Fiero 25th Anniversary Track Day at Waterford Hills Raceway - July 24, 2008
This will be an all-Fiero day on the track, where you can drive your car at speed on a real race track. Instructors will be available to teach those who have never had their car on a race track before, or who want to learn more about handling a Fiero at race speeds safely. If you've been to events like this, you know how much fun you can expect to have - and the track will be all Fieros. For those who haven't done an event like this, you're in for a treat.
Registration is open. Go to the Track Day page Michigan club's web site for all the information and forms.
You can download and print the sign up forms and information. Registration will be available via Paypal for $155, or at the track for $150.
You can Paypal your track registration to: goldengatefierospp@pacbell.net

Are race cars allowed, or only street cars? That weekend is not that great for us since we're entered in the SORC Race Aug 7-9 and I have a race to work in Hastings July 26-27. It's also going to cost me at today's gas prices about $900 to get there and back. That makes it an even grand for a track day so I'll have to think about it.

Great! I'll see you there. I remember that rainy day very well... Let's hope that it doesn't happen like that again.
Tell them Michigan boys to get on it. Last time, at the 20th, the weather was perfect - low 70s, low humidity. It made me feel like I was at home in Northern California!

This sounds like a great time. I have been waiting for the info on the track day so that I can decide if I want to go to the 25th Anniversary show. I was there for the 20th and at the track day which was my first time on a track. It was a blast!!! $100 for the day is really cheep. Now I have to figure out how to make a hitch for my car so I can bring the racing rims/tires.

Peoria. Not too far from me. (3 hours). I'll be traveling on Wednesday. I will try to hook up with a convoy but I am not sure if there will be one going through St. Louis. For the 20th there was one and we went up I-55. Maybe if it works out we will be in the same convoy this year.
Blake.... You driving up to St. Louis as one of your stops?
Just a thought.

Today is Mother's Day, so I won't be able to talk to Brian today to get final answers to some of your questions. Here is what I *think* to be true:
Race Cars: Yes, you should be able to run full race cars. The track has a dB limit of 75dB, but they run actual races there, so I doubt it will be an issue.
Ride alongs: Brian and I discussed this. As far as I know, there aren't any insurance problems with this for those who are paid attendees. In fact, we discussed doing ride alongs in the "open session", at the end of the day, when the race guys and instructors will be running. But ride alongs should be OK throughout the day, when the instructors and others are running in the faster groups.
Registering at the track: We are limiting registration to 70 total cars, so theoretically we could "sell out" in advance. I don't think it will be an issue, though. I don't think we'll get more than 70 cars. I don't know of any reason why we can't accept registrations the day of the event.

The registrations are going to by mail to Brian, and I haven't been up there for a couple days. Last I heard, we'd gotten yours. That's it, as of earlier this week.

Can you bring cars other than Fieros: Yes. We'd prefer Fieros, but you are welcome to run anything you'd like.
Can you show up the day of the event, register and run on the track: Yes. Preregistrations are very helpful, but not required.
Ride alongs: evidently, all you have had to do is sign the waiver, and you can go for a ride along with an instructor even if you haven't paid a fee. Brian says he saw that in the rules, so I'll assume it is correct.
Race cars: I got more details on this. In the contract, they require that cars have "an operational, commercially available muffler. No open exhaust". It would seem that the rules for drivers school/open track days like ours have a lower noise limit than their actual races. There is a 75db noise limit, measured at the back fence. So it's difficult to give an answer about how noisy that is to you folks, but that's all I can tell you because that's all I know.

I plan on going, but I don't really know if I want to run it at the track. It really depends on how my car behaves in the miles before it. Is there a rough price on day of's? I would REALLY love to run, I just don't want to break my car, its got a lot of miles before (2000 miles) and after (4000 miles) the 25th.

You do not have to break you car. It all depends on how hard you drive it. I suggest getting in the beginner group and give it a try. Those guys should not be running too fast at least in the beginning of the day.
It is a great experience that you will be talking about for years to come.

exactly. at the 20th - there were plenty of folk who basicly "cruised" the track. just be sure to tuck right at the start of the straight, so people who are blasting can pass ya on the straight. because thats the only allowed passing - on the straights.

My car is loud enough to set off alarms on other cars, it was not an issue at Waterford for track day during the 20th Show, and the same noise limit rules were in place.

Credit goes to the Michigan Club's webmaster. Yes, they did a very nice job.
UPDATE:
There will be a deadline for track signups. We must receive our minimum number by Thursday, July 10. That's two weeks before the event. We need 36 signups, with payment received, in order for the event to go forward. If we fall short, the track day will be *cancelled*. Although you can sign up the day of the event, please don't wait until then if you are sure you will be attending. If we have to cancel for low signup numbers, refunds will be given. So please - sign up as soon as possible so there isn't any danger of having to cancel this event. Be sure to join us for the fun of driving your Fiero FAST on a real race track.

I'm not going to be putting my car on the track, but is this going to be open to spectators as well?
Yes, spectators are welcome. I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure we can do "ridealongs" - where you go for a ride with an instructor - for spectators. I was at Laguna Seca on Saturday, and they do it there.
