Nice job, Brett! You came up with a solution before I could post mine. I had a pair of GT taillights that I got from a parted out car. The lenses were scuffed up pretty good, and had some slight gouges in them. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I bought some sheets of 800, 1500, and 2000 grit wet and dry sandpaper. I started out with the 800, dipping the sandpaper in a bucket of water about every half minute to keep it clean and to keep the taillight wet. After working out the gouges...about 10 minutes or so of hand sanding...I changed over to the 1500, then the 2000. When done, it looked like your photo of the scuffed lens. I then took some Mequiars Plastic Cleaner, and Plastic Polish, and finished it off. My results were similar to yours...they look like new lenses.
Keep up the good work, and the "buildup" thread....I'm watching with interest!
