Very nice Archie kit.... The red one on Archie's site looks too high off the ground.... mught be the camera angle or the way I'm seeing the bumpers.... Just realized no trunk space or spare tire?

This one is not one of Archie's bodies, it's from ASPP. Archie's car has the roof modified, with the cut-in doors. On this car the roof is retained in its stock position. Archie's car also has the early nose, that's probably why it looks taller in front. They changed the nose when they realized it created too much lift at higher speeds. I know there are tons of frame mods on his car also...maybe he'll chime in and tell us how much he lowered his version in the rear. Suitcase?...spare tire?...we don't need no stinkin' suitcases or spare tires!LOL PHIL

I kept the '85 cradle and bought lower arms from Held with the bump steer correction built in. Struts are converted to coil overs. I also got new hubs converted to the Ford pattern, that helped by being able to use pin drive adapters with the Ford pattern and also I was able to use standard Wilwood hats when I put together my brakes. Shock towers retain all the factory geometry...just raised them 3". PHIL
Good job Phil. We've been pursuing the same rebody on our Formula. Is that the NAF instrument panel? Did its installation present any problems? What modifications did you have to do for the rear hinges? Thanks

Yes, that is the NAF dash. It fit great, I just had to trim it some so I could slide it in between my front roll bar verticals. For some reason, there is no trim piece to cover the point where it meets the steering column. I'm going to make a piece to dress that up. I'd say the dash is a necessary option to complete the GT40 look. If you are interested in dropping the rear of the car like I did, I can post some pix of the cradle mods...it's actually easier than it sounds. (Basically you just cut the front arms at the same length and switch them side-to-side, turned upside down...takes out exactly 3". Rear is a little more involved). I do not know what you would have to change with regards to the stock motor, since I did the v-8 convertion...but there is plenty of room on top. You would also have to extend the factory shock towers up 3", but you could do that without totally removing them like I did. I did install the old trunk hinges at first when I fit the body (the template supplied did not line up at all), but ultimately threw them in the garbage and did my own with heim joints instead.

Phil - Nice Work. Really nice. I have the 8th kit NAF (prior to going to ASPP) built ... picked it up in Mesa, AZ back in 1990. The link below takes you to a shot of it at Carlisle a few years ago. I envy the chassis work you've done. I lowered the rear of mine in a similar fashion by fabricating some 4" tall top-hats, re-arching the frame members, and raising the whole cradle 2-1/2". I have a little more height under the MKII rear bodywork than you do in the MKI, which allowed for taller top-hats. In the front, I used Ryan Motorsports (before they sold out to Held) drop-spindles and ST lowering springs, and had to re-arch the front frame members as well. The GT40 front fenders provide sufficient room for those mods. My car is close to the ground ... can barely drive over a piece of 4x4 lumber ... the roof tops out at 44" above the ground. http://www.supermotors.net/vehicles/registry/me...
BTW, my car was used at Carlisle for a couple years by the former east-coast ASPP rep. Had my car on display, and ASPP had the raw body parts laying around a stripped Fiero chassis the first year. I have a photo somewhere of Archie and me standing at the rear of my car. Another year, the ASPP rep brought the then-new MKI car and showed it next to mine. I'm guessing this was back in the spring of 1994 and 1995.
Here's another couple links of a kit car magazine article of the 1994 Fiero gathering at Indy. My car is shown (was red back then, though the pic is B&W), and I can be seen in the photo located at the top-right of the second page. http://www.supermotors.net/vehicles/registry/me... http://www.supermotors.net/vehicles/registry/me... Phil Huffman wrote that mine was "one of the Ford GT40 rebodies" at the event. Actually, mine was the only GT40 there. FWIW, I'm starting an engine swap to fit a Northstar engine & 4T80E transaxle in the back of mine.

I'm not into guys choppin' up Fieros for kits to much, but this one is the exception to the rule. This is one serious lookin' conversion ! Cool.....real cool. Man, I'd love to see this at Carlisle. I know its far from you, but just take her out and open it up, you'll get there in no time if it runs as quick as it looks.. and I'm sure it does. Heck, you can even stay over at my house, just lend me the keys ! Beautiful converson job, you get the trophy for this one!!!!!

That is the best looking GT40 Fiero conversion I have seen yet. (without replacing the whole roof, I mean)
Just for kicks, can someone do a lower roof photochop on this car???? Just a mild one. Then I think it might be a little more proportional to the real deal.

Beautiful! I really love the wheels. They are the perfect finishing touch. And that's some wonderful piping wizardry on those headers! Please, more info. More pics!
