The strength of the upper rear strut brackets worries me. Looks too weak or am I missing something? Looks like if you hit a few pot holes the brackets will bend up.

I think there is a lot of potential for a rod built like this. Think if you take a look at the BBF project and used the same drive train in something like this.

Hey rodney this is an area of concern for us also. The top bracket was factory made to tie a hairpin radius rod to a frame it is quite thick and with the bends on each end plus its short liegth should not bend . The verticle piece it is welded to is a 1/2 " thick piece of steel . Time will tell and we will be keeping our eyes on this. Thanks for your concern.

wonder if you could start with one of those little dodge rampages and pull off something like this. that might be neat.

Welcome to the forum!

I know what you mean about the shows. It's not worth it to me to spend megabuck to win a $2 trophy. It's much more fun to do something original and have fun with it. Keep posting, you have a lot of cool ideas.

Ok found some pics that show that bracket shape better went out to garage and looked at it Those pointy ends actually go past the vertical plate and we decided not to bend them down as they looked like wings and looked kinda cool However there is no doubt that if bent down and welded to 1/2 "plate the spring could not push them up, So I think they will get bent down tomorrow and welded next time Im at the welding shop. Thanks for calling this to my attention with out flaming me as so many other boards would do. oh i forgot I cant post pics here will post them on other board and Jake Dragon will do it for me thanks Jake

Luckyfasteddie....love the truck and the originality of it. Its great to see someone do a project by themselves. I'm tired of reading about how guys farm out thier entire project. Good luck and cant wait to see more progress...way cool

Got Ratzilla running and drove it on the street. Its a rocket ship, man what a blast, couldnt get into 3rd gear ,not enough road . Got a question for you Fiero guys ,what does a Fiero weigh and what % is on rear wheels ? With out the benefit of a wind tunnel I have no way of knowing if this thing will go airborne at some point . I fig a good starting point will be to make the weight ratio the same as a Fiero. Speaking of wind tunnels does any body know if a person can gain access to one ? Thanks Ed

2400 - 2900 pounds.
Unless your wheel base is the same as the Fiero I dont know if you can get it the same. But that said if you have a long wheel base wouldnt it even it out better?
Getting air born is going to depend on how much air can get under the car. My 84 gets light in the front end on the highway at 80. The shape of the front end alows more air under the car. My other Fieros have the better front end that alows more air to flow over the top of the car. I dont think you will have that issue if you put a pan under your grill

I told him the same thing but he wanted something that he could pull the motor out and just drop it in. I suggested he look at a NorthStar but he said the 2.8 is pretty quick.

He said he was going to be in Florida in the spring, I sent him a message about the swapmeet in PlantCity.

That truck is great!!!

I've always wondered why noone has have ever come out with a 'retro' styled kit for the Fiero. This is just one example of the possiblities.

I love this. I always wondered about doing other cars with a Fiero rear cradle. This is a great idea, hope we get to see it along the way.

Jake thanks for posting the pics,I wanted to do 2 things with this ride ,1 make it something people would enjoy looking at because it was different , something you could enjoy even if it was not your cup of tea. And 2 keep it as simple as possible to keep the cost down and make it easy to work on. Need some info guys , ins co wants to know the horse power of the stock 2.8 engine, and I would like to know the % of the cars weight that is on the rear wheels. Thanks for the info and comments,LFE

2.8 L V6 engine rated at 140 hp should be in the right ball park. I think that was for the 85 - 86 and was later detuned to 130 hp for the later years.

Hey Jake nice to hear from you. It was that photoshop chop over on the Fiero board tha convinced me to chop it. I visited the office of the head man at the insp lane and knew exactly what he wanted , by bringing him into the loop early on I had him on my side. I needed 6 reflecters and my brake test showed too much brake on the front wheels and not enough on back wheels. I have a proportioning valve and dialed it in , went to nearest auto store bought the reflecters and went right back thru insp and passed. They also changed my title to Kit car/ 39 chevy pu modified. which means no emission test. Glass goes in the cut down windshield frame tomorrow and will be ready to hit the road April 1st. We made the top removabl so I can run it as a roadster I think that will be it as far as body changes go.

Can someone shop some pictures for me? Lucky would like to see what his truck would look like with red or yellow wheels, with and without white walls. I wont have time to do it today. He wants the side view.
Thanks

I vote yellow rims with whitewalls. This is way too cool, when you get it fully operational any chances of some video? Do you know what your truck weighs?

Yes it weighs 2600 lbs almost the same as a real Fiero I think. 40% on front and 60% on back dont know if this matches a Fiero would like to know

If memory serves me correctly, the Fiero is around 43/57% (f/r); so you're in the right ballpark.
