Does anyone have a radiator fan for an '87 GT, and possibly the relay switch as well?

Are you sure you "burped" the cooling system well? Sometimes that is all it is....

I got tomorrow off, so I`ll clean mine then, although if I run through any dust with a black car it`s like a dust magnet.

I called The Fiero Store 'cause they sell 85-88 cables, and I asked them why they don't have 'em for 84's and they said it's discontinued. I still don't know what the difference is, but it must be something. Guess I'll have to get one from somebody's 84 parts car or have it made. The one on my car only has a few strands of wire left holding it onto the battery, so I suspect that may be the reason for the intermittent starting problems. In fact, it didn't start today when I tried it.

I can't see the other end of the cable, even when I jack it up and crawl under it.

I can't bring it to the Ruckus since I never know if it will start. I'll come Fiero-less.

I don't kow if my 84 parts car has a positive battery cable or not, if it does, then it's yours.

I'm not sure about anything with this car. I'm not much of a mechanic. I think I got the system "burped" properly. The car ran okay last night for 20 miles, but it was moving practically the whole time. It overheated when I was in heavy traffic. I had the fan wired so that I could get it to come on by turning on the headlights. However, it's not even coming on that way anymore. That's why I now think the current problem is with the fan. I think the reason the fan wasn't working right in the first place might be from a bad fan relay. Again, I don't really know enough about cars (and specifically Fieros) to be sure about it. I plan on looking at the fan tonight and seeing if it works if I direct wire it to a battery. I don't really know how to test the fan relay to see if it's working properly.

Sounds like the car needs a good burping to get all the air out of the system. Lift the rear of the car and slowly add coolant until it tops off, put the cap on, start the car for a minute and then repeat this process until its completly full. To test the fan, pull the 2 10MM bolts out the top of the fan mount, pull the complete fan ass. out, might have to remove the coolant recovery bottle. Unplug the connector from the fan, get 2 wires and jump them off a hot battery to the fan. Be carefull cause the fan will go wild on you if it cuts on, this will tell you if the fan is good or not. Or better yet, but on the AC and see if the fan comes on when you cut it on, it should. Really sounds like there is air in the system and it needs a good bleeding.

You've got more than a fan problem. Besides, the car should never overheat even without the fan unless you are sitting still with the engine running and the air conditioner operating for an extended period of time in a high (over 95 degrees or so) ambient temperature. That is why the fan only operates when the a/c is on or an overheating conditon is sensed.

Find out what the coolant loss problem is and you'll probably fix your overheating problem.

For my 86 I went to O'Riellys and got one just a little longer than stock. They had several different prepackaged ones on the rack

By bumper covers do you mean the actual front/rear fascia covers? If so what type are you looking for Coupe or Aero?

I'm going to try to patch it up with Rodney Dickman's reinforcing plate but if it let's go before I get that installed then I'm up a creek. If you want to bring it along I would gladly accept it.

Sounds like the RRR is becoming the Texas Swap Meet.

I don't know about all that. In the wiinter time, (when my a/c is off) I can sit in traffic and watch the temperature gauge climb until the fan kicks on. Anytime the car isn't moving the fan needs to come on or the car will overheat.

Well I really hate to say this but unfortunatly I won't be able to make it. My wife isn't feeling well and i didn't get the paperwork done on the Fiero.

I found out as of OCT. 1 any vehicle sole (weather dealer or individual) will be taxed 6.24% based on the MARKET VALUE of the vehicle. So even though I only paid $200.00 for my fiero, I still have to pay the taxes based on state estimated value. Which in my case Low(1408.00) is 87.00. Plus registration, tags. etc. So Keep this in mind if you buy another vehicle. That includes boats, motorcycles, trailers and anything with wheels.

I have been looking forward to this since this thread started and now that I can't make it, I'm depressed. Especially working so hard to get the car going. I'll try to send pic's later.

Anyway If anyone needs anthing just PM me.

Thanks,
Bob

according to our local "expert" weather guys, there is a chance (60%) of rain Saturday night late. There is a 70% chance of rain on Sunday. Typical- we are in the middle of nice big drought and it rains on the weekend we have this planned.

Finishing up the last minute details. Wendy washed all the shirts and put the goodie bags together last night. 2 of my "judges" backed out last night, so I am trying to find a couple of more, and now I just discovered that somehow my cruise route directions were thrown away by my cleaning crew here at work.

Yee-haw...gonna be a fun scramble day.

See most of y'all tonnite and the rest tomorrow!

Oh yeah...PLENTY of extra shirts were made, so if ya want more, or can't make it and want one, let me know.

THE GIFT CLAUSE.
You only pay $10 if you are 'receiving the car as a gift'. I know plenty of people who will be exploiting the gift clause. Quite frankly I can't blame them. The state is taxing people on a car that they have already received sales tax for AT LEAST once or twice. I'd probably use it myself, but then again, it doesn't look like I'll be buying anything for quite some time.

When did you buy the car? If I remember right, if you bought the car prior to October 1st, the rule doesn't apply. You might want to call and ask.

Yes, please be careful out there on the way here!

Wendy and I are planning on being at George's no later than about 5:15 (actually hoping to be there a little before 5:00)

I hope your wife gets to feeling better Bob, but it sucks you won't be able to make it (and about the tax thing, I was thinking about buying another Fiero here soon ). If I ever get another day off from work we'll come by, I really want to see and get a ride in the Fiero. Maybe if she's feeling better tomorrow you can just make a fake bill of sale and say you just bought the car like 2 days ago, so you don't need stickers or it titled?

I'll see (most of) yall in a couple hours!

(Edit: Not you too Tom! I'm scared, what is this, a pox on dohc owners?!? Hope you get to feeling better soon also.)
