How to install and use PIP.
This question is asked over and over again.
So here’s a step by step with pics.
I’m sure I’m not the first to write this up, but maybe it will make things easier for someone new to PFF.

At the bottom of just about every page is this button.

.

.
clicking it will open a new page
with a link for the download page and instructions
while you are on the page, make note of this address before you proceed to download. Cause you will need it later,
I copy and past it in to notepad
https://www.fiero.nl/fieroforum.pip

now click on the link to take you to the download page

the download page has a link for the download of PIP and for a Patch.
Just get PIP at this time.

.
a save dialogue box comes up, and you want to save it. so click OK
most of the time it is saved to your desktop, but make note of where it’s going.

find where the setup file was saved to and double click it.
the setup wizard will start and click NEXT

.
it will ask where you want to save the program files.
Just let it do it’s thing and click NEXT

.
now it will ask to put a short cut on your start menu
so click NEXT

.
now it will ask if you want a desktop or quick launch icons.
Select both, one or the other, or none,
Remember it will still be in your start menu from the step above.

now it’s ready to install itself.
Click INSTALL

.
it will install itself without anymore help from you.
When it’s done installing,
Click FINISH

.
PFF will start for the first time
And it’s going to want to know where to upload the pics to.
And now you need the address that you made note of before.
You fill this info in the PROFILE field.
So go up to the top left and click “Profiles”
Go down one to “New Profile” and click.

.
and now you need to type in the address (or paste it if you copied it like I said)
and click GET

.
it will look for the address and retrieve a profile from host Kansas.
Once it finishes it will tell you “Profile successfully loaded” and click OK.

now you can start using PIP.
Click on the “Browse” button and find the folder with the pic you want to post.

.
you can double click on it, or click and then press the “Open” button

.
you get a preview of the pic in this box.

.
if you are happy with it. click the “Post It” button

.
NOTE** I have had problems with PIP not being able to upload the pic if I still have it open in MS Paint, or MS Photoeditor. So now I close the program I used to edit the pic before I try to upload it.

PIP will do it’s thing and when it’s finished it will say “Upload Successful”
And click “OK”
This copies the pic’s location information in to your clip board memory.

now go to the text box that you would normally type in and press CTRL-V.
and it should fill in the pics information as well as the { img} and { /img} tags for you.

.
type in extra comments you want to add just like normal and press “submit reply”
and poof.
You pic is up in your comment like magic.

NOTE**
There are size and limitations of 640x480 and it has to be under a certain file size.

Hope this helps.

Have fun on PFF

one other little note.
I find myself always clicking on the stupid “close” button.
I hope cliff put a pop up, “are you sure you really, really wanna close PIP?” window in the next version.

What if you don't use Windows

I wish the board had the the ability to attach posts without having to download, install and then run an external progam. A couple of forums I check in to have the ability to attach images in the same screen you use to create or reply to messages. All you need are a couple of clicks. (Of course, that's a vBoard thing.. Might not work here)..

I'm a Linux user and have to post images on my own web space then include a link in my messages.....

I followed your directions and get a "Run-time Error 13: Type mismatch" upon opening the program. Does anybody have any clue what causes that? I'm running windows xp, but it isn't exactly your typical Dell install. I went through and turned off processes and services I didn't anticipate using when I installed it, and I have my harddrive partitioned with Windows and my antivirus software installed on the C drive and everything else including dry storage (music, documents etc.) on the D drive. PIP gave me guff on both drives.

Maybe if they really tried they could make it more complicated but I don't know how. that is a rediculous amount of steps just to post a picture. My two cents.

talk to the man in charge.

you can post them on what ever server you want and then put the {img} {/img} tags before and after it.

hostkansas is just nice enough to give you the hosting space for free.

I personally like it and think that it is very easy to use - once installed it only takes a couple of seconds to post a pic.

I don't post pictures much, but it gives me the same problem each time. I install the program, then it allows me to upload a picture like once, and then every other time I open up the program, everything works fine untill it goes to upload. It will sit forever at 0 out of 0 bytes.

Thumbs up Buddy, good job. I think
Dumb ole me can post a pic, resizing is a pain. "This porridge is too hot". This porridge is too cold". This porridge is just right".
My problems go much deeper. I want to know how you circle a spot in the picture with an arrow pointing to the thing-a ma-jiggy.

i do it both in two steps.
first i resize it in ms photoeditor and save it at 640x480
then i reopen it in paint and do my drawings.
and then resave.
these two steps just barely saves it under the 100 meg limit. and at the right size.

From a fellow Linux user: Try WINE Windows Emulator (http://www.winehq.com/) available for Debian and Red Hat based systems. The commercial variant is called: Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/). These give all the necessary WindBlows code hooks to run most M$ programs of any importance.

http://www.winehq.com/

http://www.codeweavers.com/products/

Become free of M$! My Fieros have better uses for $250 (the cost of a legal copy of Windows) than Bill Gates does!

Fieros and Linux have a lot in common: Speed, reliability, safety and power!!!!

" I'm running windows xp" - that's it right there

But seriously, this site may help:

Good luck!

Windows -- the Ford Pinto of operating systems! (Poor performance, bad safety and if you hit it the wrong way it will explode - LOL)
