Put me on the list for the second run also. Simply because I have so much to do before spring that I won't be able to get to the VDC's until next winter. I want a set just not right now.

Just popping in asking is there any headway made on the hinges ready to send to Australia. I got 2 fieros waiting on scissor door hinges {still learning to type}
------------------ Allen Australia 86 gold SE 85 red SE 01161412119530
well, i found a place to get the milling done, i just have to get the $$ for the first few supplies... should be ready to start selling by mid to end of next month
Anyone interested in sending the $$$ for some now? it would help me get started and make the first few that you would get. in other words... if i can get 2-3 people willing to do this, i'll have them ready in 3 weeks to sell.. they are going to be CNC milled, so the starting cost is more than i have right now, so if i dont get some help.. it could be another month.. i hate to keep all of you waiting...
if anyone is interested in helping me out, pm me please.
Whats the price? Are the pics above the "finished product"?
I really think you need to build a good set. Install them. And then show them off. Then people will buy them
$650 and the pics i had posted are close to what they will look like, but they will all be CNC machined... they will look much more refined, i need the $$$ to start getting them machined, the starting fee is around $500 + materials.. first hinge... not both. i will send them to someone on here and they will post pics, that way someone else besides me will tell you what they think about them. i need the rest of the $$$ to get started... and if 3 people would help me out it would make things so much easier, and it would be alot faster....

So basically you want 3 people to give you 500 dollars each for a product that isn't done yet... Sorry if I seem a little effy on the subject, its not the first time someone has been scammed by something like this. 1,500 dollars is not the kind of money to be thrown around... Especially by someone that hasn't really been on the forum very long. No offense, but you don't really have a reputation yet... I am not even 100% positive you even have a fiero... I missed a page or two, but I have been following this from the beginning and I don't remeber you stating that you ever had a fiero and that you were going to "Get one" .... Just my ramblings.
But again, 1,500 dollars is alot of money. If you don't have a fiero ( you may..) how do you even know they will work on the car......

i dont have a fiero, i have an 86 camaro i've been trying to sell for a fiero.. the hinges will work on one, and i will be sending the first set of hinges to someone on the forum and they will tell me if i need to change anything and what, i didnt think anyone would be willing to send me that kind of money since i havent been here long, i was just trying to get started on making them faster, if i dont get any help with the startup fee... then its going to take another month. i was just trying to speed it up a bit i might end up just getting a loan or something to get started.. not sure. but i'm still working on it..

If you've done a "search" you would have known that the two cars DO NOT INTERCHANGE. PERIOD! That was what Ross was trying to do when he first performed the VDC kit on a "Real" Fiero. His goal was to make one VDC kit to fit both door types and cut down on the cost of materials and R&D. How do I know? I used to call Ross nearly every week.

i have done the research, i've gotten the measurements from a fiero, and my kit will work on more than just the fiero... and any car with small modifications.

You miss spelt the most important word in that post... I've talked with a few people.. You are asking 650 dollars for hinges that are unproven, requiring 250 dollars worth of struts that you haven't tested them with... Chances are likely that you have never removed a door on a fiero. Our cars are quite different... Hence why the tested hinges require some assistance to work on them. Honestly I don't think your hinge is even close to being strong enough. Let alone being able to mount in a fiero. Before you start asking for money. Get a fiero, ripp the doors off them, and do some more "Researche", hinges on wood are only worth as much as there weight in steel. I hate seeing scams.....

there's too much adjustment between each fiero to make it bolt on. you could take madcurls hinges right off his car and there's no way they would bolt on and line everything up on a different car. the double slot idea is a good idea for many things....but not hinges. too much wear involved there. bottom line is. these are not proven yet. on any car let alone a fiero. make a set and give them to a guy who has a fiero and get them adjusted. take them off and put them on another fiero and you'll see the difference. it's subtle...but noticeable.
i was just trying to speed it up a bit, i dont NEED any help.
there will be alot of adjustments and they arent Just bolt-on.. you line everything up, drill holes, bot-on. very simple...
250 worth of struts? where did that come from? and they are unproven on here, but they will work. and the thing with the wear of the hinges because of the design, a mechanical engineer helped me with the design, and he told me himself that he liked it and its one of the best designs he's seen out of all the lambo/vertical door hinges. they will have bearings.. they wont wear as much as you might think. let me know if you have any more questions
I really didn't mean to be harsh by my statements, I like seeing new ideas, and products being taken on through projects. However you must agree with me that you asking for money in your current situation was a big no no... Its a love hate relationship, I just really don't want to see anything happen to our members. Now, if you would like to get a fiero and try them out thats great, keep in mind you don't need much for a car, my parts car was 200 dollars cdn.... Good luck on the project, I do hope things come through, but you really need to test them YOURSELF, before you take anyones money, or send them to someone else to testing on their fiero...
Thank you for listening to my rant.

i'm a mechanical engineer myself. and i've played around with many different ways of moving the doors. the best design i've found, and the one that i keep coming back to is the decah style. it's hard to beat. now, it could be built at a cheaper cost, sure, but right now nobody else even compares. i'm not doubting you. i'd love to see you prove me wrong. and maybe they won't wear as much as i think they will, but i bet they'll wear more than you think they will. my point is, how did you run the calculations without knowing all of the parameters? like the weight of the door? the overhung moments? how many cycles are in the calculations for wear? twice per day, four times per day, six times per day.......?

I don't see why you don't have lots of pictures for people to see? I've read through this, and you talk about things you've had to change, or improve, but nothing for people to see your progress. That's all everybody wants. Because I'm interested in some, even possibly the urethane ones you mentioned. But nothing has been shown on progress or changes, and the price keeps going up. There's somebody on ebay who sells a kit for $180 plus shipping, and has been selling them, and has positive feedback. Why don't you have a build thread for people to see? That's all I think why people are skeptical. If you have one hinge you're working with. Test it on your car, take pics, show people that its good and works, then people would be more inclined to send you money.

when i started designing these, i designed them to handle about a 200lb door. i will be testing more before i sell them, i wont sell something unless its a good product. i want people to be happy with them, not mad at me cuz it broke... the only problem with the decah style hinge for me is, its patented.. i have to find something that isnt. and my design works, its different, and if it does wear... the parts that wear come apart easily and can be replaced with parts from about any hardware store... i know you would have to take them off of the car to replace the parts, but would you rather have hinges you had to spend $100+ on after they wear to make them like new again? i'm not saying its the best design... but for the money it is. and you never know.. it might end up being the best, i'm not completely done with them yet, i might have a few small modifications left to make them better and i'm always open to suggestions

I've posted pics, but they were on my cardomain so i removed them, i will get some pics tomorrow and post them on here.
Those kits for 180 on ebay... would you really trust them? they arent making any money off of them if they are qaulity.
As for the urethane.. i'm not going to make them in urethane, i'm sticking with steel.. its already proven.
Price keeps going up? its $650 and its staying there. has been for 2 months..
I dont have a build thread because I dont have a car to put the hinges on besides my camaro, and everyone keeps saying they are completely different, so i dont think that would go over well..
I can see i'm not going to get any help from anyone on here and for good reason, but i'll still get started on them in a month or so.. I was just trying to get it going sooner..
I'll be sending them to someone on here to test/make modifications and find the best struts for them, then I will be selling them. all I can do when I dont have a fiero here to test them on.. Anymore questions?

All I'm saying is, people want to know what you're all about. All we do is hear about things. If you put the hinge on a Camaro and demonstrated, and they saw a working product, they'd be more relieved then to just get posts from you on here. And as far as price, you started at $450-500, and now up to $600-650. What's not to say when all is said and done, the price is up to $750. As far as the one on ebay. He's been selling them on there for about a year of what I've seen, and has positive feedback on them. And if someones to purchase them from him, and they're bad, he can send them back and get a refund, or file a claim on ebay. If someone spends $500-650 here, on a product they haven't even seen, and you disappear, then they're out that money. At least if you buy something from a business, its under a warranty. That's all I'm saying. Show everybody what you have, put it on a Camaro and prove it works. I know that's another car thats a rare find to have scissor doors. I had a 98 Firebird I wanted to put scissor doors on, and that was one kit that you could never find, and I don't know why because Camaros and Firebirds are pretty popular cars.

I hope it didn't come off like I was giving crap, cuz that's not what I was trying to do. Lastnight I was reading through this from when it started up until now, seeing what was being done and all. So far since it was started in October, I've only seen two pictures, and like someone else said, just on wood. I want to see it from the start, and get work in progress. People make build threads on changes to their cars, ie. engine swap, chopping the top and making a convertible, etc. They have build threads showing progress, showing on the car what they've done, from step one to completion. That's what's making people skeptical, cuz they're not seeing anything. I'd like to see a scissor door kit fabricated for the Fiero, cuz I'd like that. I think the scissor doors are awesome. But not seeing it even tested on a car or anything, makes you less likely to send money to somebody. Too many people get scammed nowadays, not saying you're doing that by any means, but still, if I started a thread saying I'm going to build something you're interested in, are you easily gonna send me $500? That's all everybody is really saying, I guess I'm just being more blunt about it. If you lived closer, I'd give you a junk fiero I have without hesitation.

i'll get some more pics but i wont have one of a "finished" product for awhile, because it will be CNC machined, and i have to get the rest of the money for materials and startup fee (for the CNC),all of the peices of steel will be 3/8" thick if anyone was wondering. basicly everything will be 3/8".... i'll try to get some pics up later but they will be of the same hinge that was on the wood.. so let me know what you want to see/know? and i'll get pics of it.

alright, well i'll try to get the first set made and put them on my car. is that what you want? like i've said, all i've been trying to do with asking for 3 people to send me the money for the first 3 sets is try to speed things up, because i had said before i would have them ready in Jan. and now its Jan. and i dont have all of the $$ yet.. i was just trying to keep my word. but without help, it will still be mid Feb.

Nobody has access to a waterjet machine or a plasma cutter that could cut out the shapes??
Heck if anyone here has the shapes already and KNOW they fit a Fiero I myself would be all over it..
Would give me something to WELD.. lol
Rob
plasma wont work for the main part... thats what i already used and it is too rough, might need a better plasma too but thats beside the point lol.. the problem is if everything isnt exactly the way its suppose to be in the slots it wont work right. and there is no one around here with a waterjet machine, but there is someone with a CNC mill.

I have an idea for you, just a suggestion...so you need say.....$1500 why don't you take out a small loan at that amount and build your hinges....then if they dont pan out you don't owe ppl money...just the bank...and pretty well everyone owes the bank money...but if, or shall i say WHEN they pan out...you show everyone here how well they work, what kind of top quality they are and then you sell tons of kits making loads of cashola, then paying off your loan and building your credit....
once again...just a suggestion...

Godfather had it right the first time... These are what yours should look like..
I have a 42-ton press and two Fieros with 4 doors un-mounted at this point...
If you think I cant make a set of these after reading my pages then WOW !
Then again this post started on 10-27-2005 and its now 1-11-2006 lol
Rob
i dont have a fiero yet, and what does a 42-ton press have to do with anything with these? oh and btw.. mine shouldnt look like those, that style is patented. i think i've been over this before.. i came up with a different way that will work just as good or better. why do i have to say this like every week??
I should find out when i'll have them ready sometime this week. workin on the patent right now.. then i'll find out what its going to cost to get the part i need made. anyone want any special pics? like of different parts on the hinge? let me know.
All I have to say is how great you handled the bombardment of questions and critisism. Seems to me you are pretty good at keeping your cool and staying focused on the project. An attitude and a mentality like that and you will do just fine with your project.
