Thankfully Katie and the driver of the other car was okay (a little stiff is all, so far anyway) She was sitting, waiting to turn when the other driver crashed into her. He didn't even slow down at all.

Before the 65 mph body mod

After. Ever see a grown man cry?

The other vehicle.

Sorry to see a nice Fiero get trashed, but I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt.

Make sure you buy back the car from the insurance company (should only be a couple hundred $$). You can part the rest of it out and make a few extra bucks.

Good gawd, I'm amazed that anyone driving that car would be "okay" after that kind of an impact! Looks like the perfect setup for whiplash.

Before the 65 mph body mod

That's a big hit. Glad to hear everyone walked away.
I'm curious to know if the drivers door would still open?
Wish everyone well. Sorry about the loss of the car.
Thanks Gary

Glad everyone is okay. I think most people would be surprised at how well the Fiero held up to such a big hit! What do you plan on doing with it now? Im interested in a piece of it. LMK

Man, I'm really sorry to hear this happened. Happy to hear everyone walked away ok. But you know what they say, a little paint and polish and she'll be just like new. Well maybe just a little more than polish.

Thank goodness nobody was seriously injured ! 65 MPH WOW. Somebody upstairs was looking out for her

At any rate like mr. fiero said there are a lot of good parts still usable toward your next fiero or to part out to others.

Wow... just another testament towards the safety of fiero's. On the other hand, the insurance company will be willing to pay a decent amount if any injuries were sustained because that certainly wasn't "low-impact". Glad no one was seriously injured.

A good friend of mine is a fireman and last summer there were 3 (yup 3) guys in a Fiero drunk of course heading to another bar. There is a smooth dip in the road by the bar and they hit it at a pretty good clip jumping the car and bouncing off a few cars and a tree. The car was a mess (even a piece landed on the near by roof) but all 3 guys lived, he now has a good respect for these car after getting them out of the car. He was quite amazed how strong they are! On another note, glad everything is ok with your wife and too bad another Fiero bit the dust.

Thank God everyone's ok. I'd would definitely recommend everyone getting checked out by a doc, though. That hard of a hit can cause back and neck injuries that don't immediately show up - especially while the adrenaline is pumping.

So Sorry for the loss... It's like loosing a good pal, like a dog. They or it will be on your mind for the longest time. Thinking of what you could have done not to loose it. Or that is what I would do. I hope that you get a pretty good payment from the insurance company.

jake_Dragon is right. It might take a few days for stuff to set in but it can. 3 weeks ago, I was rear ended at a traffic light buy a guy that said he was going 35MPH, the body shop said he must have been going faster than that based on the damage to my car. I was hit hard enough that the frame on the drivers seat collapsed, and my car was shot completely off the road over the curb across a sidewalk and up an embankment (about 50 feet). I was "fine" after the accident other tan feeling like I had been knocked for a loop, refused the ambulance, deputy OK'd, my car to drive, drove my self home, so I was thinking, Ok I am fine.

A day after the accident the pain started along with a whole laundry list of problems to long to go into here. I have missed lots of work I am unable to do any of the things I normally do, like work on cars, mow the lawn, take out the trash, etc. My wife has had to pickup all the slack. We have had to cancel a vacation. I have had tons of tests and the result is I have serveral serious problems that will take a long time to heal if they do at all, could be lifelong, and potentialy could get allot worse.

In a word, It Sucks, so if you are saying your wife was rearended at 65 MPH I suggest you go get her check out throughly. If for any other reason the other guys insurance company is going to be looking for your wife to sign a medical release for them basically saying I am OK, I am not hurt, I won't hold you responsible. They will be in a hurry to get that signed.
Don't mess around see a doctor right away, start with your GP but also insist on seeing a specialist.

I do hope she is OK though, and it very sad to see your Fiero like that. I also agree that you buy it back and sell teh parts or use them on your replacement Fiero.
Take care

I totally agree with that, i was hit like that last summer amd flipped into the oncoming lanes ( though not in a fiero.. was my beloved sebring ) and i didnt feel a thing until several days later. Ended up tearing a ligament in my hand, needing surgery.. hand will never be the same :|

Always take the ER team's offer to goto the hospital, regardless of how you *think* you feel.

( and as everyone else has said, too bad for the car, but its great that no one was seriously hurt.. could have been terrible )

Thank you all for your kind words.
I will try to buy the car back, as i plan only to get deeper into this fiero hobby/addiction.

The drivers door would not open, but the passenger side still does.
The front safety catches on the hood did not activate and the hood still opens fine.

Most of the cause was the guy was speeding up where the highway starts, instead of where the speed is supposed to change. Its a pretty busy road, like a 10th of a mile over the city limit, and the signs are there for that reason. Still it was 10 in the morning (so the sun wasnt a factor) katie was all legal and signaling and all, and had been stopped for some time waiting for an opportunity to make a left turn onto the road. There was a lady who had a veggie stand set up in a nearby parking lot who watched the whole thing, and the other driver admitted full responsibility to the trooper. I'm not sure if he was ticketed as we have not seen the full accident report yet. The guy didn't realize she was stopped and didnt even hit the brakes before he hit the car. Fortunately the guy had not been there 5 seconds earlier or she probably would have been force under the semi she was waiting on to make her turn.

Thanks for the picture clintyrd. I had not seen that one yet. That was the 05 fun fest as i see katie and i were talking to Mike Thorn from St louis. He and his wife Karen, were bringing their fiero to visit us on the 12th and the 13th and to drive with us up to the Mo State Fair for the fiero display.

FIEROPHREK, i had one like that one time

Katie did go to the emergency room as she had a bit of a headache after the wreck, and had some x rays done. She checked out good, but this morning she has a really stiff neck. I have a friend that was in a similar accident (rear-ended at a red light) and her problems developed a couple of weeks after the accident.

Now i just have to get prepared to be rear ended by the insurance company. I'm sure they will try to book it but i have been told to never take the first offer (and probably not the second either) I would buy all the Fieros you could get in excellent condition for what they book for. I think the blue books publishers are paid off by the insurance companys to keep the replacement price down. I think i have a pretty good case though, if need be. I have documentation of the car at car shows and such. I'm going to try for a replacement car instead of a settlement check.

Man these little cars can take a lot and still protect the driver. Glad she is okay. Out of curiosity is the car a manual or auto?

Well I feel better about driving these little cars now... Glad there were no injuries.

Are there any pics of the other car? (I assume it's a car, since the damage is at a low height on the fiero)

It was an auto. Which was perfect for us. She can drive a stick but since most of her driving is within 3 miles of home and just in town, she prefered the auto.

Actually the car the hit her was a mountaineer, ie. ford explorer. You can see it on the other side of the highway in the shot with the tow truck and no fiero. It didnt mess up his car too bad, and we saw him later in the day pulling a trailer with it.

I started out very similar to that the day after my accident. I went to the ER had X-rays and a CAT Scan, ER said my Spine was fine, no broken vertibrae, I just had a sprained neck and "oh by the way you have a sinus infection, Here is a presciption for naproxen and an anti-biotic, NOW THERE IS THE DOOR GTFO!" It's not the ER's job to find out what's wrong with someone, it's just their job to make they are not critical or going to die and if they are to stablize them. it's not real medicine like if you see your GP for a problem and he runs a bunch of tests to run it ground and find the answer.

Go see a specialist, insist on an MRI of the neck at the very least. It took a a visit to a Neurologist, an hour and a half in an MRI machine, 18 x-rays of my head, neck, and back, and a sonagram of my neck to find out what was going on with me. So don't take the ER visit as Gospel.

I waited a year to sign off on the insurance claim. It wasn’t worth the money they offered to know that if something else came up I would be responsible for the bills. Make sure she sees a doctor again in a few days. A catscan is probably a good idea.
I still have the scar from where my head hit the coat hook above the seat. Ouch.

That's a mess. Glad folks are ok.

Don't just let the insurance company take it. You've still got allot of stuff you can move to another car, or sell if you don't want another Fiero.

The insurance company will push to take it. Unless they are giving a really good deal, unlikely, you can push back and get the same or close to it money from them plus use/sell all the parts.

If they want to fart around... Drag it out as long as you can. They can't close the case until you agree to whatever. Dragging it out will make them crazy. They will often eventually agree to allot of things just to close the case on it.

BTW... This is a good thing that Fiero is a two seater... GM and allot of other seat backs are known to colapse when a car is hit hard from behind. The Fiero firewall prevents that from happening. Allot of people have been hurt or even crippeled from seat colapse. The car makers and Feds know about this problem and have done nothing about it. Many current models have the same problems.

We'll keep the good thoughts for your wife. I got rear ended in a Toyota pickup (not nearly as good a seat as the Fiero's, btw.) and wasn't seriously injured, but the truck wasn't hit as hard as your car was. That she was able to walk away was pretty great, let's hope that the rear crush zone of the space frame, the rigid firewall, and the Fiero's seats kept her safe.

99% of the time when they total your car, they offer it back at just a few bucks.. And there are some time limits, you cant stall *forever*...

Insurance company ask you if that was the way the car always was yet? lol I've actually had that happen before. I told 'em "Yup, and just for fun, I smear some of my blood on the side window and seats every day just to be weird." Here's your sign.

The motor stayed where it was supposed to. Other then the fact that you couldnt open the drivers door (passanger door would still open) nothing on the interior got bent even the slightest.

Like someone said before, you can't drag it out forever. You can't even drag it out any longer than the insurance is willing to let you. Most of the time with an old car they will push for you to keep it because if it gets sold as salvage it will go for like 200 bucks. It'll cost the insurance compnay more to tow and set everything up. Don't think you can drag it on forever because you're not getting a fair deal. Most of the time anyone you complain to will tell you that whatever method they are using is fair. Sometimes if you really piss them off, they'll just tow the car, drop it in your driveway and cut you the check, whether you want them to or not.

There must be a check in their somewhere to keep them honest. Unless its just a law suit. Someone just can't claim your car without your agreement. Of course a lawsuit against an insurance company would be almost impossible. But then again we might start mentioning the reoccuring headaches and neck problems.

Yeah there is always a check involved. I was just saying that more than likely they will want to give you the car back. I'd even asked them to waive the fee, usually 100-200 bucks depending on the salvage bid because unless they can get more than that for the salvage, they are losing money.

If you are injured, tell them now. It's better to get it out in the open then saving up it like the ace up your sleeve. Waiting until somethign goes wrong to claim injury is always shady looking will make the insurance company think you're just lookign for a check, that you aren't really hurt and that can change the settlement.
