I recommend taking 275 north to 696 east to M-10 Lodge south to M-24 Telegraph north to Franklin Rd north to Square Lake Rd east to Opdyke Rd north.
Congestion on 275 around I-96/M-14 - left lane ends and two right lanes merge. Be cautious.
M-10 exit is the two right lanes (this merges into 3 lanes from the left). The far right lane exits to southbound Telegraph only. The right lane becomes the exit for northbound Telegraph. It's easier than it sounds but pay attention to the signs.
Telegraph is a busy 3-4 (each way) lane road. The right lane comes and goes around the mile roads. Go the speed limit even though the locals don't. You'll be on it for about 7 miles.
Hickory Ridge Rd is the last big street with a traffic light before Franklin. It's good to be in the right lane by here. People will be trying to get over to turn right so watch for that. There's 2 lanes turning right onto Franklin and onto Square Lake Rd. You'll only be on Franklin a block. Make a quick right again.
I can't remember if Square Lake stays 4 lanes or reduces to 3. In any case, you need to be in the right lane to exit. You'll take the Square Lake Rd / Opdyke Rd exit which is just past Opdyke Rd. You can see the hotel on your left. Take the exit and make a right. Drive to the end and make a right. Go left at the light and into the hotel.
If you really want to go downtown Detroit, I recommend 75 to Southfield (M-39) north to 94 east.
Didn't plan it but whoot page 2!

Well, That's inconvenient as hell. OK, I'll try to remember to bring this along. Thanks. Dave, you're in charge of navigation through Detroit.

Are there any New England Fieros going? I am thinking about going if I do and no one is coming down from New England I will just leave a little earlier so I can meet up with people on the way there.

Now that I have been navigating around this for a bit, and I live south of Detroit, here are my 2 recommendations to bypassing the shut down in downtown Detroit.
1.) coming up I-75 from the south to Telegraph road (exit 35). Take Telegraph Road to I-94 (East). Take I-94 to I-75 (North)
If you prefer to stay on all Freeways
2.) Coming up I-75 from the south, exit at I-275 North (Exit 20). Follow I-275 to I-94 East. Follow I-94 to I-75 North.
We'll keep you posted if any other construction comes up on the alternate routes.

here is a map for those of you that like visual aids.
We will be leaving about 10ish on tuesday the 22nd, in time for the Houstonians or whoever to meet in the dfw area. It's about an 8 hour drive to our half way spot where we will spend the night and have rolls thrown at our face at the best restaurant in the world.
So is this the preferred method for us Texans? I will be in Japan until the 9th and if this is how most of us are getting there, then I'm all in!
I will be leaving from Lexington KY and heading to my home state and city. I grew up on West Beverly, right across from the Fiero loading docks where they loaded them on transports.

I do not know what day you are leaving, but I will be leaving Wed morning from Stanford, KY and hopefully hooking up with some more Bluegrass Fieros as we head north.
Any New Jersey/Eastern PA Fiero people heading out Tuesday the 22nd?I wil be heading out a day early for the track day on Thursday.I'll have My IMSA race car in the trailer (if I get it done in time!) most likely either going rt80 or PA turnpike(rt76).

Whoever is going from the Oklahoma/Kansas area, I wouldn't mind meeting up with you somewhere. I went with my parents for the 20th in '03, but I don't think they're going this time.

For all Quebec, Ontario, upstate New York Fieros who will be using Hwy 401 / 402
Would it be possible to meet in London, Wednesday afternoon, and create a convoy of Fieros for the last 200km via the Sarnia/Port Huron border crossing? If there is interest, we could then decide on a place and exact time.
Only days away....

Those coming from the west I recommend I-94 to I-96 to I-696. From there you have a couple choices: 1. M-10 to Telegraph North to Square Lake Rd to Opdyke/E Square Lake Rd to Opdyke Rd (really just 3 easy, quick right turns) the hotel. 2. I-75 N to Square Lake Rd (left side exit) to Opdyke Rd. Go straight off the exit ramp to the hotel. #2 is ok but if you catch it at rush hour be prepared for a long impatient (from others) ride. 696/75 is a major backup area and 75 N will be the same for several miles.

Following up on Gokart's post of the I-75 shutdown, for those coming up from Florida, the I-75/85 Connector through downtown Atlanta is also reduced to 2 lanes for about 2 years. It would be advisable to take the I-285 bypass to the west side of Atlanta. Probably marked as either Montgomery, Birmingham, or Chattanooga. Follow it around to the I-75 North, Chattanooga exit.
If you pass through during the night, you may be alright coming right through downtown, but I wouldn't do it in the daytime, even when it's not under repair.

Anyone coming thru Indiana might want to avoid the west side of the 465 loop, as its also under construction.
I think I'm heading out Thursday morning myself, hoping not to be a casualty on the way and getting stuck with mechanical problems. ( first real trip with the car I'm taking since the engine swap last year ) If you see a blue GT on the side of the road, wave, its me
IF you are traveling through St. Louis, you need to avoid I-64 between I-270 and I-170. The road is under construction and CLOSED. They are tearing it up so there is actually no road there.
Here is a real time link for getting through. IF you are coming I-44, I-70, or I-55 to the show, it should not affect you. I-64 EAST of the Mississippi river is FINE.
I will be traveling along this route at approximately these times on WEDNESDAY July 23rd. I will be driving a 91 full size Bronco with a gray 20 ft box behind it. I will also have a Fiero with me (Blakeinspace). We will be leaving at about 8:00 am (earlier if I can manage it with the 2 kids) The plan is to be in these locations at approximtely these times. Unfortuntely I have to drive 55 mph due to the power of the truck and the gas mileage. I'm trying to not kill the thing! If you are okay with driving that speed we could have one heck of a convoy!
Also, bring your 2 way hand held radios (the 2 to 5 mile range ones you can pick up for $25 at WalMart). We always have a great time with those!
User00013170 - I have a rolling work shop with pretty much all the hand tools you can think of if you are concerned about break down. We will be in Indy around noon for lunch?
Blackrams - We will hit Dayton about 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Would you three like to hook up. I have been told I am good for drafting.

We'll see how things work out, would love to have a convoy of Fieros headed north. Timing will be critical. We're scheduled to leave the Lexington, KY area at noon on Wednesday. If you're traveling with a cell phone, PM me your #. As we get closer to Dayton, we'll give you a shout. I carry one of those 40 channel CB in the truck but it really just for emergencies. I hate listening to all the BS that seems to be on them. Same with anyone else traveiling on Wednesday. If you see a white Dodge pulling a white gooseneck with two cars, one a Blue Fiero and the other a Yellow Pantero, that's us and we're probably lost.
Edited to add: The last thing you want to see is my truck and trailer in your rear view mirror close enough to draft. [QUOTE]
trailer easily handles two Fieros. a tag-along dolly (not shown, but look at the real estate).

My planned route. I'm leaving 7/21 and spending the night in Columbia, SC.. It should be a nice drive through the Smokey Mountains day two, stopping in London, KY for another night. From there it is about a seven hour jaunt to Pontiac Wednesday, arriving in the afternoon sometime. I decided I didn't want too many 12 hour drives on the way up to Pontiac. I'm taking it easy.. I'm checking www.gasbuddy.com for cheaper gas prices along thhe route.

Slight right to merge onto I-94 E toward Detroit 5.7 mi 4. Take exit 204 to merge onto M-39 N/Southfield Fwy 14.7 mi 5. Take the exit on the left onto John C Lodge Fwy/M-10 N toward I-696 W/Lansing 3.9 mi 6. Take exit 18A to merge onto Telegraph Rd/US-24 N 7.9 mi 7. Turn right at Franklin Rd 456 ft 8. Turn right at W Square Lake Rd 1.8 mi 9. Continue on I-75-BL E 0.4 mi 10. Take the Square Lake Rd E exit toward Opdyke Rd 0.3 mi 11. Turn right at E Square Lake Rd 0.3 mi 12. Turn right at S Opdyke Rd 0.2 mi 13. Turn left at Centerpoint Pkwy 0.2 mi
