Sorry I've been recident about calling and getting that socket to you. Right now I've got a blown-up back and shot right ankle. (no, it wasnt a crash--it was me being stupid trying to lift 1200 pounds of machenery by myself) Doctor said I could go back to work in 14 days, but docs don't know anything. I'll do it in 5.

Hi All,

My apologies again for the lack or correspondance over the last week or so, had a show to attend on the weekend so was quite busy trying to get prepared for that as well as performing some installations.

We are hoping to get Jay into the shop either today (June 13th) or Thursday. Immediately following that installation we will be provide pics, videos, and answering any questions that anyone might have.

Also these are going to go into production more or less right after the installation on Jay's car and we will then start taking orders. Also for those interested in having us perform the installation I believe we'll be offering a discount on that as well but I'll get back to you on that.

Thanks again,

Chris Wesley

I can't wait.
I'm hoping that after I get my car on the road...that there is enough left in the budget to allow me to get a set of these.

A bump with questions!

1. How much do the hinges weight?
2. What was the price to the U.S. zip-44111?
3. This is a complete bolt on kit, right? Just remove the factory hinges and bolt the kit on.

Thanks,

Don Z.

Hi All,

3.8 SC the hinges weigh between 15 - 20lbs each (I will put the kit on the scales and let you know exactly how much). Shipping to that address will be $45. And yes thats correct, it bolts directly to the factory hinge locations. The only modification coming from trimming the inner lip on the fender to allow adequate horizontal travel.

Thanks,

Chris Wesley

Could you provide additional information / details when you say "The only modification coming from trimming the inner lip on the fender to allow adequate horizontal travel"?

Hi Folks I'll be heading over to Chris's shop on Sunday for the install. The delay was my fault this time, as I have had to use the car for work and couldn't drop it off for any length of time.

I bought a new Chev Malibu on Tuesday which make things a bit easier now. :}

Just an update. I dropped ol' GodFearN of at the X-treem Door shop tonight for the install. I'll get an update from Chris and Kyle tomorrow on how things are going. I saw the new hinges, and again, they are very nice. For those of you who have dropped by their shop and looked in the front window and see an empty room, don't worry. The shop in the back is a whole different story, and is the focus of their work. I saw a Sunfire which is a piece of art.

They were even courteous enough to give me a lift home.

Eagerly awaiting my mini-lambo :}

I was watching that Pimp my Ride on Mtv the other day and they did this door mod on this car where the door slides back to the rear wheel. Kind of like a minivan side door. Did anyone else see this? Also how possible is it to do it with a fiero. I would buy this kit if you can make one. Thank you , Chris

Hi All,

The kit has been installed! We will have videos and pics posted as of tomorrow. The install was done using an extra set of doors that were provided by Jay, and the kit works flawlessly. We will be installing his actual doors this week and his car will be all set. This also means these kits are ready for production and we will begin having them made by the end of this week. Thanks again for everyones patience!

Thanks,

Hi All,

Finally at last some pictures and video for your viewing. Again these were the spare doors supplied by Jay and we will be installing the kit using his actual doors this week. If you have any questions feel free to ask. There will be 2 versions of this kit. Firstly we will have the Standard Vertical Door System (shown in the videos posted today) and we will also have a 90 Degree Vertical Door System (Both Direct Bolt On Applications). The Standard kit will cost $500 plus shipping and the 90 Degree kit will be $600 plus shipping. We will be offering these prices for the first 10-20 orders.

This images is larger than 102400 bytes. Click to view.

This images is larger than 102400 bytes. Click to view.

Showing how far the kit is able to open horizontally (fully adjustable)

The standard kits will be capable of opening to 70 Degrees Vertically, and both the Standard and the 90 Degree system will be able to open 40 Degree Horizontally.

Thanks,

Chris Wesley

To answer the question about the fender and the trimming, you would only need to remove a small amount from the inner lip on the fender to allow for the necessary horizontal and vertical travel. This change will not even be noticeable if done correctly.

As for shipping to that address it would be $45.

Thanks,

Earlier in this thread you said the kit would have an introductory offer of $500 for the first month. So now it's going to be for the first 10-20 orders? What will the price be after those orders have been placed?

That's totally awesome.

One question...is there something wrong with the latch mechanism on that yellow car...or does he just like slamming the crap out of the door?lol.

I would suspect that the added weight of the door with the panels on allows enough momentum to overcome the latch easier and enhence you dont need to slam it as hard. Did that door even have glass?

Since I made my commitment once you provided pictures and video, I'm one of the 10-20, right? How much is shipping to 46060? And how long would it be until you have the 10-20 in stock and ready to ship?

Thanks again, great work!

Greg

P.S. It looks like there is enough room to get in and out without lifting the door. Kind'a stealthy for getting gas and daily driving. Can you post a video of how easy it is for you to get out without lifting the door? I'm guessing it one would use the same manuever as if someone parked to close to you?

Hi All,

Midshipman easy, you can PM and I will send you the information on placing an order.

Sourmug, for our 90 Degree application the door will go higher then that, while that picture is close it is still not quite there.

JimmyS, your right we did state that we would be offering this for the first month after they were ready, once we see how the orders come in and our capacity to get them out we may extend this back to the originally stated month.

Dcfox, the doors we are using on the yellow car are actually spare doors that Jay was nice enough to supply to us for testing purposes, the reason it sounds louder then normal when closing the door is their are a few loose things on the door, and once the panels are on it won't be nearly as loud as that.

FieroGTguy, you are definitely on the list for one of the 10-20 sets. We should be able to get 10 of these kits done a week, so we are hoping to have the first 10 orders ready to ship at the end of the following week, or the beginning of the next. Also there is more then enough room to enter or exit the car without problems when the door is in the down position. I will get some pictures and video today to show the amount of room and ease of getting in and out.

Thanks again,

Chris Wesley

Hey Chris,
One thing I noticed was, when you put the door in the full upright position, and then get into the car. The door moves down about 2" after you sit down. Is the gas strut not "heavy duty" enough for that door? Also, how is the weight of the door when opening from the inside?? It looks like you can't take your hand off of the door half way up, otherwise the door will fall down. Is this correct??
