Started a thread in Tech section asking for help with re-assembly, we're gonna have a lot of questions and would like to do it all in one thread. Really appreciate if some of the 2.8 experts would keep an eye on the thread and help as much as possible with identification of parts, their appropriate locations, proper installation, and just general tips and suggestions.
When you stick the pickup and screen thing into that brand new oil pump, take it down to you're favorite muffler shop and have them tack weld a couple of spots so that that pickup can't fall out.
That brand new pump, btw, came with a reman'd engine I bought about five years ago. I had a hi-vo pump on the shelf, so I used it.

Thanks for the tip Brian, Surge has a little 120volt arc welder here and I was thinking about getting him just to bump a little tack on that. I've heard the nighmare stories of the pickup falling off and the engine starving. Should be posting a pick of that bad boy installed tomorrow! Appreciate it and I think we're gonna go ahead and throw the new fuel filter on also, I had installed a new one when I bought the car but it can't hurt to go ahead and change it again this soon.

I've been following that thread and hated hearing that the effort didn't pay off! Wish you could have made it down this week, I didn't play but some of my little brothers friends came over and they thrashed for a few hours. If your still looking for V6 parts get me a list and I'll see if there's any goodies layin' round.
Should be some pics to post tomorrow! ever onward

We had an absolute fit today just trying to get the waterpump installed. While torqueing the waterpump to the listed specs it cracked, off to the store to pick up another one, put it on and broke a bolt off! Third time was a charm!
[This message has been edited by DRA (edited 01-13-2007).]
Waterpump wasn't faulty, it was Surges fault, he has to follow the torque specs and likes to go with the maximum suggested! Actually there is a part near the top of the front cover where a bolt runs through the water pump and into the block but the front cover does not go behind the water pump at that point (did that make ANY sense?). Thats where the pump cracked, I think it was more like operator error than defective waterpump LOL! Things are moving slowly but they are moving!

I have been following this thread (along with my brother) and I am happy to see that it's all coming together. I am curious though.... do we have to do the paypal thing to send you some funds? I would not prefer to use them. I wanted to send you a money order or something like that. I would love to help you out. I have been ther and done that many a time. Good luck with all the little odds and ends.

The trouble with the water-pump is that you have the wrong bolt installed.
The proper bolt has a stud coming out of the top. You put the bolt into the cover, the head of the bolt fills the space between the pump and the cover. The reason for this bolt is so that if you replace the pump in the future you will mot loose the seal between the cover and hthte block. Since you did not have the proper "spacer" you were crushing the ear of the pump into the space.

Thats weird, looking at the untouched 2.8 out of an 86SE, Surges 88GT, and my 87GT, none of them had anything behind that ear. We thought that was the ultimate in bad design, but I guess all three of the ones we had here for reference had been changed. Mine and Surges both have the torx bit bolts, with the exception of the two that hold the little guide bracket in place, in them so how would that have been a stud?

Some of the very early 2.8's (82/83) has no space there, they just used a cover with no notch. It caused so many issues with front cover leaks due to water-pump replacement that they added the space and the stud. The part number for the stud is 14100628, not sure if it is still available though. If there is a gap there with no nut head as a spacer, someone has replaced it with the wrong bolt at some time in the last 20 years.

heres to wishing Betty's engine lookied like that!! *wish wish wish*
Amazing what a can of spray paint will do! LOL
It's been slow going but I feel like I will get a few years minimum of trouble free service by keeping this build stock. Was real excited about this car when I was able to work and had big plans to add some ponies but am thrilled at this point just to see a stock rebuild come together!

Hey no problem... I know what it's like not having the funds to fix a car. I just hope to see you and your car at the 25th lol.
If the body is willing I hope to be able to attend some of the big Fiero events this year that I never have been able to in the past! Work schedule won't be a problem this year! LOL I probably need to start looking at what events I want to try to attend so I can make sure the Doctors appointments don't interfere! Surge likes to hit Daytona so I'm sure I'll tag along for that assuming the car is fine. Run for the Hills has been a big dissapointment for me every year, it's always some reason why I can't make it, thats something I want to try to make this year. Don't know where to begin!
Another update. 12 members of Pennocks have donated $851.13 to date. Total project cost will probably top out at around $1500 even with the parts I initially had on hand. Thanks to those of you that have helped me to get this far!
Surge (suufmeister) and Richard (whadeduck) are planning on putting the motor back on the cradle and into the car this weekend, if anyone can make it here to give a hand please let us know!

Can't give Surge a plus in his ratings, cause I already did.
Richard has a brand new shiny plus in his column, tho.
I've tried giving everyone who has been supportive (not just with funds, labor, and parts but even with advise and kind words) a positve, problem is most everyone already had a positive rating from me already! The exception has been some of the newer members that I was able to give positive ratings to and all I can say about them is they seem to be the kind of people that will continue to make this one of the best enthusiast sites on the net. I hope to be able to give back or pass on some of the help that has been given to me in the future. I've seen a lot of changes on this forum over the years, seen a lot of folks come and go, and then come back! But one thing that seems to have stayed the same over the years is the basic love of the Fiero and a kind of brotherhood that I have not seen in most other car forums and clubs. Seems like for the most part Fiero guys and gals are the cream of the crop!

Hi DRA. Do you nead cmplict motor 2.8? I do not have wireharnes but you can uset the old one.Engine have about 75k mil.
I appreciate the offer, I think we have gone to far at this point to change direction. We've just about got the motor back together at this point, hopefully this weekend it will at least be back on the cradle.
I can't name anyone off the top of my head that is in desperate need of a 2.8 right now, seems like BobadooFunk might be in a pinch with the black GT he's working on, but if you could, please list it in the mall and keep the spirit of helping out other members going! Thanks, David
To be quite honest the only thing thats not new on this engine is the injectors, vacum lines, EGR valve, MAP, distributor, ingn module, coil, throttle position sensor, fuel pressure regulator, and the egr tube. The ingn module and coil are less than a year old and the a/c compressor is fairly new.
The block and heads have been remanufactured, the 3 temp sensor/senders, oil pressure sending unit, plugs/wires/rotor/cap, air charge temp sensor, PCV, air filter, o2 sensor, stock cat back exhaust (without tips), A/T lockup selenoid, reman starter, reman alternator, belts, hoses, are all new. I've spent quite a bit on PB blaster, high temp paint, parts cleaner (price a 5 gallon container), paper towels, etc, etc, the little things that add up. Would like to have replaced or have the injectors remanufactured and new MAP and TPS, but I've dug myself so far in a hole right now that there just is not any money left for anything. Maxed out the balance I had left on credit cards to try and make sure all the parts were here this weekend.
What I really need help with now is the financial end of this project and the labor, a set of remanufactured or new injectors or new MAP or new TPS would be great, but what I really need right now is money. As crude as that may sound I'm just being honest. Thanks for listening, and thanks again to everyone. David

Plane ticket, if it was a reasonable price, would probably be to Atlanta GA or Columbia SC, very few people here in Augusta use the local airport because it is so much cheaper to fly in and out of Atlanta or Columbia and they are only 1 to 2 hours drivetime from Augusta. Augusta airport is somewhat of a joke but they keep pouring the money to it. I appreciate all you have done to this point, it's a lot more than the majority have done. Maybe we can meet this summer, I'm hoping travel will be an option once the car is finished.
If you happen to have them handy then great but please don't go out and buy them, you've done more for me already than I ever would have expected! Just try to get yourself down here and help Surge get this thing back together! Thanks again, Dave
P.S. you know there are other things in life other than Fieros, they just aren't as much fun!
