Took the ignition module in and it tested bad. I had them test a new one to test their test equipment LOL, a new ignition module got us going!
Ran it for 20 minutes at 2000-2500 rpm for cam break in, the timing is set to 10degrees but the idle still seems a bit high. I think it's around 1200 - 1300 rpm. We're gonna call it a night and install the exhaust tomorrow along with tieing up a few other loose ends.
It's looking good so far!

Glad to hear that you got it to run! I have a fixer upper that apparently sat a few years without a battery. It took a couple weeks of running it for a few miunutes a day before it finally started to slow down at idle after I would guess 15 to 20 minutes of running. (D*** pine needles everywhere in engine compartment meant I turned it off quick! It also took a couple days to get the coolant filled and burped, replace oil pressure sender, etc.) The first time it came down to 1000 and the exhaust manifiolds quit glowing I was shocked. It is currently in hibernation but comes to idle much quicker now. My guess then is that the ECM is still learning. I am definitely not an expert by any means though!

I'm sure once we get the exhaust installed and check all the vacum lines things will start falling into place. Can't wait to get it out on the road! We set the timing with the ECU in a closed loop, the car has yet to be run otherwise so it hasn't had a chance to start re-learning yet, hopefully this weekend it will be on the road!

Appreciate it! Although the project itself is coming to a close the financial part of it is still hanging over me like a dark cloud LOL. But right now I'm not gonna let that spoil my moment!

so... what time were you up and running out the door this morning? i'm guessing by 7am.
Just now getting started, Surge is on his way over now and I'm running the power and air lines out to the car as well as getting the radio going. I'm getting sick but I should be able to rest up this weekend if everything gets buttoned up this afternoon.

The exhaust is installed, idle now drops to 900rpm when it gets up to operating temp. May check the timing again after a shakedown run but right now we still need to put the rotors/calipers/e-brake and tires/wheels back on. Tomorrow!
I'm very tired right now, running a low grade fever and sinuses are messed up. Really need to take it easy but we're so close right now.

Excellent! I'm happy to hear that everything went well.
Now that the cam has been broken in, you need to go ahead and change the oil and filter. It doesn't take long for all of that moly lube to completely plug an oil filter. When that happens it goes to bypass, and everything "new" that comes along goes right back into the oiling system. When you change it, it wouldn't hurt to pour in a pint of GM EOS.
After 500 miles, change it again. Don't worry about any more supplements.

Congrats! Y'all done good!
Thanks for the advise, I really didn't think about that! Still would like to have Scott (psychosurfer), Surge (suufmeister), and myself give it a good once over to make sure all the details have been taken care of properly, check the timing again and do that oil change. Really anxious to get it out on the road but at the same time I want to make sure everything is kosher! Appreciate all the assistance!

David,Take it easy!On you,not the car.Having a good car won't do you any good if you're not well enough to drive it.Also I want to go out to eat not visit a sick man and have to order takeout.

Plenty of time to rest now! We took it out for a brief run today, over to Surge's house to grab his camera, to the carwash just to spray the dust off, to the park to snap a couple of pics, and back home. No problems, temp stayed good, oil pressure seems to be a little high but nothing I am concerned about (just not used to seeing a good oil pressure reading probably!), volts look good, A/C is functioning (not that it was needed this evening), seems to be shifting fine, all in all everything seems great! Still would like to re-bleed the brakes, they seem a little soft but they are working fine. Will probably spend the better part of next week cleaning up the driveway and tools. Might take a short cruise tomorrow on the highway to help things settle in. Big thanks to all who have had a hand in this and hope to have the opportunity to thank a lot of you in person this spring/summer!
Surge should be posting a few pics later.
Some other good news I got today was that Kelly, my girlfriend, will be starting work Monday at an art gallery in Aiken SC. She closed her shop at the end of November and has been keeping us both going on her savings! She's excited to be going to work for someone and not having the stress of actually running the business herself, she was owner/operator of her own Framing/Art shop for about 18+ years and was growing quite tired of having to deal with the whole operation by herself.
Again thanks guys and look for a couple more updates on this thread before I let it fade away!
Looks great and I'm really glad everything's running well. I especially like the looks of those helicoils in the trunk-side exhaust manifold. Looks like a real pro took care of those.

AWESOME!! even I thank you all for helping DRA out!! i hope to meet as many as possible if i make it to D7!!! im so glad you got it running well again!! seriously.. to see a broken Fiero up and running nicely again makes me feel good, especially when good people come together to make it happen!!
Surge deserves the credit. I was only there for like four days out of the whole thing. I didn't really do that much. Surge be da man. Between what Dave could do and what Surge did, they pulled the motor and cradle, refurbished, cleaned, painted, or replaced everything, and then put it all back together. The few things I was able to chip in seemed of little consequence when you consider what they did.

I'm just glad he got it out of the driveway. You should see the dip at the bottom of it. I was thinking how ironic it would've been for Dave to get the car wedged in and stuck at the bottom of the driveway after all of this. lol Of course, I'm a flatlander from the beach. So I'm not use to seeing topographical changes.

Luckily everytime he backs it out of the driveway it only scrapes the guard and not the actual nose. The car does sit very low. But it has a real nice agressive stance to it. You can't tell from the pictures though.
Thanks for your help Richard. Don't kid yourself, the help you offered was very much needed. Plus the 6+ hours round trip you had to make to give it.... You Da Man!
Does the hi-temp paint seem to be holding up alright?
Seems to be actually holding up good on everything except the Y-pipe, it krinkled up really bad and that may have had something to do with the number of coats I put on it. I will rub some of the loose stuff off after a few more heat cycles but it appears that there may be a good coating under all the loose stuff. The head pipe all the way back to the tips looks fine except where we scuffed it up a little installing it. The block/heads/accessories/etc all look good still. Keep in mind the directions for cam break in were to run the motor at 2000-2500 rpm for 15 to 20 minutes and that was at initial startup with only the y-pipe on, so that may have had something to do with the y-pipes appearence.
I'm going to stay in bed and watch movies today, I'm wore out and relieved that the worst is over. Tomorrow I'll start wiping down tools and straightening out the driveway at a leisurely pace. Or maybe tuesday, no rush. Now to figure out
BTW, I know who to call if I have an exhaust manifold leak, you do supply a warranty on your work don't you Richard? LOL
Dude.... I want your car lol. It looks B-E-A-utiful. Good Job and I am happy to see everything is working well. I hope you have so much fun, and the cost of the rebuild gets paid quickly.
