I bought an $800 kobalt air compressor to work on my Fiero's a couple months ago. To start off the first time I fired it up the shaft snapped off the motor! Called customer support, they sent me a new one, OK.

Well I got the new motor and installed it and the compressor worked fine for 2 days. Then the motor toatally stoped (bad winding?) wont work at all. I tested it and I have 224.7 volts to the switch and the same to the motor after the switch. So I call customer support again and tell them this and the say OK well send out another motor.

Two weeks later after not recieving it I call back only to be informed that they will not be honoring the warranty because their support person (Hans) had writtin down that I told him I hooked up 240 volts to the system which is over the 230 rating of the motor so warranty is void.

First off, I NEVER SAID THAT! and rather than thinking its possible Hans made a mistake writing it down they called me a liar insisting that I said it!

Second, its not even possible to get a full 240v in a residential

Third , I have 224.7 well within specs

so if anyone who has time 9 am - 5 am mon - fri EST please call:

1-866-242-4298

and let them know you think theyre wrong and you will be boycotting kobalt tools untill its resolved! also my zip code is 49051, thats how they identify customers

I would greatly appreciate it. A person will answer straight away it will only take 30 seconds of your time and will help me save $800. I've already had all my friends and family call to some avail! The last time I called I got to talk to a manager who said he had to give me credit he has never seen anyone go this far and that they had received severall calls already but he still wouldnt correct the issue.

He hasnt seen anything yet!

Tyler

I sent you a PM with some information I hope is useful. If you paid for this compressor with your credit card you should be able to file a dispute over the payment, since their product seems to be a piece of garbage. Your credit card company may be able to make them honor their warranty.

I bought one of their compressors from Lowe's. The motor never sounded right, then one day while we were working in the shop, the motor grenaded with an ear-piercing SCREECH! I returned it, and got a bigger one. The motor in that one doesn't sound all that great, and is louder than we think it should be. I'd avoid Kobalt compressors.
