it.
Thanks for all your replys.
Paul

Turns out all this was for naught. One week later and someone thought it was a nice enough system and stole the whole thing from my car today while I was in the upull it. At least I had a chance to enjoy some music for a week but now I have no cd's since they took those too.
I may as well just have flushed $200 of my hard earned money down the toilet since some turd won't work for his own sh1t! I guess before I even think about installing another stereo system I'm going to have to get an alarm for the car.

I had a Sony sub and did not like it. Went back to my ADS A8S sub. I have a Sony head unit that is pretty good. To many features to tweak for the average person though.
As a side note my Sony deck plays MP3's so I burn all my music to MP3 disks and never leave an original copy of anything in the car.
