Lol, knowing Skitime, I bet that mailbox is the only one in the neighborhood with a VCAS (vehicular collision avoidance system)... dang, hit button too soon.
Kohburn, how much would you charge to duplicate that upholstery pattern?

This might be a good place to ask this question...
I also have an '84 Fiero SE that I'm slowly working on. It has the same seats as the ones we see getting worked on here. Luckily, mine are in excellent shape with no tears and believe it or not, hardly any wear at all. Unfortunately, the moron who owned the car before me decided to sit dirty, oily parts on the passenger seat. What is the best way to remove this filthy mess? Is there an upholstery shampoo that is (pardon the pun) head and shoulders above the rest?
By the way Kohburn, my '84 looks just like yours and I'm enjoying reading about your progress.
what you may want to try is one of those littl ehandheld steamer vacuums (normally used on carpet) something like this yopu can get em locally from like sears and such - that or some simple green and a lot of blotting

I use Simple Green for a lot of things, but I guess I'm surprised that no one suggested anything else for use on auto upholstery.
I was thinking of renting one of those carpet shampoo machines which come with the upholstery attachment. However, on second thought, I'll instead try applying Simple Green with warm water and a stiff brush and use my wet/dry shopvac to suck the suds and dirt out of the fabric.
no more progress pics just yet - I'm about to start on the heavy duty vinyl panels for the bottom and back (non seating areas) and i'll have the first seat done (all panels cut out for both seats as i went along to save trouble later)
then i'll post a finished product.. can't wait
edit - any ideas how to go about putting sound perferations in the headrest vinyl for the seat speakers?

You can order a new sunroof seal from GMPartsDirect.com
I paid like $37 or so for mine plus shipping (don't quote me.. but it WAS less than $100 all total)
The only thing you have to make sure of is that your gasket rails are still good...
If they aren't though. You can always replace those as well. They are held in by a set of pop rivets.. 4 on the front and back and 3 on the sides (pretty sure that's right)..
Just cut the pop rivets out and pop rivet in new pieces.. lay your new gasket down.. and have a blast
The conversion of a hard top to a sun roof is VERY easy.. loosen up the fenders, remove the wipers, headliner, etc, etc unbolt the top.. and use a painters 5 in 1 tool to cut the seal from around the windshield.
I bought the sun roof section off of Chesters parts GT to put on the our '86 SE.. as soon as I get new gasket channels for the sunroof, that's going on

already when through the fixing of the sunroof seal the channels were rusted to hell but the seal itself was fine- some drilling wire wheeling painting rtving and popriveting later they seal like champs

just for a sence of scale the glasspack mufflers are 12" cans with 3" tips on each end - the cat is a 9" can with 2" tips in each end. thats a stage-2 kevlar spec clutch, walbro fuel pump prothane front poly kit and aluminum ultimate dogbone(to be modified)
my concrete should be getting poured this week.. actual vehicle assembly should begin soon
OK well since the 84 was the loser and is going to be a parts car as well as base for making cutom body panels - today i brought home the winner that willg et the 3.4TDC transplant ASAP
its in great shape all excpe tfor the usual drivers seat tears, the righ headlight doesn't work, and the engine doesn't start (who cares its getting a 3.4)

So we finally get to see the 86? Too bad about the 84, I like 84's.
Did you ever get around to making those paper templates? I'd like to get some for some... experiments...
Can't wait to see the engine swap progress!
no templates yet - been so busy haven't made my second seat either.. i'm contemplating starting over with all black - using vinyl for the back and ballistic nylon for the seating surface (think expensive soft luggage)
and don't worry - I am currently thinking of using my 84 decklid and making this 86 look similar to an indy - but not quite..
took me a while to figure out just how to get the car as high in the air safely as possible without rolling off the jack stands and such - but I finally did -
and pulled the gas tank
removed the old pump that was non-functioning to install my new walbro pump - this is the first time i've seen a little black plastic box with a metal lid inline with the pump - I assume this is a damper to reduce the noise from the pump.
at the same time I painted my 85 cadillac calipers and did a little checking of the fit of the stock brake hoses
here is the rear with its bracket attached - the unloaded caliper came with everything i need except the brake pads with are only 11$ a set.
here is the front as you can see the connection is at the top unlike thw camaro caliper (but uses same pads) the catch is that it is surrounded by a raised ring (that could be ground off) , however a quick check of the stock brake hose shows the end fitting to JUST fit within the ring - worst case i would need to file the leading corners off the hose fitting.
the rotors should arrive monday (they were shipped from a different warehouse)
next I slapped one on the rear and noticed some interfierence
(these are gonna look real nic behind my rims)
closer view of the interfierence
I couldn't find anywhere in the zettner write up about grinding this off - but since the old rotors edge was just inside it, it makes sence to remove it.
I also played around witht he cadillac rear caliper and looks like rotating it down about 10 degrees shoudl help align the e-brake cables perfectly
[This message has been edited by Kohburn (edited 02-28-2005).]
well I got one of the guys in my shop to through together a test adaptor bracket out of aluminum for me - I modified zetners design to rotate the cadillac caliper down 10* to allow the stock ebrake cable to clear the CV boot and attach to the cadillacs stock ebrake bracket..
attached to the caliper
losely mounted to the knuckle
I can't test fit the rotor yet since I haven't ground down the peice from my previous post
