OMG !!!!!!!!

You didn't just say that !!!! Yeah because they make cam's for them to spin to 7k when they loose power after 4k

If your loosing power past 4k you have issues. And you cant tell me such a 3800 so to speak "gu-ru" such as yourself would ever blab such a thing on Club GP, they'd laugh you right of the forum.

You'll have to come to Minnesota & get a ride in a REAL 3800. Meanwhile put down the crackpipe.

you wanna race sure no problem....what kind of budget do you want to set??? i havent done anything spectacular to my motor at all...just a N* tb-which some say doesnt do squat unless you port your sc and intake and i have to agree...its more for show...and i dropped to a 3.5 pulley...again more just for show cuz the stock 3.8 is ugly as hell...drop a number lets do some go fast goodies on each of our motors and see what the result is????? tim

Well at the moment I have not spent much money on the motor at all. All of the work was done by me for nothing except for the cam which had to be replaced already. The intake will also be custom but that is mostly because of lack of space for the stock style being that the car has a 5 speed, lines that run to the front to use an auto tranny radiator as an oil cooler, and an inline filler for coolant. I like the idea of way the stock 4.9 is setup with the throttle body on top of the motor. I am going to use this as an advantage to make a short custom intake that will pull cold air through the decklid. As for looks, a enginecover will be incorporated into the intake to give the whole engine bay a clean look.

I've done..
Small bump up with the cam ~280 lift - $180 but stock cam was bad so it was necissary
valves de-shrouded and all sharp edges knocked down
Heads on intake and exhaust sides gasket matched
New gaskets, bearings, rings
custom chip
intake - working out the details now
"Y" cat instead of "Y" pipe, stock style catback

Thats it. Minor work that didn't cost me much of anything except for the normal stuff to get it on the road. I may still go for some stronger valve springs to get me to that 6k redline that you are already at. My 4.9 will not run out of breath between 4-5k like the stock ones tend to do. Total spent ~$1000 including the mounts and other install parts so I may need to spend some more on mods to get up to where you are at now.

Are you running emissions stuff on yours? I had to. Got a build thread? Mine in sig.

This could be fun! I must warn you though I have been racing since I was 6 years old. My first motor cycle (got it at 4) had training wheels on it. No joke. Mom was PISSED when she found out dad got me one.

------------------
84 SE auto. - a fun original
85 SE V6 4 speed - stock, fully loaded - daily driver
85 GT 4 speed - build thread
88 Coupe 5 speed - runs and drives, needs work, patiently waiting for its turn.

just read your build thread and i ust say nice work... its cool when you have the access and skills to be able to do things yourself...me i had fieroflyer do my 3.8sc install..so no build thread...now my next car i have built i am tackling most of the install myself..aside from the wiring.. that i will leave to dan again...i too have been around auto shops most of my life so i am not scared to pick up a wrench and have at it...i do have a spare 3.8sc motor that i have major build plans for but my daily driver 86se set up i think will stay pretty much as is....with maybe a few minor changes
again nice work...and yes i am running full emissions...but not on the next one...tim

I was obviously referring to stock 3800's, which is what I am stuck with until somebody wants to pay me to fix their computers.

Thanks. I am one of the lucky ones that does have access to almost everything I need. I am very thankful for that. I'm doing more to this car then any other fiero as of yet. We've done a couple of build up, 2.8-3.1 and a 2.8-3.4, that were a lot of fun but this is the first real swap we have tackled. I just can't bring myself to let anyone else do the work on my cars. It's just too much fun for me to let someone else have it all.

I'm thinking my 3800 wont have emmissions stuff either. It will probably be going it to the 88 coupe. There is no emmisions in the area where the cars are being built just where I live which is 125 miles away from that. But the garage is almost done and that means I will no longer be limited to the hours the shop is open. Cant wait for that.
