Well little over 2 weeks ago a lady emailed me. Said she had a Fiero she wanted to sell. She wanted to buy a new mini. I guess the dealer did not offer much for it. She left me a number to call. All she said was that it was an 88 Fiero with a V6. After talking to her on the phone I came to the conclusion that this was a Yellow 88GT 5spd car. She was 2nd owner and had all the receipts and invoices since it was new. Only has 95,000 miles on it. (151,000kms.) She really did not know what she wanted for it. (reading between the lines, I think the dealership gave her a line of crap saying the car was junk or something) She actually asked what it would be worth for parts. I jokingly said ah $500. We talked for a bit and I said that if she had a number in mind to let me know and I would come take a look at it. She emailed me a week later and said if I could give her $1000 cdn ($900 USD) for it. I could have it. I told her I would like to come take a look at it.

Well Lisa and I went over today.

She showed me the invoices, she spent over $5000 in repairs just last year alone. It had a new engine installed at 90,000kms. The paint is faded and chipped a bit in the front corner but the rest of the car is really nice.

The interior needs a really really good cleaning. She had 2 dogs that went everywhere with her, so the interior has that funny smell and is just plain dirty.

The goods though. The AC was recently converted and charged. Blows nice and cool. The Premium Sound is cool. The exhaust has no leaks, suspension is smooth with no creaks. It has the Air Adjust seats, but does not seem to work. John said it is probable just un-hooked.

It came with Michelin Pilots on all 4 corners in like new shape, with a 5th new Pilot as a spare. Also 4 winter tires on rims that are in 90% of new condition. Box of new OEM lug nuts.

Needless to say, its in my driveway now. I am absolutely ecstatic over it.

So uhm. Here are the pics.

Doesn't it always happen, just when you post pics, someone knocks the cat 5 cable from the switch and the server goes offline. Well she is fixed now.

Ugh. LOL. Time to go and play with the car.

P.S. Patrick if you are on the club list. We are setting up a mini run into Fort Langley tonight to get Gelato. (sp) Italian ice cream, I think. Well drop me a PM if you want to come.

David, although I have three Fieros, none of them run. Yes, this has been dragging on for longer than I care to admit.

I’ve never been to a club function, but I’m going to have to check the club out (but I can’t do it tonight). This might be the only way that I’ll be sufficiently inspired to get at least one of these cars street worthy.

In the meantime, am I allowed to show up at future club functions driving a ‘94 Hyundai Elantra?

By the way, I can see the pictures now. Very nice, such a deal!

If we told people they were not allowed to come to meetings when there Fiero's were broken I don't think we would even be able to hold meetings. LOL. These are 20 year old cars. The only rule is none Fiero's are not allowed to park with the Fiero's. (we have a spot for fiero's to park at the meetings so we can get the photos each month, last month 21 or 22 Fieros were at the meeting) It was a site to be seen.

I am really suppose to be outside fiddling with the new car. However the invite is still open to anyone Fiero driver or not. Ice Cream on a day like today is almost a requirement.

Wow, that is a great-looking car. Congratulations!

Best part is, she wanted to get rid of it, you probably gave her a much better price than the dealership, you get the car you always wanted, and the GT gets adopted into a loving new home! Take good care of her!

I too have a Canadian 88gt. Here are some interesting production numbers for you:

Of the 423 88gt's that were exported to Canada in 1988, only 20 (twenty) came in yellow.....

Of the 423 88gt's that were exported to Canada in 1988, 114 had lumbar. For some reason, alot of Canadian 88gts got lumbar, a much higher percentage than US gt's (mine has it too)

Of the 423 88gt's that were exported to Canada in 1988, 327 had the black wheels.

Of the 423 88gt's that were exported to Canada in 1988, 259 had the 5-speed

Of the 423 88gt's that were exported to Canada in 1988, 269 came with AC (mine did not)

Well I just got home with it after an evening of cruising. I can't believe the difference in an 88 over a pre 88 for driving. It feels like a cream puff, but handles extremely well.

My 85 which was my daily driver until yesterday is dropped 2" on ST lowering springs, poly cradle and control arm bushings and frankly rides like a buck board tractor. It handles really well for an 84-87 Car. But this 88 is just so much different it is like.... uhm. Neat is the best word I can come up with.

Lisa and I did some cleaning on the car, it needs a lot more TLC than the pics show. She cleaned the inside of the car with Spray 9 cleaner, and I did some cleaning around the engine and topping up fluids, the Trans was more than a liter low on fluid (1.1 quart) The K&N filter did not look like it had been cleaned in 5+ years. Watts actually cleaned it for me and he could not believe it either. The car is going to make one heck of a daily driver.

Now the questions should I change anything. This car is an almost 100% stock un changed factory 88GT. The no sunroof is a bit frustrating, and the stock stereo albeit not bad with the factory sub and amp is still lacking in the sound quality.

I know if I am careful and use a kit, I can change the head unit, but I guess that leaves the amp out of the question. As for the roof, I know it is possible to change, but how hard will it be to change back if I ever want to go back. I would love to yank out the 2.8 and install something else, but I don't think I can bring myself to go that far. I don't think there is an engine swap out there aside from a 3.4 that would leave it OEM looking enough for me.

Oh Head Liner I am going to lose my mind. It is drooping and just touching the top of my head so I constantly feel like something is in my hair. I was going nuts. Is there any simple way of making it stay up. I was thinking pin hole then spray some aerosol glue in there.

Why ? Every 88 canadian car should have a dual km and mph markings. My 87 does. It's only my 85 that's metric only.

I all ready hear his 85 V-8 crying. LMAO

By the way David did mentioned that the lady shuttled her dog with her in the car but he did not mention that it was actually two Large dogs that she would have in the car with her. Like the size of a Lab or Shepard she said one would sit on the floor board and the other sat on the chair. The interior was less to be desired for but after i got in there with Spray-9 it looks almost brand new this stuff really works well and gets the grease and grime right off. Let it site for a few min then wipe off, for the really bad spot repeat a second time.

Yep gonna give the trans a good flush and put in synchomesh and see how it goes.

For those of you in the "don't know" he is referring to it grinding going into reverse about 1/2 of the time. Like I said it needs tweaks.

I believe that would be a major undertaking, and as you said there are no creaks or noises and doing this may upset that and start making some noises.

Take it out and have it recovered for under $50.00 , well mine was only $35 here in U.S. not sure what it is there??

Did you get the Lumbar fixed?? If it needs bladders I think someone has them maybe it was KickHill??

These are just my opinions.
I just sold my 86GT ,the thing that helped me was that it was stock in appearance. Only thing I had to do for the new owners was remove the Lowering Spriings on all 4-corners and put the stock back in. They were an older couple and she had been looking for a Fiero for over a year. If I had modded mine I probably would've had to wait alot longer to sell it as many kids don't have $5K to spend.

Thanks for all the tips. WOW, that was one heck of a read. I am not sure if I am worthy of any crown but thanks.

I am not sure if it will see much More winter driving. Might use the 85 for that.

The engine is a stock 2.8 I am use to driving fiero's with over 200hp. I would change it just for more pep.

I did not know it was that cheap to get a headliner redone. Maybe that will be my first tweak.

Torch Red you stole my car, BRB

Nope its still there, dang that is the twin to this beast. Nice looker.

Patrick the Gelato, uhm was Closed due to cooler failure. It all melted and they were closed. Coolers overloaded due to the current heat being so much.

To all the people saying they are envious it is/was just one of those once in a lifetime finds. Took me 13 years to come across another Fiero I liked enough that is in my budget to bring him and nurse it back to health. Not that this one needs much nursing just some good ol TLC.

Well I am off to work, talk to ya all later.

The issues with the car and making the right decision as what do with it is going to be terribly burdensome and may cause you to have debilitating and possibly permanent mental stress from the worry. I would like to help you out and lift this horrible burden from your shoulders.

I suggest that you park the car and leave it as is until late fall or early winter. Before the first snow you should drive it down to Sunny Florida and have yourself an stress relieving and relaxing vaction in the Florida sun. Sit on the Beach, Relax, have a few drinks with little umbrelas in them, and possibly spend a few days visiting some of our many theme parks.

You can bring the troublesome and burdensome car to me and I will double your money and pay you $2000.00 (USD) to help compensate you for all the pain and anguish you suffer and take the accursed car off yoru hands. I will also provide you with 2 plane tickets for you and Lisa to make sure you are transported safely home, all while leaving the stress and frustraton behind you many, mnay, many miles away where it could trouble you no more.

I know I am new to the board but, I have seen many posts by other members helping each other out when in need, I just want to do my part Capt Fiero and make sure that you don't face this alone.

Ziptar is being a good guy in his offer and I won't knock him for his attempt but, a real friend wouldn't let you fret and worry over this car till autumn. OK since we're such good buds. I'll offer you that same money but I'll come up and get it out of your way this coming week. There is absolutely no reason for you to have this trouble sitting in your driveway. I'm sure I can handle the stress much more readily than you with your already overburdened life. Now that's being a friend.

My imagination is the only limiting factor to my Fiero. Well, there is that money issue.

Ron has made a good offer, but we know that his wife will KILL him if he brings another one home! I don't have that problem, so let me take it, and save you from the burden.
